Making iPad Management Simple and Scalable: Our Experience with Jamf School

  • June 04, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf School has completely changed how we manage our iPads across campus. As a K–8 school with a mix of shared and 1:1 iPads, we needed something that could handle deployments, app management, restrictions, and updates—without eating up our entire day.

What I appreciate most about Jamf School is how intuitive it is. The interface is clean, and even our non-technical staff can pick up the basics quickly. Whether it’s pushing apps, configuring Wi-Fi settings, or setting restrictions for younger grades, it’s all point-and-click and doesn’t require scripting or a steep learning curve.

The classroom tools have been a great bonus. Teachers can see what students are doing on their iPads, lock them into a specific app, or send a message—without having to call IT every time there’s an issue. It’s given teachers a sense of control, and it's made classroom iPad use more effective and less distracting.

We also like how Jamf School separates students, staff, and devices into smart groups. This lets us easily apply different rules or apps depending on grade level or user role. The integration with Apple School Manager works well too—we can assign devices and apps quickly, and the syncing is reliable.

Pros:

Very user-friendly interface

Granular control of restrictions and settings

Classroom tools empower teachers

Strong Apple School Manager integration
What do you dislike about the product?
App deployment can be a little slow at times

Limited advanced automation compared to Jamf Pro

Cost can add up with larger device counts

For schools focused on iPads and Apple devices, Jamf School strikes the right balance between powerful features and ease of use. It’s made our tech program more scalable and much easier to support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jamf School solves the problem of managing a large number of iPads across multiple grade levels, teachers, and use cases—without needing a full-time Apple specialist. Before Jamf, setting up devices, installing apps, or making changes meant touching every iPad manually or relying on clunky solutions.

Now, we can handle everything from a central dashboard. Whether it’s deploying new apps, setting restrictions for younger grades, or wiping and reassigning a device, Jamf makes it quick and consistent. It also helps teachers manage classroom iPad use without IT constantly stepping in, which frees up our time and increases instructional quality.

The biggest benefit is time saved and consistency across the board. We’re no longer patching together workarounds—we have a dedicated system that was clearly built with schools in mind.

Used for device management and provides automated device enrollment feature

  • April 02, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Jamf School is used for device management in our educational institution.

What is most valuable?

Jamf School is an MDM (mobile device management) solution. Many features of Jamf School, including automated device enrollment, have helped us manage multiple devices. Security is important in a school, and Jamf School ensures that the teachers' accounts are secure and safe.

What needs improvement?

If you start the system update in Jamf School, you cannot stop it. When we once started the update on 200 iPads and faced an issue with the internet, we couldn't stop the process.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Jamf School for one year.

How are customer service and support?

I wasted time going back and forth with the technical support team to get an answer for an issue I faced with Jamf School.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We started with Jamf Protect for all devices. We switched to Jamf School last year because of the Jamf School app and its features.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Jamf School is an expensive solution.

What other advice do I have?

We're happy to have a strong MDM solution like Jamf School. Not many schools can afford it, and we are lucky to have the solution. Jamf School has helped push applications to the iPad and do all the iPad System updates and app updates. With Jamf School, it's easy for teachers to monitor the iPad within the classroom and manage all the running activities.

The solution's support and training resources have helped resolve user issues and manage daily tasks. It saves time and effort for us. I would recommend Jamf School to other users.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Efficient device management offering seamless stability and scalability, but there is a need for a centralized approach

  • December 26, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It serves as our MDM solution, enabling us to handle administrative tasks such as device management, distribution infrastructure, and software deployment.

What is most valuable?

The overall usage is the most valuable, and it's a clear upgrade from our previous system.

What needs improvement?

Having everything centralized would be a preferable update.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for approximately six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It exhibits high stability, we haven't faced any significant downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We have a significant number of Mac users, and the system can effectively manage such demands.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. Even regular users can easily accomplish it by simply following the steps.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment is prompt and can be done in under an hour.

What other advice do I have?

Since I don't possess enough experience with it, I would rate it seven out of ten. Without conducting a thorough evaluation, I cannot confidently give it a higher score like eight or nine. It fulfills its purpose.

Best way to manage 1:1 project iPad in a school

  • December 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and infinite management capabilities
What do you dislike about the product?
The only drawback is the 'slowness' of services at the start of the new school year, as the servers are in very high demand.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows me to manage a fleet of over 1,200 iPads with great ease.

Jamf school has significantly reduced the amount of teacher work involved in iPad management.

  • November 02, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My favorite features of Jamf School as an administrator include
・The ability to complete the appropriate settings for the school all at once, including wi-fi setup at the time of installation.
・The information on the device can be checked even without the actual device.
・Jamf Parent allows parents to set customized restrictions for each family.
What do you dislike about the product?
In only a few instances, there are concerns that some devices may not be delivered, such as application delivery, and that Jamf Parent restrictions may be difficult to remove even for administrators.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It instantly solves the enormous amount of time it takes to manage over 700 iPads.
In addition, some functions can be properly restricted to prevent children from using them incorrectly.

Jamf School is a time saver

  • September 19, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf School has allowed me to be able to focus more on being future thinking instead of constantly living in the now. I can use device groups and profiles to have a set it and move on to other things attitude at work. The customer service that you recieve is by far top notch as well. They actually do take the time to help you get to the root of the problem, and want you to be successful at your job.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish that Jamf School had a built in remote control option that we use like they have in Jamf Pro. If I had this option the team of 5 of us for a 37 building district would be able to be more efficient on a daily basis. Sometimes just being able to get the issue resolved quicker for the end user can make or break the day!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have had a lot of trouble creating in-house applications and having customer service work with me on learning Composer has really helped! This helps me help the end users the most.
