Why Amazon EC2 X8i Instances?
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) X8i instances, are powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors, available only on AWS, and deliver the highest performance and fastest memory bandwidth among comparable Intel processors in the cloud. X8i instances deliver up to 43% higher performance, 1.5x more memory capacity (up to 6TB), and 3.4x more memory bandwidth compared to previous generation X2i instances. These instances are SAP-certified and are ideal for memory-intensive workloads including in-memory databases such as SAP HANA, traditional large-scale databases, data analytics, and Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

X8i instances offer up to 43% higher performance and up to 50% more memory (6TB) compared to previous generation X2i instances to run more demanding and larger-sized workloads.
X8i instances deliver up to 3.4x more memory bandwidth compared to previous generation X2i instances. X8i instances are SAP-certified. They offer up to 50% higher SAPS performance, up to 47% faster PostgreSQL performance, up to 88% faster Memcached performance, and up to 46% faster AI inference performance compared to prior generation X2i instances.
X8i instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a combination of dedicated hardware and lightweight hypervisor. These instances are based on the latest sixth generation AWS Nitro Cards. X8i instances support Instance Bandwidth Configuration (IBC) feature, offering flexibility in allocating resources between network and Amazon Elastic Block Storage (Amazon EBS) bandwidth.
Features
X8i instances are powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors with a sustained all-core turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz. These custom processors offer the highest compute performance and fastest memory among comparable Intel processors in the cloud. These instances include support for always-on memory encryption.
X8i instances deliver 1.5x more memory (up to 6TB) and up to 3.4x higher memory throughput compared to previous generation X2i instances.
X8i instances support the IBC feature, offering flexibility to allocate resources between network and EBS bandwidth. This allows you to scale network or EBS bandwidth by up to 25%, improving database performance, query processing speeds, and logging efficiency.
