Great too for research
What do you like best about the product?
Its ability to let you do point-and-click analysis with the option of being able to paste syntax. Helps in learning the syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be quite difficult to use for a novice user. Nonetheless, theres a lot of tutorials.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
None.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Youtube and google instructions on how to run particular syntax.
User Friendly Research Tool
What do you like best about the product?
It's user friendly and easy to learn. Great for one has no programming background to use for research projects. Good Tech support person to work with when something goes wrong (not often).
What do you dislike about the product?
Structural equation modeling is not included unless you purchase AMOS. Affordability - It is expensive without any academic discount and you must purchase add-on features more advanced capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use IBM Statistics and IBM SPSS Text Analytical for Surveys for social/education and market research projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a good starting/Intro. level software for studnets or anyone who wants to foucs on data analyses.
Great program for social scientists across the board
What do you like best about the product?
I love that it is a well used software that you can find answers to all over the internet. While it does have a cost, the student cost is reasonable when you buy from a third party seller. I like that you can use the pretty intuitive user interface clicking drop down menu options, but that you can also use syntax to do your analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that you have to buy a new license every year, or up to 3 years depending on your license.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use this for my personal research, my professional work as well as a data/research analyst.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a good software to do all 'basic' statistical analyses this is a great software to go to. You can use it at a pretty basic level, it's quick to learn, or you can learn the syntax and even learn python to use with this software.
Easy to use once you learn the idiosyncrasies
What do you like best about the product?
Nice graphical interface and a fair number of analyses available. The spreadsheet-like data manager is nice to work with for those familiar with Excel etc.. Has the ability to program additional analyses if you've got the chops to do so.
What do you dislike about the product?
Has a fair number of funny little idiosyncrasies, including the variable naming conventions, analytical procedures that aren't always easy to find, and minimal graph building options that can be a little janky to work with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My go-to statistical software package for most of my research projects. Handles most critical things well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Reliable and generally well-accepted by the academic community. Good for most traditional analyses but more complex analyses require either plug-ins or different software packages. I use SPSS, MPlus, RUMM2030, MatLab, and Excel for different functions depending on what I'm doing. Consider your uses carefully before purchasing. Also note that the version iterates every year, so you may find yourself purchasing new versions every year if you always want the most up to date version. Though, for what it's worth, that's rarely necessary as the iterations aren't that dramatic. Has yet to have a good big data analysis mechanism baked in, and the SEM options require the AMOS plug in, and AMOS isn't the most robust SEM program (I use MPlus for that reason). The GUI approach is nice though, you can do most analyses without having to write a piece of code which is great.
great for social and behavior science
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, you don't need to have programming experience
The tutorial video is super useful too

What do you dislike about the product?
Not good for large dataset or repetitive analysis
Can be slow and not much flexibility to get customized results

For some of my courses with medical students or non-pro analysts
it's a step up compared wot Excel

SPSS
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use statistical analysis... I was able to run formulas and export data quickly. This program helped me tell a story using data, and brought numbers and statistics to life. What's best was that I feel like I only used 5% of the capabilities... I wish I knew more about the additional capabilities within the program! My favorite thing was that it made me feel so polished... the final product on SPSS was outstanding.
What do you dislike about the product?
Like I mentioned above, there is so much you can do with SPSS. At times, it felt overwhelming. I wish there was more "Help" features that didn't just explain basic steps, but overall big picture concepts. For instance, WHY would I want to use a certain feature, or insert a specific variable in a formula, or it provided a recommendation of which chart was best suited for my needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used this program when running response rates for a conference -- it helped me analyze what courses/session would be most attractive to conference attendees based on information about their past experiences.
I also used SPSS frequently throughout courses in graduate school. There, it helped me run case studies and predictive analyses.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is so much you can do with SPSS ... consider buying a help book! :)
Very powerful, but you need to know how to drive it
What do you like best about the product?
Incredibly versatile and very powerful when it comes to managing data
What do you dislike about the product?
Really need to know what you are doing. Having training or a trained colleague will help immensely - otherwise you will be stuck from step one!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing massive datasets, conducting analysis and processing data into tables.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get it with training - at its current cost, it's not worth buying if you're not prepared to learn how to use it
does the job but hard to understand at first
What do you like best about the product?
it is easy to use once you understand how the software works. great graphs. very easy to choose what you do and do not want to show up when analyzing data. easy to change data output names for better understanding if your results if you are creating a large number of data outputs all at once.
What do you dislike about the product?
hard to understand when first using the software. not too many tutorials out there on how to use certain parts of this software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
great at analyzing data and learning the different results that can come out of the data inputs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
consider creating a forum for users to better understand how to use the software. it is not clear on how to get from one point to another without having to look it up or take hours learning.
SPSS review
What do you like best about the product?
ease of use - easy to teach in graduate classes
What do you dislike about the product?
updates are not as frequent as SAS/R - cannot analyze as easily and proficient as other software
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data analyzation
Excellent tool for data analysis
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using SPSS for the last 6 years. As a research assistant, this is an ideal tool to import, clean, organize and analyze my data. The graphs are very beautiful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Collaborative offline working is missing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently, I am using SPSS to manage my longitudinal study data. The ease of defining and analyzing data is better than other software. Would still prefer to have online collaborative version
