Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB: Expanding managed open source time series databases for data-driven insights and real-time decision making
Time series data volumes are expanding rapidly to power data-driven insights for real-time decision-making across multiple sectors. In March 2024, we launched Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB version 2.7 for customers who want open source APIs for real-time time series applications. Customers like KreditBee and NinjaOne have responded by choosing our InfluxDB managed service to store their time series data—from infrastructure monitoring and fleet management to Internet of Things (IoT) applications, network security, media and entertainment, and gaming. Since launch, we’ve expanded the service to 19 AWS Regions globally and added significant features, including compute scaling to meet changing workload demands, storage scaling for growing datasets, Multi-AZ read replicas, and 24xlarge instance types for the most demanding workloads.
Here’s how KreditBee described their company’s experience:
As we scaled our application and infrastructure, we needed a fully managed, scalable time series database capable of handling near real-time analytics while supporting a wide array of metrics for detailed monitoring. Timestream for InfluxDB proved to be the ideal solution delivering cost-effective, high-performance monitoring without concerns about cost per metric or data points.

In this post we are announcing the strengthening of the partnership between AWS and InfluxData as Timestream adopts InfluxDB as the main purpose-built time series database.
A strategic partnership for current and future versions
From the beginning, we recognized that this project’s success depended on building a partnership with InfluxData, InfluxDB’s creator. Our focus is to provide long-term commitment and technical collaboration to help AWS customers store and process time series data. This foundation makes it possible to deliver updates and technical enhancements to our customers and is essential for creating a managed service for their popular open source database. We extended the service to allow customers to add licensed enhancements from InfluxData for Multi-AZ read replicas, fully integrated into the AWS Management Console.
Our partnership includes providing long-term support for current (2.7) and upcoming (3.x) versions of InfluxDB in our service. Customers have expressed excitement about InfluxDB 3, InfluxData’s latest generation time series database. This version is designed for high performance and scalability, particularly for real-time analytics and observability use cases requiring high cardinality support (the ability to handle millions of unique data series). We’re collaborating to make InfluxDB 3 available as part of our managed service, helping our customers stay up to date with the latest features, including enhanced security, performance, and developer experience improvements.
Industry leadership perspective
“The future of open source is powered by the public cloud—reaching the broadest community through simple entry points and practical user experience. Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB delivers on that vision,”
said Paul Dix, Co-Founder and CTO of InfluxData.
“Our partnership with AWS turns InfluxDB open source into a force multiplier for time series, from real-time to analytics, making it easier for developers to build and scale their time series workloads on AWS.”
Migration path for existing customers
For existing Amazon Timestream for LiveAnalytics customers impacted by our recent maintenance mode announcement, we recommend Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB, which offers simplified data ingestion and single-digit millisecond query response times for real-time analytics. We’re prioritizing customer needs during this transition by developing migration tools to automate schema conversion, data transfer, and validation processes—minimizing disruption to your operations. You can migrate to InfluxDB 2.7 today, with new versions of InfluxDB becoming available in the future.
Getting started
Ready to experience Timestream for InfluxDB’s benefits? You can provision your first instance today through the console, AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI), or infrastructure as code (IaC) tools.
Creating a new instance is simple:
- Open the Timestream console.
- Select the option to create a new InfluxDB instance.
- Configure your settings.
Within minutes, your new InfluxDB instance will be provisioned and ready, and you can begin ingesting and analyzing time series data immediately.
