Query simplified

  • March 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The queries are simple in it. Working isn't that complex on this DB. The best feature of this platform is compatibility with other ETL tools. Its organizational skills are the best. Export required results so that we can see which contacts are performing specific behavior and action combinations. I think the best way to get this working is by creating a subset of the original table. It can be associated with the cloud and operating systems. Its lightweight and can be handled in any volatile Datawarehouse environment. Very resilient Database.
What do you dislike about the product?
Should be more like Teradata. This will enhance the query quality and the work on loading becomes easy. BM is really behind in delivering developer tools. They pride themselves on Data Studio, but it is just frustrating. Google search for it is horrible. Slower than the competition for other tools. Licensing is expensive for the industry. It's not a multi-faceted tool (multiple secondary nodes or cluster without additional software purchases; in some cases third-party tools. This drastically increases your overall capital investment.) It includes a bigger space to be downloaded which can range from single GB to multi GB range. Support for DB change is very hard. The customer service always wants some log files which are hard to get until you are acting as a DB person.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business solutions for marketing analytics. Block-level replication of other databases. Business Intelligence reporting simplified as the data source is the mainframe. Being same parent manufacturing unit it's very simplified. DB administration purposes. I would prefer a simple interface GUI which is more user friendly. Diagnostics applied to serve the purpose of data sharing. Query parallelism helps in solving the problem by looking at the DB parallelly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
IBM DB team should focus on developing new futuristic ways to build customer-friendly tools that have multiple features that are simple to use. They work on having customer support dedicated to the clients. Build a platform that is robust and should be better than any robust tool.

One of the best database servers

  • March 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have mainly used DB2 along with IBM BPM as a product and application database for both non production and production environments. Running commands from Command Line Interface or IBM Data Studio is ease. Great performance with faster query returns. Vary much stable, occasionally goes down. Requires very low maintenance once deployed. Task scheduler is a great advantage. Can stored XML data to reduce development.
What do you dislike about the product?
Administrating is bit difficult. Lack of proper documentation for all administration tasks. Requires costle hardwares and licensing cost is also high. Support from IBM takes lots of time even after raising PMRs.
IBM Data Studio is a heavy software, preferable to use other Database clients like DBVisualizer, Oracle SQL Developer etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Used as a default product database of IBM BPM and used as application database for IBM BPM applications for banking, finance, healthcare clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
DB2 is a good database in terms of transaction based workloads. It integrates well with other IBM softwares like IBM Websphere, IBM Datapower. But overall it's a stable and reliable database server.
