Los Angeles Unified School District

 Los Angeles Unified School District

 California, USA

 Champion since 2023

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is the second largest school district in the US serving nearly 600,000 students in 1438 schools and learning centers. Nearly 90 percent of LAUSD students come from ethnically diverse backgrounds and 80 percent of these students and their families are living at or below the poverty line. LAUSD is the second largest employer in Los Angeles County including teachers, administrators, and staff.

During the pandemic, LAUSD made the decision to move to remote teaching and learning. To stay connected to, provide information and support to its students, families, teachers and staff, LAUSD launched a cloud-based call center using Amazon Connect. The call center provided support for remote teaching and learning, established a COVID-19 hotline, and had experts available through its mental health hotline. These hotlines responded to more than 1,000 calls each day to support the needs of their students, families, teachers, and administrators.
