One of the standard statistical packages, so you might as well get started
What do you like best about the product?
Not much changes from iteration to iteration of IBM SPSS Statistics, so if you learn it once, you won't need to (re)learn too much for any newer version.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's ugly. Really ugly. Not always intuitive how to get some basic descriptive statistics. Support for it is garbage.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Needed statistical analysis. It's usually most useful when someone else is already using SPSS Statistics for a data set, in which case I can just use what they share with me in the same software, instead of trying to get something to work in R.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go check out R. Maybe you want that, instead. And it's free...
SPSS for statistics in research setting
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is easy to use for basic statistical functions. The output is very clean and easy to interpret. I primarily use SPSS for data cleaning as it is really easy to recode, rename, and compute new variables.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS syntax is very bulky. SPSS is not very customizable and I find it difficult to perform advanced functions or to write customized code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS to conduct basic statistics in our research.
SPSS has helped me analyze quantitative data
What do you like best about the product?
the organization of SPSS' functions. it is clear which function to choose when comparing variables in the system
What do you dislike about the product?
sometimes there are too many options. I'm unsure what statistical test to run and some of the tests are too similar to each other
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
able to analyze data in order to show results
Great software for stats
What do you like best about the product?
Efficient and quick; easy to use once comfortable with software; great for both simple and advanced statistical analyses
What do you dislike about the product?
not very intuitive upon first use and can be cumbersome to navigate functions
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analysis for research studies; very useful in computing statistics quickly for large data sets
Easy and great for beginners
What do you like best about the product?
The dropdown feature on SPSS is by far the best part--particularly for those interested in applied statistics, or for people who are getting started working with simple analyses such as crosstabs and other bi- and multivariable models.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS has its limitations. When it comes to advanced modeling, it's harder to execute this on SPSS... Softwares like R or SAS are more helpful in this regard.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to analyze data from qualitative surveys that aim to answer social and behavioral health-oriented research questions.
Easy and Productive Product
What do you like best about the product?
I like the easy interface. It was easy for me to navigate on my own, even though it was a slightly different version than I was trained to use for SPSS.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't point to one particular thing that I dislike. I have only ever used SPSS, so I'm just used to this program and how it works. Perhaps if I had another program to compare it to I might be able to better answer this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am conducting neuropsychology research. We use this software to analyze our data and see if there are statistically significant similarities or differences between groups we are studying.
User friendly but limited functionality
What do you like best about the product?
The best feature of SPSS is that it is relatively easy to use and train others to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main disadvantage to SPSS is that there are many statistical analyses that cannot be conducted with the software. Further, because it is GUI based, it can be unclear how some of the calculations are performed. It is also more difficult to perform operations on the data than it is in Excel (e.g., combining conditions, calculating proportions, etc.).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I primarily use this product for teaching and research.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure that the software performs the functions you are interested in prior to purchasing.
Research assistant
What do you like best about the product?
Excellent user friendly and professional SPSS Program
What do you dislike about the product?
I only dislike the cost and the monthly subscription
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have benefitted from SPSS Publication ready charts that have saved me time and money!
Tracking study
What do you like best about the product?
It is user friendly, but I'm new with it and doing a pilot study
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the file formats are tough but that is not really an spss issue, more internal
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Files that are hard to work with have been a problem. Benefits from quicker run times
Review of SPSS Analytics
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of creating models for regression analyses, and is able to crunch through very large datasets in a short period of time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Key functionality is not available in the base package. Would need to upgrade with add-ons for additional analysis functions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Database management, descriptive analysis, and regression
