Skillshare is the largest global online learning community for creativity. They offer thousands of inspiring classes for creative and curious people on topics including illustration, design, photography, video, freelancing, and more. Skillshare wanted their members to easily discover relevant content with a seamless discovery process of personalized recommendations. Skillshare decided to test Amazon Personalize from AWS to make these data-fueled recommendations for members with machine learning. This blog post describes their Amazon Personalize solution architecture, their AWS Step Functions process, and the results of their experiment.

The extensive higher education landscape in India poses many challenges, like the rising complexity of administrative and academic activities, increase in student enrollment from a tech-savvy generation, data security issues, and more. The education technology (EdTech) company CollPoll is a full-stack web- and mobile-based campus automation, digital learning, and analytics platform designed to address these challenges with artificial intelligence powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). CollPoll uses the cloud to provide end-to-end automation of key academic and administrative processes to bring digital transformation solutions to educational institutions in India and around the world.

The United Kingdom (UK) government’s 2011 Skills for Life survey estimated that about 49% of UK adults had levels of numeracy—the ability to understand and use math in real-life situations—on par with primary school children. In response, National Numeracy, a nonprofit to help UK adults increase numeracy, was founded in 2012. Leveraging AWS, National Numeracy established a digital-first approach to engage UK communities with educational resources that help improve real-world math skills that can help them better manage their finances, find new job opportunities, assist their children in math, and more.

AWS announced over 85 new services and features at re:Invent 2021, with something to offer for every industry — including K12 education. These new services and features unlock new use cases and lower the barrier to entry for schools looking to adopt cloud technology to better serve their students, parents, and staff. The Delhi Academy of Medical Sciences Pvt Ltd (DAMS) is the leading institute for National Eligibility and Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG) preparation for doctors in India. During the pandemic, DAMS shifted its course delivery to its eMedicoz app, an education technology (EdTech) initiative powered by AWS that has reached more than 500,000 verified doctors and medical student subscribers. To keep students connected with real-time learning, DAMS used AWS to deliver live-streamed and two-way interactive classes for thousands of budding doctors through the eMedicoz app.

Moodle is an open-source learning management system (LMS). Moodle has more than 300 million users worldwide across both academic and enterprise organizations, and is the world’s most widely used learning platform. There are many ways to get started with Moodle on AWS. In this blog post, I focus on how to scale and optimize Moodle once you are already serving students. In this case, you may need to deal with migrating data from an existing platform and making sure the new environment caters to thousands of students, and still be cost-effective — we cover additional considerations in this walkthrough.

The higher education we knew before the pandemic will not be the one that emerges post-pandemic. Leaders must meet this moment by redefining the constructs of higher education. The “Top 10 IT Issues, 2022: The Higher Education We Deserve” report released by EDUCAUSE groups the top 10 priorities into three imperatives: 1) shared vision, shared strategy; 2) student success as institutional success; and 3) sustainable business models.

The Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region is riding a wave of innovation, which relies heavily on a digital workforce equipped to meet the rising demand for cloud computing. Today, AWS announced that we have trained more than two million people across APJ with cloud skills in the past decade. Oregon and Washington are home to the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR)—a union of the Cayuse, Walla Walla, and Umatilla tribes. Their language, Sahaptian is classified as severely endangered by UNESCO. CTUIR was searching for a way to preserve legacy knowledge in a way that can be passed down to future generations and strengthen its community. To do this, CTUIR worked with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and AWS Partner Dan Ryan to build an online dictionary of the Sahaptian language, powered by the cloud.
