What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hosting of our corporate websites ensuring they are always online
Simplifying DevOps for a small team
What do you like best about the product?
The deploying of changes, and updates with a simple commit. No messing around with making thrid party CI/CD systems work with your host and no additional CI/CD costs.
What do you dislike about the product?
They charge per developer on an account. This makes little sense to me and penalizes smaller teams trying to grow as they have higher cost than large agencies who get unlimited users. It would make more sense to just charge solely for the resources each client needs and nothing to do with my agency and number of devs I won't to have access to the site.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It simplifies all of our DevOps, leaving us to focus on the client's build and not worry about the server. So we don't need a dedicated DevOps persons and I'm freed up to focus on more important tasks.
Very powerful, steep learning curve
What do you like best about the product?
If you need a dev, stage, or prod platform, then Platform.Sh provides a rock-solid Linux environment. It integrates well with a number of build pipelines, and is more flexible than Gumby after a Yoga class.
If command line ops don't scare you, they are a very good choice.
If command line ops don't scare you, they are a very good choice.
What do you dislike about the product?
You don't get direct SSH access (as you would with a self-hosted Linux environment.) Your access point is a layer above, via config files. There IS a bit of a learning curve to this, but it is well worth the time invested. (It is leaps-and-bounds more configurable than competing GUI-Only solutions.) But if you make a mistake, the subsequent mess can be harder to clean-up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dev and staging platform for building commercial Drupal 8 sites for a LEMP stack.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good Drupal support. Read the docs, then talk to a rep, before you buy. (The reps are great!) It can be a complex system to get running, it is not as simple as a drag-and-drop GUI, but substantially more powerful.
Agency and Enterprise Partner
What do you like best about the product?
The deployment model, the ability to have any type of project container that we want (not limited to just WordPress, etc.), and the support from the Platform.sh team.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have had a lot of account rep transition as of late, and communication has definitely suffered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having Platform.sh handle all our hosting and security challenges for websites via PaaS has been a huge time and money saver for us.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Platform.sh is a great tool, but it does have a bit of a learning curve. But with that curve comes great control and abilities!
A game changing experience for non-technical business users
What do you like best about the product?
We are a Swiss company with multiple B2B brands, one of which is a major SaaS ticketing platform. As our brand portfolio is growing, and we want to enable new digital marketing strategies, we contracted a specialised agency to develop our new multi-brand, multi-language, and multi-territory website. This is a complex process, and the agency is frequently releasing new versions of this website that need to be reviewed by various business users. With Platform.sh, this is extremely easy, as they can spin up a new branch of the site in just minutes, while cloning the entire content of the production server, merged with the new code. This is an incredible time-saver, and also means fewer errors. It also means that long term maintenance of the site will be considerably easier for both parties.
What do you dislike about the product?
For the moment we have these very long and complex URLs for every development branch. It would be better to see shorter and easier to understand version numbers straight in the URL.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Faster and more reliable quality assurance. We are able to release more frequent versions of a very complex website, without any conflicts between test, staging and production.
Innovative hosting platform
What do you like best about the product?
- They are constantly trying to innovate with automation processes that make it easier for developers to integrate it within their development cycle.
- The platformsh terminal tool is helpful without the need to open the interface every time.
- Easy to add multiple services (redis/solr etc.) with just the click of a button and also up to date versions
- Debugging on production with xdebug integration or opening a tunnel
- Integration with external partners (New relic, github, bitbucket)

What do you dislike about the product?
- Downtime can sometimes be hard to solve yourself. You are at the mercy of platformsh support. They have a general troubleshooting sheet, but when those don't work you cannot restart the server as an example.
- It can be hard to balance workers to get the best performance for your site. Increasing resources can be more costly than having your own server, so you need to dive a bit deeper into performance (which you could also see as a plus point)
- Missing the ability to set custom domains at branches other than master (and you are stuck with .site with is seen as untrustworthy by a lot services/blacklists)
- You cannot really trust on their snapshot for long term solutions. You cannot substract specific data from it. But also a plus point as it goes really fast to create a snapshot making it ideal for deployment rollbacks.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automating the infrastructure problems we don't want to think about. Server maintenance, integrations etc.
Reliable, affordable devops automation for product companies and agencies
What do you like best about the product?
Removes the need for devops skills while still having access to a broad range of services (at no additional cost per service), highly reliable and great support and pro-active security.
What do you dislike about the product?
Auto-scaling is missing at the moment. For now we just scale on a fixed schedule.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
* no need for a dedicated devops team
* flexibility to quickly implement additional services when needed
* ability to preview changes
* ability to duplicate production to fix issues that require production data

Fast and reliable infrastructure for our projects
What do you like best about the product?
Their tools allow our developers to focus on what matters and don’t worry about infrastructure.
Platform.sh assigned a success manager and technical people to help us in the onboarding process. The migration for our projects from Kubernetes (GKE) to Platform.sh went flawless.
The environments are very stable, backups are being created daily, and their support team answers questions quickly.

What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing really that we dislike. There are some features that we miss, like metrics and external logging with Papertrail.
Platform.sh is listening very well to their customers, so we hope we will see those features in the near future.

What do you like best about the product?
Two of the things about Platform.sh that I enjoy immensely are their ability to (let you) automate processes and their focus on security.
As a SaaS company, we're using Platform.sh to run most of our projects. We're actively using their APIs to automate this process. The APIs are well documented and integrating this into our systems is straightforward.
Platform.sh takes the hassle out of hosting security. Having data at-rest encrypted, read-only file mounts and the necessary compliance (SOC 2 type 2) is a benefit for any organization serious about their security.
Our developers simply enjoy using Platform.sh.

What do you dislike about the product?
It can be hard to determine when you need to upgrade projects to different plans. We've integrated different tools (easy and straightworward1) to help monitor usage and detect issues, having some of that out of the box would've been better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're deploying new (demo) sites on a daily basis. By now we've probably had well over a thousand sites running on Platform.sh. Having the ability to automate our processes using their APIs has been a tremendous benefit to our business.
In the end, a lot of decisions boil down to money. With Platform.sh you no longer have to think about upgrading your server to a new PHP version, it's just a one-line change. Deploying a new feature and having your marketing team checking it out is a 5 minutes task.
Platform.sh costs money, but you'll also save a lot of it if you think about the time your engineering team can spend on business-critical features.
