Unlocking educational opportunities for all
At AWS, we believe access to education unlocks opportunity and we aim to empower learners from all backgrounds to innovate, create, and thrive in a digital world. Our $100 million AWS Education Equity Initiative expands access for underserved learners globally by providing AWS credits and technical expertise to support socially minded organizations develop innovative digital learning solutions that utilize cloud and AI technologies. Through our AWS AI & ML Scholars program, in collaboration with Udacity, we help students worldwide build foundational AI skills for future technology careers, with 2,500 scholarships awarded in 2024.

Advancing global healthcare through technology
Cloud technology holds the potential to advance health on a global scale. Cloud computing can harness data, integrate cutting-edge technologies, create culturally responsive solutions across populations, and help achieve better health outcomes around the world. Our $60 million AWS Health Equity Initiative supported 400 global health organizations and impacted more than 100 million people. Our AWS Imagine Grants support nonprofits who use advanced cloud services to innovate for positive health outcomes in pediatric research, maternal child total health, and caregiver support.

Find out how AI is being used to address social issues
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are powerful tools that can be used to improve outcomes for underserved communities. Whether it’s analyzing satellite data in disaster-impacted areas, predicting crop yields, or improving healthcare access, organizations are using AWS AI/ML in innovative ways to drive meaningful change.

Strengthening communities when disasters strike
When disaster strikes, AWS supports cloud and AI powered solutions that enhance emergency resilience and recovery, enables rapid disaster mapping using cloud technology for efficient field operations, and rebuilds essential telecommunications infrastructure with technical volunteers. Through the AWS Open Data Program, we help emergency responders make critical decisions faster and strengthen community resilience by facilitating large-scale data sharing and analysis. In 2024, we supported 39 relief efforts across 19 countries and provided nearly $2 million in AWS credits to 41 customers affected by natural disasters worldwide.

Reducing carbon and saving water
At AWS, we are taking action to protect our planet. In 2024, we prevented 110,000 tons of carbon emissions through parts reuse. We built 38 data centers with lower-carbon concrete and 36 with lower-carbon steel. We are making progress on water conservation, giving back 4.3 billion liters to communities. This represents 53% of our 2030 water positive goal. We've announced 23 global water replenishment projects, securing 7 billion liters of annual replenishment for future years. Our data centers are using water more efficiently, and for the second consecutive year, we've matched all our electricity use with renewable energy.
