AWS independent software vendor (ISV) Partners support the public sector in accelerating the adoption of new services without the investment of developing and maintaining their own applications, accelerating digital transformation and improving citizen outcomes. The AWS Partner team’s goal is to help our partners grow profitable businesses while accelerating digital transformation. There are two clear ways we support ISV Partners to achieve this: helping partners reduce their costs by spending less, and helping them sell more.

AWS announced the 13 global space startups selected to participate in the 2023 AWS Space Accelerator, a technical, business, and mentorship program to help startups advance their space solutions and accelerate their growth using the cloud. These startups are developing inspiring and innovative solutions that address various challenges associated with space sustainability. From 3D-printed space vehicles to orbital robots, satellite solutions built on artificial intelligence (AI), and space-based initiatives that can help us better use Earth’s valuable resources, these emerging startups are leveraging AWS as they develop the next generation of exciting space technology.

The Think Big for Small Business (TBSB) program provides AWS Partners with access to AWS Partner Programs, financial incentives, and additional visibility with customers and AWS teams. Since March 2021, more than 500 partners from 41 countries have participated in the TBSB program, and have launched more than 1,200 opportunities with public sector customers. As investments and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) continue to rise, there is tremendous potential for improved citizen experiences in the public sector. As government, education, and nonprofit organizations seek solutions for their challenges, AWS Partners are at the forefront of helping to solve those problems using AI and ML. Today, AWS announced the 11 participants chosen for the AWS Healthcare Accelerator Australia/New Zealand for Aged Care and Digital Health. The cohort is developing a range of solutions, using the power of the cloud, to improve equitable access to health, social, and aged care services; support aged care and health service providers to deliver higher quality care; and promote new and productive ways of delivering services.

In 2022, the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) initiated a pilot project to analyze traffic patterns and provide analytics within the Philadelphia Navy Yard. PIDC employed Rekor Systems, Inc. (Rekor) to bring this pilot project to fruition. Rekor is a global artificial intelligence (AI) technology company and an AWS Public Sector Partner with a mission to provide insights that build safer, smarter, and more efficient cities worldwide through intelligent infrastructure.

In early 2020, the Norton Police Department’s (NPD) on-premises, legacy system, failed them for the last time. Lifesaving services were down. To revive them, NPD made the decision to go live on AWS Partner SOMA Global’s public safety platform—six months ahead of the scheduled cutover date. Despite the early deployment, the SOMA platform exceeded expectations, making sure critical emergency call-taking and dispatching continued. Using SOMA also helped NPD cut costs and save time. On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida. At the request of standby organizations Help.NGO and Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC), the AWS Disaster Preparedness and Response team assisted with response operations across a variety of functions in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

As I’ve built the UK&I public sector partner team, we have observed less and less customers wanting to solely use their internal resources for their digital transformation. They need guidance, support, services, and solutions from their partners. This creates an immense opportunity for AWS Partners to support public sector customers’ missions while building successful, profitable businesses. How can AWS Partners achieve this multiplier, while helping public sector customers achieve their mission-critical transformation? In my experience working with partners, six key areas of opportunity have emerged that AWS Partners can focus on.

Data collection and safety reporting are top priorities for natural gas companies, and the largest municipally-owned natural gas utility in the United States is no exception. For years, plant operators captured readings on paper forms every hour from various systems, including temperature, pressure, volume, and flow. This gas utility’s management team realized that manual, paper-based daily reporting was both time-consuming and unreliable from a data reporting perspective, and decided to turn to the cloud.
