So much Stastistic - So little time
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is, by far, the most intense statistical software I have ever encountered. Whereas with other software you might use to sort or compute data, like Excel and to a certain extent Access, SPSS can handle the sheer amount of data you might be looking to process for a research project like content analysis or surveying.
What do you dislike about the product?
While I find SPSS much more user friendly than Excel or Access, the running tabs and organizations do not always feel intuitive. Most of the data I process is nominal. I hardly process anything more statistically heavy than Cramer's V, Cohen's Kappa, and Chi-Squares so at times I feel like a baby with a hand grenade: It's more software than *I* need. But what I need it for I really need it because it's button clicking which results in less error than when I'm looking up and typing the function on excel
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm using the software to crunch research numbers for projects I'm a part of for my university
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are considering getting SPSS for your university or for yourself as a researcher, I cannot stress enough - go, get, or have someone train you, in how to use the software. It does do SO much, but without training your ability to use SPSS is going to be limited. I spent time button mashing, trial and error, and having professors walk them through typical processes. When I have problems, they are typically due to human error and not the software itself so I Google or ask other SPSS users how to get around it.
SPSS is a good stat analysis tool
What do you like best about the product?
A good data storage center and have a lot of stats functions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Does require some training to get use to it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to do stat test on data sets.
SPSS offers a wide range of stat tests.
SPSS offers a wide range of stat tests.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take some training courses or tutorial for it, it can be overwhelming at first.
Easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
user friendly and easy to understand. The tutorial is well written.
What do you dislike about the product?
Less robust than SAS and does not demand in-depth understanding of statistics.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Multivariate analysis to test if tax incentives generate employment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Yes.
SPSS Statistics
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use and does not require major coding skills. Very intuitive and contains a large variety of functions and calculations. Recommend it for anyone who does not have a computer degree or similar.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far nothing. Could be a bit faster when calculating large data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Statistics in medical research, improving surgery quality
Recommendations to others considering the product:
N/A
very positive
What do you like best about the product?
the interface and multifunctionality, possibility to solve difficult problems and undertake multi-variate analysis
What do you dislike about the product?
its graphic capacities -graphs function - from the visual point of view needs a bit of more work. we have to re-do graphs in other programs instead of using SPSS produced graphs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
data analysis (uni and multi-variate) and reporting
Not all that intuitive, but powerful
What do you like best about the product?
Commands are relatively straightforward once you have get the hang of them, powerful software.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike how finicky commands can be without making it clear what is wrong with your code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work at a market research company, so my entire day is data. I couldn't do the level of analysis necessary for clients without this software.
<3 SPSS
What do you like best about the product?
Being able to easily organize and complete data analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish some of the functions took fewer steps to complete. For instance, when combining multiple variables into one.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With the ability to complete data analysis for the industry in which I work, we have been able to make data-informed decisions which therefore affects our clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I guess some functions are easier to do as syntax than they are through the steps. It would be helpful if, for novices to SPSS, there were some easier or fewer steps to take when completing data analysis.
Great for learning statistics
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use; option for point and click or use of syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
Inability to easily function as a relational database.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Higher education program needs assessment and program evaluation. IBM SPSS has been an invaluable tool for facilitating a determination of program worth.
Want serious correlations? Go for SPSS.
What do you like best about the product?
Data and variable tiles, this is perhaps the most useful tool of SPSS. Another essential characteristic of SPSS is that you can display the results of an F-Test/Cronbach's Alpha/Duncan (or any test) in a separate window (you can't do this at Excel, except if you display results in another sheet).
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI isn't the most beautiful, it should be more friendly and minimalistic. It isn't a sin to take a small peak to Office 365 interface and learn one or two things. The ancient icons should be replaced.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When you are doing benchmarking, you want to know if certain services or solutions are positively/negatively related to some directories, niches, target audiences, etc. Also, you have the graphics generator which is very useful and highly detailed with your tails and variables, so you can make sure to display your data the way you want. The main benefit is that I can copy/paste everything to my Google Slides presentations without issues, also, I can export my work to Excel in case I need to work somewhere.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Always educate yourself with Youtube tutorials and walkthroughs before seriously starting with this product. At the beginning, it may appear as a very difficult and complex interface, but don't be fooled, you just need to know the basics and you will be fine. It is always primordial to know from the experience of the experts.
Useful for some analytics
What do you like best about the product?
I prefer to use R or python for data analysis, but I have found some analyses are much easier using SPSS.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't care for the output as much as some other software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to analyze data from a conjoint analysis study that has allowed us to select food concepts for a renovation.
