Long time SPSS user
What do you like best about the product?
Point and click analysis is more user friendly than R, which requires an understanding of writing R code
What do you dislike about the product?
Does not handle layered text well. Also, I wish Modeler was implemented in SPSS rather than a separate program and fee.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Advertising effectiveness
SPSS useful for educational data
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a useful tool for those just starting out in data analysis
What do you dislike about the product?
The charts you can build with SPSS are nowhere near as pretty as those I can make in Excel
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS is useful for parsing educational data
SPSS is great for nonparametric statistics
What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is easy, it is different from others but very intuitive once you are used to it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The graphs are not very pretty and altering the graphs is complicated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to analyze data that will ultimately go into peer-reviewed publications. It fits all of my needs in this area.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's definitely worth it!
SPSS Review
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is very user-friendly when using menu options. The book that goes along with it is helpful for using syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
It requires some processing power and sometimes does not work on my laptop. Needs better training manuals for new students who have never used SPSS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS to analyze data from our research projects. We do not solve "business problems" but have never had issues even with rather complicated quantitative analysis.
Simple and effective statistical software
What do you like best about the product?
I like that I have the option of writing my own syntax but also clicking in menus and the software is able to write syntax/code for me. I like that it is easy to use overall in terms of the tutorials and manuals you can find online.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like sometimes it can slow my computer down when files are very large... although this is expected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to do much more in SPSS than what can be done in Excel. Most of my colleagues are fluent in excel but if they want to take their data analysis a step further, I have to help them using SPSS.
Usable product to create major giving likelihood scores
What do you like best about the product?
We were able to create our own prospect major giving likelihood score in house versus having to outsource
What do you dislike about the product?
Time consuming, it takes a bit to get set up to run a regression analysis but in the end it was worth it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
using our own data in house to create a giving likelihood score for our development officers
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Takes some effort but if you would rather do data analytics in house then this is a very workable product
Very user friendly if you know what you are doing
What do you like best about the product?
I like that the reports generated are very clear and summarize the information. If you know what buttons to press, the graphs and tables are very attractive and easy to present.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it is hard to know whether you are running the correct statistical test. It is for sure a program that you need a reference guide to make the correct assumptions. There is not idiot proof filter. It is very easy to generate results that look good, but they don't mean what you think they mean.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using it in research and analyzing data. I have just learned about statistical processes in my classes and it is amazing how easy it is to get results with so much meaning by just a few steps and formatting the data correctly. I love that I can upload my data directly from Excel. It saves a ton of time in data entry.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have a good user manual or somebody who knows what they are talking about.
User Friendly
What do you like best about the product?
It is a very intuitive software. It runs a lot of statistical test that we ussualy need as a researcher.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some extensions only run in Windows, for example, AMOS, for Structural Equation Modeling. This extension only works using Windows...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Research in general. At this moment I am running my PhD dissertation data. It is a fast software as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a very user-friendly statistic software. Very intuitive. You can use AMOS (for Structural Equation Modeling) in it, as an extension (but only in Windows)
Great product
What do you like best about the product?
I have used this software for statistical analysis. It is very user friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the price of the software. It is too expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS has allowed me to run a variety of statistics with easy-to-understand guides and tutorials.
Expensive but it is useful for someone who is not entirely stats savvy
What do you like best about the product?
One of the best/worst features of SPSS is that you could run a statistical analysis without knowing the equations. As someone in (sort of) humanities, this software helped me a lot because I did not have to write my own code. However, you may find it problematic if you have some solid understanding of math.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing is such a pain. Every year, the software costs about $200. This is not very accessible to the graduate students.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need to run some analyses for my research in social science/humanities. Also, it's click-click-click. The students with zero math background can run their own analyses, too!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It could be made a bit more user-friendly and visually appealing. The entire software just reminds me of an old windows software.
