Learn to transform your health systems at the DC Summit for AWS
In healthcare, electronic health records (EHRs) are essential for clinical decision support, streamlining patient information recording, reducing errors, and enabling consistent patient care. However, cloud solutions extend far beyond just EHR, they can support whole system transformations, preparing your institution and clinicians for the future of care.
This summer (June 10-11, 2025), at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit in Washington, DC we are excited to showcase how healthcare organizations are using the cloud to stay ahead of the curve. Come and learn how they are addressing today’s challenges, and constructing innovative solutions for improved future efficiency.
We invite you to dive deep into how these concepts relate to EHRs. Review our Healthcare attendee guide to see all the additional learning opportunities available. Also, if you haven’t yet, there is still time to register for AWS Summit DC.
Recommended sessions
There are many wonderful, information packed sessions to choose from. We’ve highlighted some that may be of particular interest. Join Dave Levy, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector and Healthcare and Life Sciences North America for the inspirational Keynote that you will not want to miss.
Keynote by Dave Levy (June 10 | 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM)
- Learn about the latest innovations in AWS compute, storage, and generative AI. These are the essential blocks that enable you to transform your organization and meet the mission on the journey from imagination to reality. Leave with a firm understanding of why AWS is the best place to build, and has the broadest and deepest services and features to drive modernization. Hear practical insights from featured customer speakers about accelerating innovation, enhancing security, and unlocking data. Find inspiration to create anything you imagine.
Building Resilient Healthcare Systems (June 11 | 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM)
- Join this chalk talk led by two AWS solution architects to learn key patterns, best practices, and implementation approaches for resilient healthcare architectures on AWS. We’ll demonstrate resilience using the AWS Epic IRE solution as an example. This solution protects critical data and enables fast recovery during cyberattacks, helping healthcare providers maintain reliable care delivery.
Epic journey: Scaling EHR operations on AWS (June 11 | 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM)
- Discover how leading healthcare organizations leverage AWS to optimize costs, create efficiencies, and improve clinician and staff experience with their Epic systems. This session will cover their cloud transformation journey, how these healthcare leaders embrace FinOps practices, and how they drive significant performance and cost improvements through their pioneering EHR migrations on AWS. This EHR focused session will feature a panel discussion that includes speakers from Tufts Medical Center, Beebe Healthcare and Jupiter Medical Center, moderated by two healthcare subject matter experts from AWS.
AWS, and our AWS Partners, are committed to advancing our work to help support EHR workloads and recommend taking a peek at the latest in AWS for Healthcare.
Built for healthcare: AWS is best in KLAS
On February 5, 2025, AWS was announced as the Best in KLAS for Public Cloud by KLAS Research. Best in KLAS is a designation given to healthcare technology and services companies that have been ranked highest by healthcare providers in the annual KLAS Research report. Public Cloud is a new category in the report this year. AWS was named the winner based on ratings from healthcare providers, with a 92.5 score.
AWS is also at the forefront of the generative AI revolution in healthcare with a comprehensive suite of Health AI services. AWS has services designed to automate documentation (AWS HealthScribe, Amazon Transcribe Medical), and enhance clinical problem-solving (Amazon Q). AWS also has services to extract valuable insights from both structured and unstructured medical data (Amazon Comprehend Medical).
New database sizing enables larger healthcare deployments
AWS has introduced numerous innovations for cloud-based healthcare workloads, cementing its place as a proven leader in the IT space. In February this year, AWS, in collaboration with Epic, announced another increase in Epic on AWS customer database sizing, measured in global references per second (GRefs/s).
Recently, in May, Epic announced that number had increased again. Now Epic’s Chronicles Operational Database (ODB) can be sized to 140 million GRefs/s on AWS, representing an 86 percent increase in sizing in one year.
Further EHR resilience with Isolated Recovery Environments on AWS
As healthcare organizations increasingly rely on EHRs for their clinical operations, implementing an isolated recovery environment (IRE) is essential. An IRE serves as the last line of defense against catastrophic events, including ransomware attacks and natural disasters that could compromise your primary EHR environment. An IRE ensures patient data remains secure, accessible, and resilient against both external and internal threats.
The robust infrastructure of AWS, with at least three Availability Zones in every Region, facilitates unparalleled resilience. This prevents losses and can also cut current costs, while protecting patient data and access to care.
Find your next steps for EHR on AWS at Summit DC
Migrating EHRs to AWS represents a strategic move that goes beyond IT optimization by creating a foundation for future innovation and operational excellence. The value of AWS extends far beyond EHR—including hundreds of downstream applications.
With the highest network availability of any cloud provider and more than 166 HIPAA-eligible services, AWS powers access to highly available patient data. AWS helps healthcare organizations to connect, manage, integrate, and report on their data from all kinds of different sources.
