Early Impact: Driving Productivity Gains

Health Hub is already making across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Early adopters are reporting impressive results, with many organizations seeing productivity gains exceeding 20%. Let’s explore how three leading healthcare institutions are transforming patient care using generative AI on AWS.

University Hospital Essen – IKIM:
The Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM) at University Hospital Essen has achieved remarkable results in translating research into practical applications. Their flagship project, CellOnCloud, demonstrates the Hub’s potential for rapid development:

  • Developed an AI-based pathology research tool in just 72 hours
  • Created machine-learning models for automatic cell quantification and classification
  • Transformed cancer research capabilities in digital pathology

“It’s a perfect example of how AI can transform research into real clinical tools quickly.” — Prof. Jens Kleesiek, Director, IKIM

Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center:
Through collaboration with AWS, I-NEXTDATA is revolutionizing oncology workflows using the Health AI Hub, AWS HealthScribe, Amazon HealthLake, and Amazon Bedrock. The AI System promises measurable impact across multiple areas:

  • 50% reduction in documentation time
  • 30% improvement in treatment plan optimization
  • 40% faster guideline review
  • 25% better clinical trial matching

“We’re helping oncologists make faster, better-informed decisions to improve patient outcomes.” — Liat Arad, Chief Transformation Officer

Catalan Health System:
The Catalan Health System is leading a large-scale AI implementation that showcases the Hub’s potential for system-wide transformation:

  • Deploying AXIA, a generative AI virtual assistant
  • Supporting 20,000 healthcare professionals
  • Implementing across 400 primary care centers
  • Building foundation for specialized AI assistants

“This is a large-scale implementation with a focus on delivering practical value.” — Dr. Oscar Solans, Functional Lead for Digital Health – Catalan Ministry of Health

These early successes demonstrate the potential of the Health AI Hub to transform healthcare operations. As adoption grows, we expect to see even broader impacts across the healthcare landscape.
