Switching back from MariaDB to MySQL may not be so easy.
If you are using AWS, Amazon Aurora may be even faster than MariaDB and MySQL.
Your Operating System may not support MariaDB yet.
Your hosting environment may not support MariaDB yet.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
use it
Early adopter that is in for the long haul
What do you like best about the product?
Blazing (and crash resistant) speed with Aria, safe transactions with standard MySQL syntax. Stable, predictable, growing set of features that satisfies every DB storage need. The ability to deploy delayed replication with relative ease is a bonus.
What do you dislike about the product?
Clustering side of the software can be very tedious to set up, and we've instead gone with a Master-Slave-Slave setup to ensure integrity
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Storage of millions of records per day from an aggressive statistical data collection approach. Tens of millions of data points stored and queried each day. all on standard IBM server hardware with reasonable amounts of RAM.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Run, don't walk, to this solution. Very easy to deploy, very easy to administer, blazing speed, and safeguards to ensure data integrity are all key reasons to choose this over the competition.
Great product for a wide range of database uses.
What do you like best about the product?
The commitment to open source model and th continued development of innovative features and integrations. The Galera synchronous cluster and Node.js MariaDB Connector are two recent ones that come to mind.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish they would finish the Aria DB engines features to make it on par with the InnoDB engine. I wish they would incorporate either the MyDumper or mysqlpump parallel backup tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There are several different products and professional sites in use that utilize MariaDB. DB performance is a definite benefit. Many application cross compatibility is another.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a need of MySQL compatible DB server, I would highly recommend using MariaDB for stability as well as range of features and integrations.
Easy to use for many environment especially blogger.
What do you like best about the product?
Cluster function for wiki or WordPress, compatible with existing mysql. Most of the time I use it to serve woocommerce and it did really good. A lot of bash web server installation script may auto implement Mariadb to your server environment by default and compare to other paid DB, e.g. Oracle, it's works good enough for a blogger. It will be a good fit if you install the phpmyadmin for db control and edit.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In generally, I need to admin multiple Wiki and Wordpress and personal site, most of the time mariadb is still able to handle ecommerce site. Sometime you may need to use object cache to help high Database load.
Overall, maraidb is really an easy to use for a non critical site.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a free DB and not under high traffic, this is quite enough.
Perfect SQL database to store OpenStack information.
What do you like best about the product?
Since MariaDB is a fork of MySQL, the database structure and indexes of MariaDB are the same as MySQL. This allows you to switch from MySQL to MariaDB without having to alter your applications since the data and data structures will not need to change.
What do you dislike about the product?
To make sure MariaDB maintains drop-in compatibility, the MariaDB developers do a monthly merge of the MariaDB code with the MySQL code. Even with this, there are some differences between MariaDB and MySQL that could cause some minor compatibility issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used MariaDB for my OpenStack deployment. I scheduled inventory backups, via a scheduler (i.e cron) to run the appropriate commands to perform regular snapshots of my data.
