Claude for Education now available in AWS Marketplace
Imagine equipping every student with an adaptive study companion, faculty with an AI assistant for creating engaging teaching materials, and staff with an AI collaborator for tracking and analyzing student progress—that’s what Anthropic is offering with Claude for Education. Claude for Education, along with Claude for Enterprise and the Financial Analysis Solution, was made available in AWS Marketplace on July 15, 2025. Claude for Education was highlighted today during Kim Majerus’s keynote at the AWS Imagine: Education, State, and Local Government conference. Universities can now equip their academic community with this education-focused version of Claude while benefiting from the streamlined procurement and billing benefits of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Introducing Claude for Education in AWS Marketplace
Anthropic has built Claude, one of the most capable Large Language Models (LLMs) available today. Through its unique Learning Mode, Claude uses Socratic questioning to guide students toward answers rather than providing direct responses, supporting academic integrity while developing critical thinking skills—a superpower in the fast-paced age of AI.
Built specifically for academic institutions, Claude for Education includes enterprise-grade security with single sign on (SSO) and audit controls, plus native integrations with GitHub, Google Workspace, and Canvas LTI, with Panopto and Wiley integrations coming soon. But Claude for Education isn’t just access to the Claude model— it incorporates Anthropic’s vision for transforming how universities develop and implement AI-enabled approaches across teaching, learning, and administration, ensuring educators and students actively shape AI’s role in education.
This is a critical distinction: Although Anthropic’s Claude models are available through Amazon Bedrock for educational institutions building enterprise-level transformational generative AI solutions to support their mission, Claude for Education is a fully featured software-as-a-service solution, and comes with dedicated partnership from Anthropic to ensure success for higher education institutions. It puts the power of AI directly in the hands of students, faculty, and staff as a personal AI collaborator.
Build vs. buy: Understanding your options
For academic institutions looking to build mission-focused and enterprise-scale AI solutions using Anthropic’s Claude models, Amazon Bedrock provides API access with the flexibility to integrate Anthropic’s Claude into custom solutions. For those seeking a personal assistant for students, faculty, and staff, Claude for Education, available in AWS Marketplace, is the ideal “buy” solution. It’s a complete AI collaboration platform that requires no development work. It includes projects (shown in the following screenshot) for team collaboration and templates such as Learning Mode, native integrations with key LMS systems, enterprise security controls, and a user interface that makes AI accessible to every member of the academic community, not only developers.
Anthropic’s Claude for Education in AWS Marketplace offers several capabilities scaled for academic institutions, including large context windows, enterprise-grade security and compliance, native integrations, and both pre-built and custom integrations through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Large context window for academic scale
Claude for Education features a 200K token context window—enabling comprehensive analysis of complex academic materials in a single conversation. This capability supports sophisticated research tasks and complex academic work across disciplines. For example, a research team can upload multiple academic papers, datasets, and their own notes into a single Claude conversation. Claude maintains full context across all documents, enabling comprehensive analysis and synthesis that would typically require hours of manual work.
Enterprise-grade security and compliance
Security is built into every aspect of Claude for Education to meet the rigorous requirements of academic institutions. The platform provides comprehensive enterprise security features including SSO/SAML authentication and SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) provisioning for automated user management. IT teams maintain complete control over information access through granular role-based permissions, while comprehensive audit logs and custom data retention controls ensure compliance with institutional policies. These security measures enable institutions to provide broad AI access while maintaining appropriate governance and data protection standards, as shown in the following screenshot.
The following screenshot shows the Domain management menu in Global SSO Configuration in the Identity and access window.
Institutions have control over access to sensitive information through role-based permissions for students, faculty, researchers, and staff. Professors can access course-specific information, while administrators have cross-departmental visibility. Compliance officers maintain audit access across all interactions, with automated trails tracking every request involving regulated data.
Native integrations and model context protocol
Claude for Education works within your existing workflows through native integrations with GitHub and Google Workspace, plus extensible connectivity through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The extensive pre-built MCP integrations —including Atlassian (Jira/Confluence), Zapier, Linear, Asana, and more—allow teams to connect Claude to their entire technology stack. Students and educators will be able to connect Wiley and Panopto to Claude using pre-built MCP servers. With these integrations, users can reference lecture transcripts from Panopto and dive deep into their universities’ collections of authoritative, peer-reviewed content on Wiley—all within their Claude conversations. Additionally, Claude now supports Canvas LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability), allowing students to use Claude directly within their Canvas courses without switching between platforms.
Collaborative projects and knowledge sharing
Projects in Claude for Education create collaborative workspaces where students, faculty, and researchers can share knowledge bases, set custom instructions, and work together on complex challenges. As shown in the below screenshot, each project can include relevant documents, establish specific guidelines for how Claude should respond, and maintain shared context across all team interactions.
An academic department can maintain their course materials, assessment guides, and research procedures in a Claude project. Meanwhile, a group of graduate students can use projects to collaborate on a complex research initiative, sharing literature reviews, data analyses, and draft papers within a shared workspace. Claude for Education also comes with pre-built project templates for specific use cases, such as Learning Mode for Socratic reasoning and transforming every interaction into an opportunity for deeper learning.
