Sophos Central Review

  • June 06, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of installation is notable. Once you have access to the central dashboard, you just need to download the appropriate .exe file for your operating system and install it on the server with just a few clicks. The rest is handled automatically by the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, it does not uninstall properly. In such cases, we need to start the Windows server in Safe Mode and make certain changes to the Sophos service. However, customers often hesitate to proceed with this step, as it requires significant downtime
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For me and my environment, it solves a key problem: a developer or IT personnel managing the client’s server cannot uninstall the software without informing us, as uninstalling or disabling the product requires a tamper protection password. I also appreciate the Sophos Lockdown feature—once enabled, only whitelisted programs can run or open, and no other software can be installed on the server without prior approval from us.

Customization and AI features streamline team efficiency and save time

  • May 12, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I am using Sophos Central, which I was calling to clarify for our platform, PeerSpot.

What is most valuable?

For Sophos Central, basically everything we need is all in one place.

Regarding the features of this tool, I find it very good for small teams because you can customize it. The dashboard can be customized to however you want to view things.

The threat prevention is quite useful, with the AI feature they added onto it being really good.

The AI features in Sophos Central help you with investigating any issues, as you can get it to look at the logs for you, and it gives you good feedback on a summary of what it actually has found.

The synchronization technology benefits our security operations, and hopefully we are still up and running after today as well.

It saves us a lot of time, in the sense that we just need one screen to look at. Because it is customized, it shows us what we want to see.

What needs improvement?

As a user, I suggest improving Sophos Central by addressing some error messages we occasionally encounter that we just do not know what they relate to, even when it says it has resolved them.

To improve this, I recommend having more transparency on auto fix, the things that it fixes itself or resolves itself, just to know what it was resolving.

There should be more transparency on auto fix, such as messaging or alerts when it fixes itself or if it breaks itself.

Sometimes it is not very clear because it is working in the background. That is better if the AI is supposed to, but it says, 'We have resolved this.' I wonder what the actual problem was.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for nearly six years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

It is easy to scale for a larger number of users because we have purchased licenses regularly to expand when we expand.

There are no problems with scalability at all because as we get more people, we just add another item or Sophos appliances, and then we are good to go.

We only faced a couple of minor issues during the last upgrade when we went from 18 to 20, but those got sorted out because of configuration, or how things are done differently. Nothing major.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability as pretty stable.

I would rate it a 10 because it is very rarely down.

The biggest benefit of Sophos Central for me is that it works.

Regarding reliability, you do not know until you have a problem, but we have not had anything major or any problems at the moment, so hopefully that will continue.

I would give a rating of nine out of ten for Sophos Central.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to scale for a larger number of users because we have purchased licenses regularly to expand when we expand.

There are no problems with scalability at all because as we get more people, we just add another item or Sophos appliances, and then we are good to go.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted Sophos support for any issues regarding Sophos Central, as we usually get notifications when Sophos Central is going to go down, so we know when it is not available.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before working with Sophos Central, we were on WatchGuard.

I have seen advantages with Sophos Central compared with WatchGuard, as it made a big difference.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was not easy to set up Sophos Central for us personally because we had a third party who worked with Sophos quite a lot, so they set it up. We just maintain and use it.

What about the implementation team?

During deployment, I was with the engineers when they were installing it.

What was our ROI?

The biggest benefit of Sophos Central for me is that it works.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As we get more people, we just add another item or Sophos appliances, and then we are good to go.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I find that Sophos Central is comparable with other systems.

What other advice do I have?

Sophos Central gains efficiency because everything is all in one screen that we need to observe.

It is easier to customize Sophos Central to our needs, so it shows us what we need to know when we need it.

I recommend Sophos Central to anybody who is trying to manage anything with diverse security.

The biggest benefit of Sophos Central for me is that it works.

I rate Sophos Central nine out of ten.

Technical support improves responsiveness and email detection sees significant updates

  • April 17, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use Sophos Central for endpoints on Android and iOS, shared endpoint servers, email servers, phishing campaigns, and mobile device management.

What is most valuable?

Since the last review, Sophos Central has seen significant improvements. The claw back features for email, improved detection systems for phishing and malicious mail, and unique features for compliance assessment have enhanced organizational compliance visibility. Additionally, the anti-virus signatures are regularly updated, ensuring that anti-virus capabilities remain effective.

What needs improvement?

The phishing campaign training could be more engaging with real-life scenarios. Customization of campaign templates would be beneficial. While Sophos Central excels in detecting malicious attachments, Microsoft offers superior capabilities in this area. Enhancements in email detection would be advantageous, particularly for small to medium industries.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Sophos Central for over eight years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The deployment process for Sophos Central is smooth and not complicated. Even without expertise, we have successfully implemented the solution without issues.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of Sophos Central as nine out of ten, acknowledging room for growth.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would also rate the scalability of Sophos Central as nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Sophos Central's technical support is excellent, always available, and responsive. The support team is swift in their responses and very helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

While I have worked with other vendors, I have not explored other options in the past eight years due to my satisfaction with Sophos Central.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Sophos Central is straightforward, involving no complicated steps.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Being a not-for-profit organization, we find Sophos Central's pricing reasonable without specific knowledge of the cost.

What other advice do I have?

Customization, particularly in phishing campaigns and training, would enhance the user experience. Outdated training materials should be updated with real-life scenarios to highlight the impacts of phishing campaigns. For the overall solution, I give Sophos Central a rating of nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Useful for monitoring and anomaly detection

  • August 01, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company as an EPP or an endpoint protection platform and for management purposes.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is that we use it predominantly for monitoring and anomaly detection. The tool also makes some recommendations regarding what action to take for those anomalies.

What needs improvement?

I will also have to check with my operational team to see what enhancements they want to see in the product.

The solution's performance drops at times because it is a SaaS-based tool, making it an area that requires improvement. Some customers have complained about the tool's slowness. When we click on certain menus, it gets really slow, and when my company reached out to Sophos's team, they said that this is normal behavior. Customers have always complained about the product's slowness.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been Sophos Central using for a year and a half.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not faced any stability issues with the product. Sometimes, the product gets slow.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a SaaS-based tool that can scale up quite easily without a problem.

My company deals with SMB-level customers who use the product.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for the solution is good, and they responded pretty quickly since our company has a good relationship with Sophos. At times, whenever we need some urgent support, we can push it to our own local contacts. I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

It is difficult for me to compare Sophos Central with other solutions at the moment because we haven't worked much on other tools.

How was the initial setup?

As Sophos Central is a SaaS-based tool, we don't have to deploy it. We just have to onboard the devices on it and start monitoring it. Get the right link configured, onboard the devices, and then we are good to go.

What was our ROI?

It is difficult for me to speak about the tool's ROI. The tool is cost-effective.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool is competitively priced.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company chose to work with Sophos Central over the other products in the market since my company has a good relationship with Sophos and also because it offers good support. Our team is also well-versed in the tool, so we are comfortable deploying it to our various customers.

What other advice do I have?

In terms of the benefits derived from the use of the product, I would say that we have a good kind of expertise with Sophos Central, so that is why we are comfortable with the tool internally within our organization.

The tool improves security posture overall since Sophos has multiple products, such as a firewall, SASE, and SD-WAN. The tool integrates very well with many products. The solution can serve as one or a single integrated tool for managing multiple products. The tool is mostly integrated with the suite of products offered by Sophos, not with some other solutions.

The tool provides very good visibility of all the endpoints. The product offers anti-ransomware capabilities.

The product has some AI features that help give recommendations to users. The tool has some automation options.

I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

A tool with an easy-to-setup phase that offers endpoint security to users

  • January 31, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company for endpoint security of our servers, especially in our workspaces where we have many devices, like laptops and PCs. Basically, my company's customer uses Sophos Central for endpoint security in their company, where I manage and install the tool to support around 1000 to 2000 laptop pieces in Indonesia.

What is most valuable?

I think that in Indonesia, many companies don't use cloud services because there are problems with the internet connections. Sophos Central is a product that is available on the cloud, so it is safer than the on-premises version. When it comes to the on-premises version of the product, users may have to face a lot of scenarios where they have to deal with damaged computers and server crashes. My company can shift access with the help of a phone or laptop from anywhere or any location with Sophos Central's cloud version, allowing everyone to access the servers centrally, but it is not something that is possible with the on-premises version. For me, the product is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

Sophos Central is not available in small packages in Indonesia. I think Sophos Central needs to be made available in a smaller package because the problem in Indonesia is that there is no good internet connectivity.

I have so much trouble with the tool in Indonesia since the internet connection is bad, so it is difficult to reach the Sophos Central server or get connected to the server. Sophos Central can give better features to help establish a better connection between the server and a client.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Sophos Central for around five years. My company has a partnership with Sophos. I work as a distributor of the product in Indonesia.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In Indonesia, Sophos Central is the first choice that comes to my mind if my customers need an endpoint security product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is deployed on 2000 devices.

I deal with my companies where the employee count ranges from 1000 to 4000

How are customer service and support?

I have experience with the product support team in Indonesia. The solution's technical support was very good and communicative, which were factors that helped me resolve my problems.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was easy.

In one of the cases where I had to take care of around 1000 installations, I initially built a dummy for the on-premises version, after which I collected updates on the on-premises version, post which the PCs and laptops can download or update it from the main server, which is an easy process.

The solution is deployed on a private cloud.

The solution can be deployed in an hour or two. The problem during the deployment phase can only arise due to some internet connectivity issues. If a company has a good internet connection, then the deployment process takes less time.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In my opinion, it is not a very pricey product. The product is not expensive.

What other advice do I have?

The tool has improved our company's ability to monitor network health and security.

I recommend the solution to others who plan to use it because it is one of the best and the point security solutions available on the cloud for me. The product is also easy to use, install, control, and manage.

I have used the product's automated threat response feature. With the help of the automated threat response feature, I can get a report and track malware and services.

I rate the overall tool a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

Comprehensive security management with seamless deployment, efficient maintenance and excellent value for money

  • January 30, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The Central manager oversees multiple client sites, with one of them being located in Colombo. Once accessed, this entry point enables management of both virtual and physical environments across all three sites from a single interface.

How has it helped my organization?

Utilizing Sophos Central for endpoint security management for our customers, we've installed it for a client with three sites. Within this client, there are four companies under the same group. With Sophos Central, we can seamlessly communicate between the separate locations of these companies, such as Company 1, Company 2, and so forth.

Sophos Central has enhanced our client's organization's threat detection and response capabilities significantly. The solution requires minimal resources, with very low data usage, ensuring minimal impact on daily operations. It swiftly identifies advanced threats, with zero data loss during testing, and enables easy deduction of other potential threats.\

The Central interface greatly simplifies the management of our security policies and procedures. It's remarkably straightforward and intuitive, making it easy to understand and navigate quickly. I've personally noticed this simplicity reflected in the ease with which others grasp it. Once guided through the initial steps, users can comfortably navigate and continue managing tasks with little to no difficulty.

I find the biggest advantage of Sophos Central is the absence of physical hardware requirements, which alleviates the headache associated with managing server rooms, PCs, and other hardware. This eliminates any potential issues related to maintenance and upkeep. Additionally, in terms of cost, Sophos Central is competitively priced compared to alternatives like CrowdStrike and SandBlast by Checkpoint.

Sophos Central Reporting and Analytics are highly effective in delivering quick and valuable insights. However, one area that requires improvement is in addressing the increasing frequency of yearly attacks. Apart from that, the signature detection methods and other aspects function seamlessly.

What is most valuable?

There's no need for any upfront hardware costs with Sophos Central. By leveraging cloud-based solutions, we can significantly reduce expenses.

One of the most valuable features of Sophos Central for maintaining our cybersecurity posture is its ease of use. In my experience, managing Central is simple and can be done from anywhere, at any time. This accessibility is crucial for administrators, as it facilitates seamless communication and control.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, there are several areas to focus on. Firstly, addressing market perception issues is crucial. From a technical perspective, one key area for improvement is strengthening its defense against zero-day attacks. Having and option for endpoint security on mobile devices, it would be advantageous.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It provides good stability capabilities.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Regarding technical support in my region, there are two separate entities, one being Indian-based. Unfortunately, the quality of support from the Indian region is lacking, although I have worked with other providers such as Check Point. In comparison, the support provided by Check Point surpasses that of the Indian-based support. Locally, we have two distributors available, but we currently only collaborate with one. While we generally find satisfaction with their services at the local level, there are occasions when issues arise that they cannot resolve on their own, particularly with Sophos Central. During these times, we encounter significant challenges, often experiencing prolonged wait times for responses and resolution. I would rate it four out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used CheckPoint. When comparing Sophos with other solutions, one significant advantage is that they offer similar features for the same price.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

Initially, we begin with a Proof of Concept phase, followed by a one-month trial period using the free license. If the results are satisfactory, we proceed to purchase the EDR solution from the distributor. Once purchased, we simply update the license using the provided link. Deployment time varies depending on the size of the company. For instance, in a company with a thousand users spread across three locations, deployment typically takes less than two hours if there are no issues with endpoint communication and the network has a high bandwidth internet connection. Maintenance is straightforward.

What was our ROI?

Our customers find Sophos Central to offer excellent value for money, and they are highly satisfied with the service it provides.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
