Developer-centric platform and tools, very flexible and powerful

  • May 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The developer-oriented experience is fantastic, fast and productive. In comparison to, say, other platforms such as AWS/GCP/Acquia where the complex interfaces can be slow and cumbersome to work with.

The wide range of supported technologies and efficient support have also been a strong asset to have and the technical documentation is brilliant.

The killer-feature, in my view, is the byte-for-byte level replication of an entire stack between environments plus the seamless integration with tools like GitHub. It's an enormous time-saver.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the more complex aspects of application onboarding weren't straightforward to resolve but there was ample support from the platform team.

There were a few inconsistencies around things such as SSH key negotiation in the team but they seem to have been resolved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The key problem was to replace an infrastructure that was poorly supported, managed and maintained. By removing more infrastructure and devops tasks from the small technical team they are now able to deal with a much more relevant and interesting set of organisational issues. The faster, more productive team means that the entire branch operates more efficiently.

The key benefits/returns so far have been: time, reduced stress, stability, predictability and the safety net of a responsive, skilled infrastructure team.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a technical team supporting your projects, I'd highly recommend Platform for simplicity over things such as AWS or Cloudfoundry. If you have a team of primarily non-technical users then other vendors may work better... eg: Acquia Cloud Site Factory.

Solid service, been using them for over 4 years now

  • May 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This is a great platform for developers to setup complicated builds. Unlike any of their competitors I have used, their build processes are part of the system itself. The allow complex multi-app setups that use a variety of different base languages as well. This is crucial in today's sophisticated website /app architectural universe.
What do you dislike about the product?
None anymore, their support used to be kind of meh. It has come a long way and I have no complaints currently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Complex website architectures, multi app decoupled setups, enterprise level client setups.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need a composer/node/complex build setup that is easy and quick to use, then go with platform.sh

Up and running with a few choices and minimal configuration

  • May 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a web agency most of our hosting needs are actually not super complex. However we need access to various different services. With platform.sh essentially all that needs to be decided is the size (which can be scaled up and down later too) and then with minimal configuration you are up and running. No extensive wizards to configure different services and containers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Central management of all of our services is currently not possible but should become available some time this year. For more complex needs (like dynamic scaling or managing a cluster), platform.sh doesn't provide much out of the box. Then again at that point it might make sense to explore other options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Shorter setup times and faster onboarding.

A very flexible platform for the complexities of enterprise web development

  • May 11, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We were looking for a platform that gave us the flexibility to mix different technologies to create modern decoupled websites, using React and Drupal 8. We have a refined CI practice in our company and the services we use need to comply with our standards in such practice.

Platform.sh provides that with an added bonus of being more affordable than the competition and more flexible in building plans. It has a lot of documentation and it speaks the language of developers and administrators.

For agencies, it has a lot of documentation you can use in pitches to answer to commonly asked questions from clients.
What do you dislike about the product?
Admin interface can be somewhat confusing for partners (one account for partner administration and one for site administration). Other than that, nothing so far!
Administration of sites is mostly done via terminal, which can drive some clients off.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Single platform for different technologies (JS, Drupal, Symfony) and its extensions (Apache Solr for example).
Flexible economic plans for both small and large complex sites.
A modern enterprise software development support.

A Infra team that work with you

  • May 11, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The platform is optimise for Symfony and the team is there to help me via different channel when I need to. I don't have any IT developer on my side so it's a relief to use there service.
What do you dislike about the product?
Optimisation come to a price, so when you have really specific needs/customisation they might not be the place for you but 95% of the time they are.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When I am working a really big project ( >100k users active per month) I need a dedicated team and infrastructure.
But for any other project where have a internal team is too expensive or not needed, they solve my problem.
I am a good developer but really bad at infra stuff. Their solution is perfect for me.

Awesome platform

  • May 11, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use, letting go of having to do any heavy dev-ops was a big plus for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Syslog support is non-existent.

Open arbitrary ports to the world no possible. Probably better suited for web apps.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Freed up engineering hours that would've been spent on dev ops tasks, that can now be spent on application development, so effort can be spent on delivering MVPs and learning/value creation.
