A scalable solution that supports the automation of the scanning processes

  • September 04, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My company uses Veracode Static Analysis for scanning purposes and static analysis. I am a DevOps engineer configuring automation for multiple teams in our company using Veracode Static Analysis. Our company uses the product to identify vulnerabilities in third-party libraries that our teams use internally to secure our products before moving the product outside of our company. The aforementioned features of the solution are used mostly in our company. Most of the teams within my organization use Veracode's static analysis part. My company did not procure the license for Veracode Dynamic Analysis.

How has it helped my organization?

From the market, my company could identify some of the libraries that were outdated and had severe vulnerabilities. Our company wishes to secure its products before moving out for production, for which we find Veracode helpful. Our company sees value in Veracode Static Analysis.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution is Veracode's library, which supports the automation of Veracode's scanning process.

The major benefit of Veracode Static Analysis is that you can schedule a scan on demand. We found the delta approach in scanning to be super quick in terms of returning results in our company, even though we had to make uploads of certain things, but it would be longer if the size of the scanning part were huge, making it one of the drawbacks.

What needs improvement?

If Veracode develops a plugin for multiple orchestration tools, it will be easy for us to use the product in our company.

If you schedule two parallel scans under the same project, one of them will be a failure. It would be good if Veracode could provide two different site codes since if another code scan gets triggered while the scanning for one code is going on, the newly triggered code scan fails, stating that there is already a scanning process in progress. If Veracode can handle a newly triggered second code scan in their sequence instead of making it fail and take it up later or on a wait so that they can trigger it after the first code scan gets completed, then it would be a nice improvement. There is no queuing mechanism for scanning right now.

Module selection is manual. If somebody adds a new module, it is not detected automatically, and moreover, it ignores that module and moves forward. You have to go and include that module manually, so if it is made dynamic in the future, it will be nice.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veracode Static Analysis for two years. Almost six years ago, I used Veracode Static Analysis for a year. In total, I have three years of experience with Veracode Static Analysis. My company procured the solution, so I am an end user.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. The speed of the solution was good in the past, and they have worked constantly to improve the speed.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution.

Though Veracode Static Analysis is primarily available in the USA, we scan our company from multiple locations. The solution may have a huge number of users, but our company supports 30 projects with the help of the solution, which includes scanning for 30 microservices. I am unsure of the actual numbers regarding the solution's use since it is handled by someone else in my company.

How are customer service and support?

I contacted the solution's technical support during the automation part, and it went well, after which I never faced any issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

My company used Code Insight, a very similar solution to Veracode Static Analysis, but not the same.

Code Insight scanned even first-party libraries, which includes what we used to develop in our company.

Code Insight's vulnerabilities in the database completely differed from Veracode Static Analysis, but I can't recollect where it differs. If both Veracode Static Analysis and Code Insight were the same, we would not have used both in our company, so there is a difference between them. Veracode wasn't of any support when it came to dynamic scans in the past, though Veracode has recently started to support it, which I haven't used yet. I don't see any drawbacks with Veracode, so I am satisfied with whatever Veracode offers.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is deployed on the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Depending on the number of users, my company makes payments toward the solution's licensing costs.

What other advice do I have?

Veracode handles the maintenance part of the solution. Veracode's side may be down at times for maintenance.

I recommend Veracode Static Analysis to those planning to use it, but the scans should not be carried out daily since it can get too costly. I recommend not doing the frequent scans to save on the costs.

I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten.

An easy-to-use tool with a helpful community and an efficient technical support team

  • August 31, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used for performing application security processes like source code assessment, dynamic assessment, and SCA.

How has it helped my organization?

We sell the product to our customers. We are a vendor.

What is most valuable?

The SAST and DAST modules are great. The scanning part is also good. It’s pretty easy and convenient to use. Everything is described within the product. Almost everything is available in the community and the guidelines.

What needs improvement?

Veracode Greenlight scans the code while the developer writes it. It will be beneficial for developers if Veracode Greenlight includes Python.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for almost one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the product depends upon the pricing. The price is a bit high for a small company. It is suitable for a large company.

How are customer service and support?

Support is very good. The support team resolves some issues within 24 hours.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I tried a few solutions before using Veracode. Veracode is better because it is convenient to use. The solution’s dashboard and features are pretty good. It is the topmost product among the other tools that I used. It is pretty simplified. Veracode has a lot of options to do authenticated scans. Veracode’s simplified features are helpful for people who use different authentication methodologies.

How was the initial setup?

We are using the SaaS version of the solution. The initial deployment was pretty easy. The CI/CD pipeline has a lot of dependencies, like connecting with Jenkins and Jira. If we directly upload the code to the cloud, we can deploy the product within a single day. If we do it in the CI/CD pipeline, it will take some time.

What about the implementation team?

One person can deploy the product. I haven’t had any maintenance-related issues with the solution. Whatever new vulnerabilities come, they are already updated in the database. Since we are a partner, it will be helpful if Veracode notifies us whenever it releases the vulnerability reports. We cannot always check the portal.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product’s price is a bit higher compared to other solutions. However, the tool provides good vulnerability and database features. It is worth the money.

What other advice do I have?

Veracode provides policy reporting to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. It is beneficial. The product also provides features to create custom policies. Most false-positives cases come under DAST. The false positives depend on the code. Veracode provides around 5% false positives.

The solution shows the vulnerabilities in the code and provides generic remediations for it. We must then search it on Google. The product’s community is also good. Sometimes, the product provides solutions in the community. These solutions work well on the production level.

I have also used the SCA features which help with identifying vulnerabilities in applications's third-party components. The Veracode user interface is so convenient and easy to use. Anyone can run a scan and generate a report easily.

The solution provides absolute visibility into application status at every phase of development. The users can get visibility through the CI/CD pipeline. The time taken to complete the scans depends on how much code is present in a specific application and how big the application is.

Veracode introduced a new module named Veracode Fix, which automates the fixes for insecure software with AI-generated secure code suggestions where the developer does not have to spend time searching and remediating the vulnerabilities. The developer does not have to spend time searching for vulnerabilities. Sometimes, the tool gives a generic recommendation, sometimes specific recommendations. It will be helpful if it always provides specific recommendations. The amount of time saved hinges on factors such as code complexity, the programming language employed, and the developer's proficiency in secure coding. If anyone uses Veracode throughout the entire process of building an application, from the start of development to the final production stage, can result in a time savings of around 30% to 40% when leveraging various security measures of the platform.

Veracode has had a good impact on our organization’s overall security posture. If we choose to take the complete Veracode module, we can have security from the initial step to the production phase.

I will recommend others to implement the solution. Veracode is in the Gartner Magic Quadrant. It is doing a good job.

Overall, I rate the product a nine out of ten.

Can perform software composition analysis along with static and dynamic scans

  • August 29, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

How has it helped my organization?

I have manually worked in CI/CD pipelines without Veracode. We could get automatic reports after integrating Veracode plugins into the build tool. The pipeline has become much more automatic by integrating the solution.

What is most valuable?

The best feature of Veracode is that we can do static and dynamic scans. Veracode performs software composition analysis, and we can use the solution to download different reports like the summarized report. Veracode’s interface is good.

What needs improvement?

Veracode should include the feature to run multiple scales at a time.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veracode for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veracode is a stable solution, except on one occasion when I faced some issues. I rate Veracode a nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veracode has good scalability. In our organization, Veracode is used only by our team, which consists of seven members.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used the JFrog XRAY tool for SCA (software composition analysis).

How was the initial setup?

Veracode’s initial setup was easy and straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

Implementing Veracode doesn't take much time. It takes only a few hours to implement the solution. Veracode was deployed by a team consisting of two to three members.

What other advice do I have?

I am into DevOps, and we have integrated Veracode into our DevOps pipeline.

I would recommend Veracode to other users.

Overall, I rate Veracode a nine out of ten.

Good visibility and reporting with few false positives

  • August 23, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

It's a fast solution, so we use it to search for vulnerabilities in our code, software composition analysis, and to search for vulnerabilities in our libraries.

How has it helped my organization?

We have some security gates and it's not possible to release some applications from production. We can look at the solution and see medium, high, or critical vulnerabilities with ease at every stage.

What is most valuable?

The speed is the most valuable aspect.

Veracode's ability to prevent vulnerable code from going into production is very good since we have a few false positives. I'd rate this feature nine out of ten.

Veracode's policy reporting for ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations is great. It has a detailed report that we can look at to see our landscape easily.

Veracode provides visibility into application status at every phase of development Verticode static analysis, dynamic analysis, software composition analysis, and manual penetration test throughout your SDLC. It positively affects our DevSec processes. It's not possible to bypass Veracode. It's very secure.

There are very few false positives. I'd rate the false positive rate as nine out of ten. It's very good. It's very positive for developer confidence. They understand security development very well and Veracode provides excellent transparency.

It's reduced the time we've spent on tuning policies. We've saved around two hours. We used to waste around 3 hours and now we can do what we need to in 30 minutes.

It's helped our team fix flaws. The security gate helps our developers learn how to fix vulnerabilities. The solution has also helped them save time in their efforts. It provides descriptions of how to fix certain items. It saves them from having to search on the internet for fixes.

The solution has had a positive effect on our security posture. I'd rate it nine out of ten. We have very secure applications.

What needs improvement?

They could improve how they fix vulnerabilities. They could have more support in place to help the developers. That would help a lot of users.

The pricing can be improved. It is really, really expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I'd rate the scalability nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have about 500 end users of Veracode in our organization.

I'd rate the scalability ten out of ten. It's very good.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. They are always communicative and share news and new technologies. They offer new languages and frameworks regularly.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used Checkmarx in the past, as well as Fortify. I used it in another company. However, in banking, it's not possible to use something like Checkmarx. Veracode is more secure and more trusted.

How was the initial setup?

I was involved in the deployment. It was not complex to deploy. It was straightforward. The implementation strategy included looking at different flags and vulnerabilities and deploying in phases.

We had five to seven people to deploy the solution.

I'm not sure if there may be maintenance required.

What about the implementation team?

We used a third party to help with the deployment. Our experience was good.

What was our ROI?

I'm not sure of the exact amount saved, however, we have noted an ROI. We have avoided application vulnerabilities in production. We don't need to rework things since we look at the vulnerabilities right in development instead of after deployment.

It has reduced the cost of dev backups in our organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is expensive.

However, if you have applications and not enough people to analyze the flags, you must use Veracode as it delivers very few false positives.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did evaluate other options before choosing Veracode. I looked at Checkmarx and Fortify as well as a solution made in Brazil.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer and end-user.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

I'd recommend the solution to others.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Low false positive rate, good reports, and fair price

  • August 15, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I helped customers to build and start the journey of SecOps with Veracode.

How has it helped my organization?

Veracode helps to know and prevent vulnerable code or applications from being deployed. We can scan, consume reports, and fix vulnerabilities before deploying an application.

It is very good for ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. We can have many dashboards and reports related to policy management.

Veracode provides visibility into application status at every phase of development. We can have many analytics dashboards and reports, and we can build a custom dashboard to have this visibility. This visibility is essential for DevSecOps processes. We need this visibility and information to have a strategic approach and mature our security.

Veracode has the lowest false positive rate in the market. Its results are accurate. In some cases, it is very difficult to see a false positive. We report it to the engineers, and they analyze it. If it is truly a false positive, the engineers will update the engine to provide better results at the next scan. The false positive rate of the static analysis has not affected the time we spend on tuning policies.

It has had a very good effect on our organization’s ability to fix flaws. We are developing a new feature, and Veracode will help to quickly fix any flaws.

It has helped our developers save time, but I do not have the metrics.

What is most valuable?

All features are valuable. I especially like SAST and ADO.

It is scalable and quick to deploy into the site and the pipelines. The reports and analytics are good, and the false positive rate is low. It gives true results.

What needs improvement?

There should be more APIs, especially in SCA, to get some results or automate some things.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for almost three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable. I help other companies to deploy. Some of them are small, and some of them are big.

How are customer service and support?

Their support is good. I would rate them a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used any other solution previously. I have only worked with Veracode.

How was the initial setup?

It is a SaaS solution. Its initial setup is straightforward. I started with the most critical applications and automated the scanners inside the pipeline. After getting the results, I aligned the security policies. I prioritized the most critical vulnerabilities and assigned these reports to different groups and teams. I also integrated the other plugins into the IDE.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented it myself. I work with DevOps and security teams. In some cases, I also work with developers.

It does not require any maintenance. Because it is a SaaS solution, the maintenance is provided by them.

What was our ROI?

The ROI is in terms of time savings and mature security. When you deploy a solution like Veracode, you can have these quickly.

It reduces the cost of DevSecOps for the organization when you use it for more than one year.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its pricing is fair.

What other advice do I have?

It is essential and perfect for preventing vulnerable code from going into production. Nowadays, it is very important and sensible to have a solution like Veracode to know all the vulnerabilities and manage and prioritize the ones that are more critical and better for security posture.

I have not used the Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) feature much, but it is easy to create a report using the SBOM feature. It is important for the supply chain that your software uses.

I would rate Veracode a nine out of ten.

Utilized for scanning containers and integrated within DevOps workflows

  • August 14, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We used Barracuda for scanning containers. And in all in DevOps workflow.

What is most valuable?

The coverage of backdoors attacks on security that's the most valuable for my clients.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in documentation. Maybe the documentation about how to configure something. It is difficult to get the expected result.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable. It works very well in the parameter like an enterprise solution. We don't have any problems with that.

How are customer service and support?

We are very pleased with the support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I would rate my experience with the initial setup a six out of ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy to set up.

What about the implementation team?

We work on the deployment process. The solution is deployed both on-prem and in the cloud environment.

The solution doesn't require any maintenance.

What was our ROI?

It took two years to see ROI for our clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veracode is expensive. But the solution is worth it.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten. It is a good solution for security. In my personal opinion, there are not many products like Veracode in the market.

Good scanning, manages security risks, and prevents vulnerable code from going into production

  • August 11, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have data deployments for B2B and B2C with the product. Before we used a deployment center like Jenkins. We use it for backend content.

What is most valuable?

We've only used the solution for a year; it hasn't been that long.

The deployment mode is very useful.

We like that it can prevent vulnerable code from going into production.

We use the low-level elements and do greenlight deployment through Veracode.

It helps us manage our licensing and security risks. However, we are in the implementation process right now. So far, it's okay and working fine.

It's good that we can do a full code scan, front to back, or vice versa.

We mostly use the policy scan and vulnerability scan mostly.

The security is okay.

What needs improvement?

The reporting can be difficult. It's not very easy.

It's taking too much time to do a quality scan. It hasn't saved us much time. Deployment was three or four months ago. We did a policy scan using a greenlight deployment. When we do the deployment in Jenkins, we can do it faster. In Veracode, it can take four hours or even eight hours.

We don't like how long it takes to do a deployment. It should deploy more quickly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

While there is no lagging or crashing, it takes too much time to deploy.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't had any issues with scalability. That said, currently we are not scaling. Previously it was fine. Currently, we're not scaling.

How are customer service and support?

Currently, we do not use support. We don't communicate with them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used SAP and Jenkins in the past.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment takes too long.

I was not directly involved in the deployment of Veracode. I generally use Jenkins only.

Two people are typically involved in the deployment.

Every week, on Friday, we put the servers down, and every Monday, we put them back up, to save on costs.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment is automated using Jenkins. We just need some parameters to deploy the code to the environment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is worth it. However, users need to go through the documentation first to get a handle on the implementation. Users might need the help of a support platform.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options before choosing this solution.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure how much visibility we are getting using the solution.

The false positive rate we haven't really looked into. We need to learn more about it.

We are just end users, not partners.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

It's a good idea to look at the documentation. Be very cautious when implementing servers.

Has great static scanning and has had a significant impact on our organization's ability to address flaws

  • August 11, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Veracode to ensure our solutions meet the security standards in the financial industry in Nigeria.

How has it helped my organization?

Veracode does an excellent job to prevent vulnerable code from entering production.

Veracode ensures that the products we create for our clients are free of any code-related issues. This keeps them satisfied with our service and encourages them to continue doing business with us.

Veracode provides peace of mind and increases confidence in our code within the market. We realized the benefits within a few months.

At first, we experienced a high number of false positives, but the Veracode team provided guidance that enabled us to significantly reduce the count.

Initially, our developers were frustrated due to the high false positive rate. However, as we managed to reduce the number of false positives and the developers recognized that these were not actual issues, their morale improved, and their acceptance of the use of Veracode increased.

The false positive rate of the static analysis reduced the time that we spend on different operations.

Veracode has had a significant impact on our organization's ability to address flaws. The solution is capable of detecting issues and providing suggestions that assist us in rectifying problems within the code.

Veracode helps our developers save time. We review the recommendations provided by the solution, adhere to our best practices, and then proceed to implement these suggestions. In cases where we might have had three lines of code, the solution is capable of reducing that to one or two lines. I would estimate that Veracode has decreased our developer time by 40 percent.

Veracode enables us to enhance our security posture by applying the knowledge we acquire through Veracode to all our new projects. Additionally, we can revisit previous projects to implement upgrades and add features, thereby enhancing their security.

Veracode helps to decrease our DevSecOps costs by saving our developers' time and aiding in the production of error-free code.

What is most valuable?

The static scan is the most valuable feature. We are also currently evaluating the Dynamic scan.

What needs improvement?

Veracode is costly, and there is potential for improvement in its pricing. In our region of the world, it is challenging to attract a significant number of sign-ups due to its unaffordability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veracode for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veracode is stable.

How are customer service and support?

Based on the limited interaction we've had with technical support, I am satisfied with their service.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used a tool in the past that was free, but we couldn't depend on the quality of the scans it provided in the free version.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of Veracode is high.

There comes a point when we must make a decision between cost and quality, and we chose to prioritize quality by selecting Veracode. The confidence that Veracode instills in both our developers and clients justifies the associated cost.

We have four solution licenses for the static analysis scans.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also evaluated one of Veracode's competitors. After conversing with the sales and technical teams of both solutions, we concluded that Veracode was the best choice for us.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veracode an eight out of ten.

We are currently in the process of investigating Veracode's capability to offer insight into the status of applications at each stage of development.

The dynamic analysis feature helps secure risky web applications

  • August 09, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for Veracode is to secure our software development lifecycle. It's deployed in a couple of countries and connected to multiple applications. It's used by five development teams, each of which has a different focus, such as digital channels, CRM, ERP, backend deployment, and billing. We also have a team that coordinates all of the efforts of the secure development policies. That team sets the guidelines and policies. The entire development team has about 20-30 people.

How has it helped my organization?

Veracode has sped up the development cycle, helping us bring products to the market faster. I work at an IT services company with hundreds of customers who have various needs for different kinds of tools. That doesn't mean we use Veracode for all our customers, but for certain customers, it's critical because the solution reduces the amount of time needed to prevent and detect issues. Bringing secure applications into production is essential.

We can't just rely on our development teams to make, test, and manually review the code. We need powerful tools that provide a strong framework for detecting vulnerabilities and scanning application components. Penetration testing is the most important because hackers break into the application and access the information.

Dynamic analysis is also crucial for web applications, which can be risky. Veracode can dynamically detect vulnerabilities and block traffic. It is sometimes hard to differentiate real users from hackers. Dynamic analysis must be implemented with a user-sensitive perspective.

I work in Latin America, and there are regulations on information security and the use of customer information. The most vital areas are things like health information and finance. You can face penalties for failing to protect customer information, so it's critical for us to secure our code during development. Any vulnerable code or application component can risk disclosing customer information from customers and allowing an outsider to penetrate the systems or databases.

Veracode offers visibility throughout the entire development lifecycle. SecOps is an essential framework inside the organization currently because we need to deliver applications to market faster while improving code quality. It's crucial to be careful when using code generated by community sources. We need to test the final applications and also the components and packages in any code repository we use.

We're deploying complex pipelines and utilizing CI/CD. For example, Veracode is important when connecting management tools, code repositories, and various cloud components. Having that integration and capacity to connect to various tools in the DevOps framework is vital for the DevOps team. Every business must decide its risk tolerance and set a threshold of vulnerability permissions in the application to detect. It's really powerful if you can configure the threshold correctly.

Developer confidence depends on their capacity to understand, and Veracode has to detect vulnerabilities and provide suggestions for correcting them. Sometimes it's an upgrade; sometimes not. It also provides different kinds of information to the developers.

Veracode has had an enormous impact on our ability to detect flaws. It's risky if we don't have the capacity to detect vulnerabilities in the earliest stage of development before the applications go into production. It's also an important time-saving tool. It reduces the time spent manually addressing vulnerabilities by about 20-30 percent.

What is most valuable?

I like Veracode's static analysis. It was one of the core development tools when I worked with a telecommunication company where we were delivering new features for various applications and purposes each week, such as CRM, data channels, compliance, traffic data, etc.

Most of the time, the key thing was to ensure the security of digital channels and reduce the risk of any breach that could cause a security issue. It's critical to maintain the security of sensitive information transferred from our customers to the sales staff. Keeping that data secure is important for the customer relationship and also for compliance and recurring sales.

I rate Veracode 10 out of 10 for its ability to prevent vulnerable code from entering production. It has a lot of useful and intuitive features. In previous settings, static analysis was one of the primary use cases, but dynamic analysis is also helpful. Veracode is highly valuable because one vulnerability could result in service downtime or worse: a leak of customer information.

The investment in the tool is justified because we can detect and prevent vulnerabilities much earlier in the process. Software composition analysis is also vital when we use open-source middleware or backend components for business-critical functions like bringing information from one source to another or connecting one application to another.

What needs improvement?

Veracode can improve the price model and how they bill the final offer to customers. It's based on the amount of traffic. For example, you can buy 1 gigabyte distributed across various applications, and each one can consume part of the whole allotment of traffic data.

You pay for all of the time that the tool is running, not for the number of scans. There are specific rules governing the amount of traffic applications can consume from the allotment you have. I would like the pricing to be more personalized. For example, some companies don't have a large budget for this kind of tool, whereas a large enterprise can acquire this kind of solution and pay for it. However, I'm an IT consultant working with various types of customers in different industries, including finance, insurance, and telecommunications.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Veracode at least three years ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veracode is a highly stable platform. I haven't experienced any service disruption, and the performance is solid.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I've used Veracode in a telecommunication company with a huge environment and more than a hundred applications. I don't have experience with smaller-scale use cases, but I know the cloud is quite scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I rate Veracode support nine out of 10. We get support from the resellers and direct support from Veracode analysts. We call the support team or the architect when there is a serious technical isssue.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I haven't used a commercial tool like Veracode before. It depends on where I'm working, but the most common tool we use is an open-source solution called SonarQube.

How was the initial setup?

Veracode is straightforward to deploy. It's not hard to connect it, and we had support from a local vendor to help us integrate it into our dev lifecycle. It required only one person from my team.

What about the implementation team?

We had assistance from our local reseller, and the experience was great because we had a direct connection from the partner to the brand. We have a local team member who was in charge of the resell process.

What was our ROI?

We calculate the return on investment primarily based on the risk. We calculate the ROI annually, but it's not very detailed. We factor in the risks associated with the loss of customer information loss, penalties for noncompliance, etc. In the worst-case scenario, we estimate that could potentially lose up to $1 million annually.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing model could be more flexible, and Veracode could be more accessible to smaller enterprises. We obtained Veracode through a consultancy. Veracode sets the price through consultation with our reseller, but I have yet to get a direct quotation without any other reseller in the middle. If you are worried about the price, I would say that you could request more information and do a trial, then see if you can negotiate an offer.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We decided to use Veracode without comparing it to any other kind of solution, we had a kind of consultancy from one of the companies, the IT services company that was one of our partners, and they worked close to us, and we selected Barracuda the tool that we needed.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veracode nine out of 10. It's an excellent solution for securing the development lifecycle. I recommend starting with a trial and getting in touch with the account team to explore all of the different features.

What is our primary use case?

I have helped other companies implement Veracode Static Analysis in their IT environment. In our company, we need to scan many .NET applications using Veracode, and we could scan our software since it is a SaaS solution, after which we process the reports to improve the product.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are its extensive reporting capabilities and user-friendly interface.

What needs improvement?

There are certain shortcomings in Veracode's static analysis engine. I would improve Veracode's static analysis engine to make it capable of identifying vulnerabilities with low false positives.

The product is good, and if improvements are required, then such improvements should not be significant enough. There may be a slight scope to improve the product's integration capabilities. The product can also consider improving its support of different .NET versions and other programming languages, like Java.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veracode Static Analysis for three or four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Our company faced some issues with the tool, but the support team solved these issues quite quickly. The stability of the tool is high. Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. We can implement the tool in different DevOps environments and projects, because of which we can create groups of applications and apply different policies to application groups, making it an enterprise-level tool. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support helped us solve different problems related to Veracode, including some of its use cases. Veracode's support helped our company get around a problem and how to set up the scan rules correctly when we had some unexpected errors during the scanning process. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with Snyk. I used Snyk a year ago. Snyk doesn't support the version of the .NET applications we use in our company, so we decided to move to Veracode.

What about the implementation team?

The initial setup was easy since it is a SaaS solution and a well-documented product at the same time. In our company, we don't need to spin up a server to install something since we simply use the web interface and integrate the web interface with the DevOps environment.

On a scale of one to ten, where one is a hard setup and ten is an easy setup, I rate the initial setup phase an eight or nine.

The solution is deployed on the cloud. In our company, we use Microsoft Azure DevOps for our environment, but I don't know the environment in which Veracode gets used in our company. Veracode offers a web interface and API, so I don't know their cloud solutions.

The deployment is quite fast, but its overall quickness in terms of deployment depends on the number of applications you want to scan. If you want to scan one application, the deployment can be quickly done since we need to integrate Veracode into our DevOps environment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of the product depends upon the number of codes or the number of applications.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend those planning to use the solution check the system requirements and choose a solution that supports programming languages and .NET Framework versions that record scans.

I am not sure if it is one of the best solutions because I am not an expert in other solutions available in the market. Somehow, I personally feel it is one of the best tools in the market.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.
