When it comes to regressional analysis, IBM is tried and true

  • January 28, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
This is the statistical suite I learned on in graduate school. Honestly, I didn't pick it, my professors did. When it came time to purchase a statsitical suite for my private sector role, it was natural that I used the one I was already trained on. Yes, it's expensive (and there are free competitors). But, once you learn how to use it through the GUI, it does everything you need to do.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cost! Oh man, this is expensive. You will need to explain the definitive business need for the software to management. Due to the nature of stats analysis, you may not be SURE you'll add sufficient value to cover the cost. Plan on that!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm a statistician by trade. I can add high end data analysis to any project I undertake. I need a statistical suite like IBM SPSS to do that. I've realized the benefit of advanced stats insights into otherwise really dense and inscrutable data sets.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have a look. IF you can't use R or a similar free non-GUI or GUI-light package, IBM SPSS has a number of nifty tools and quality support.

SPSS is an easy-to-use software for statistics

  • January 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a program that lends itself well to both beginner statisticians and experts in the field. It allows to user to upload large amounts of data and then run many different statistics and create charts for data visualization. I prefer the charts generated by SPSS over that of Excel.
What do you dislike about the product?
The program does not run as quickly as I'd like, and takes some time to process data and run statistics/generate charts. Users may not want to import huge amounts of data at a time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to chart frequency distributions of the incidence of disease, such as meningitis, and I have realized the benefits of being able to single out certain variables that may uncover different trends.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider switching from Excel to SPSS.

Neccessary for Data Analysis

  • January 26, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a social scientist, this is my go to application for analyzing my data. It allows me to run my analyses, and display my results in an appropriate way for the work that I do. I can also customize and organize my data in a way that works best for me, allowing me to do the best research possible for myself.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a bit of a learning curve with SPSS, and there are some extensions you will need to buy or get a code for (i.e., bootstrapping), but outside of that it is a very thorough program. If you are new to the program, there are a plethora of resources available online that will walk you through how to execute what you need to as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With IBM SPSS Statistics, we are able to collect, organize, and analyze data from the research we do in order to make sense of our findings. With SPSS, we are able to run analyses on our data effectively, and in turn present that data with the world.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It does take time to learn to use SPSS in a way that works best for you, but take advantage of the resources IBM gives you, and other resources available online (there are plenty!). If you are in the social sciences and looking to analyze your data, I would highly recommend it.

Excellent software for data analysis

  • January 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS features menus that are intuitive and I would argue are better than Stata's. This is a great feature for someone who wants to learn the software and its tools as a novice.
What do you dislike about the product?
Despite SPSS having those intuitive menus, they can feel clunky and slow, especially if one has proficiency in another program's (like Stata) syntax. One of the biggest drawbacks of Stata is that licenses are costly, far moreso than competitors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I enjoy exploring SPSS' menus in a way that Stata does not offer. This helps me think of policy issues in ways different (yes, software matters to your conception of any project!) and I have been able to develop econometric skills using it.

A good stat tool for beginners

  • January 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
IBM SPSS is a very good tool for those who are just beginning to do data analysis. While it offers more advanced options, learning about the basic functions and tools of analysis is not overwhelming. The interface is intuitive and not overwhelming. As someone who uses it for research projects, SPSS is also a nice tool to facilitate team discussions of data.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are certain functions of IBM SPSS that are limited with the basic version and require an upgrade. I am not sure how these features are determined, but some of them would be nice to have with the basic version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use IBM SPSS to conduct research data analysis. It is an easy system for the team to use so it facilitates our work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is best learned from someone who has experience with it, rather than from a manual and/or textbook.

Beginners Jitters, Be gone!

  • January 23, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I am an intern and a student within Health Sciences and I have begun to use more statistical programming platforms. I already had some experience with SQL and so I was hopeful that SPSS would be easier for me to pick up on - it was just that! I like that it easy to import data and easy to navigate the dropdown menus. Moreover, the newest version of SPSS is very pleasing.
What do you dislike about the product?
The drawback is the expense and the lack of student ability to afford.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been using this program to perform linear regression and basic descriptive statistics.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make it free for current students.

spss allows users to build the best model. For a data analyst, SPSS is helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface is outdated and not improving. The system speed is slow
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data Analytics. The stepwise model function makes SPSS better than Excel in terms of my work.
