Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs like architecture, design, and digital editing can require significant computing power and high-end graphics cards. While many schools across the US provide students with laptops to provide access to web-based applications, these laptops often don’t have the computing power to support these types of programs. The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (East Central Ohio ESC) addresses this issue for central east Ohio schools by using AWS. With the cloud, East Central Ohio ESC helps school districts save thousands of dollars, and in one case up to a million, providing students and teachers with the computing resources they need to succeed in their classes from anywhere.

AWS joins the White House, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Education, and other leaders in government, industry, and the education community to improve the cybersecurity resilience of K12 education communities. As part of our support, AWS is bolstering our longstanding collaboration with K12 education communities, state departments of education, teaching and learning companies, and EdTechs through key commitments, including $20 million for a K12 Cyber Grant Program available to all K12 school districts and state departments of education.

From July 11-12, 2023, the IMAGINE: Education, State, and Local Leaders conference from AWS gathered public sector leaders from around the world in Sacramento, CA to reimagine the future of state and local government and education. Academic medical centers (AMCs) are under pressure to reduce costs, innovate at scale, and improve operational performance. To do this, they’re turning to the cloud. But developing a request for proposal (RFP) for a data center migration to the cloud can be challenging for organizations who have not used cloud at scale yet. This blog post presents guidance for procurement practices that can be used when an AMC is looking to solicit cloud services for a data center migration separate from the integration services to perform the migration.

AWS announced the availability of Landing Zone Accelerator (LZA) for Education, an industry-specific deployment of the LZA on AWS, designed to further support education customers in designing cloud environments for their compliance needs. The LZA on AWS solution is architected to align with AWS best practices and multiple, global compliance frameworks. The new LZA for Education builds on the LZA to help customers secure their research workloads or workloads containing student data by giving them a set of default configurations that they can use as a starting point and iterate on to define security and compliance posture as code.

At National University (NU), a California-based university serving a high proportion of military and adult learners, the COVID-19 pandemic drove an increase in student requests for support. With nearly 20,000 in-classroom and online students nationwide, offering quality support during the pandemic was challenging. NU worked with ConcernCenter, an AWS Partner, to develop customized and scalable mental wellness support options for their students.

AWS announced the launch of a new program, and the expansion of a second, to increase access to science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) educational programs and resources across Virginia and beyond. These are the most recent AWS community impact efforts that aim to increase access to tech tools and training while reducing barriers to students who are underrepresented and underserved.
