A robust DAMS with great API functionality and more complex-metadata support than most other DAMS
What do you like best about the product?
Top ten reasons I chose Cortex over alternatives within my budget:
1. The metadata and taxonomy management functionality is the foundation of any DAMS, and Cortex offers more advanced options than most other systems I've seen. Where many DAMS feel like the database is one giant spreadsheet, Cortex allows for something closer to a relational database or attributes on an XML element, where you can manage multiple data types and reference one from another.
2. The Cortex user interface design and ease of use of the application are modern and pleasant, with many different view options. They do have a ways to go with mobile, though.
3. Built-in fixity checks, collection management, and workflow management capabilities.
4. Good list of integrations (including Microsoft Azure for speech to text, some Adobe Creative Cloud tools, DropBox, Active Directory for single-sign-on, etc.)
5. Great API-first functionality. For most tasks, if you can do it in the GUI, you can do it with the APIs. There's also decent tooling support for non-developers if you want to interact with the API but need a little hand-holding to do it.
6. Pricing model allows unlimited users rather than being per-seat.
7. Decent support for system admins to customize on their own. There are certain types of changes that have to be configured by the vendor, but you can do a lot on your own.
8. Strong community of support for fellow Orange Logic customers. Hang with other sys-admins or product owners on Slack and help each other solve problems.
9. Responsive support team. Feature enhancements seem reasonably priced, and if there's a broad enough use-case, they tend to get added in a timely fashion. We had a particularly important use-case for adding the ability to extract metadata (from the RIFF chunk) and automatically calculate loudness values from Broadcast WAV files upon ingest. They delivered on our key use-cases quickly and under budget.
10. Cortex also supports an out-of-the-box external, publicly-accessible collections site. We're not using this yet, but it seems like it could be a good way of providing access and expanding the reach of an archival collection. It could also be used to allow external audiences to submit digitization or licensing requests.

What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of a sophisticated knowledge-base, although there have been improvements on this front since I first got access a year ago.
There's pretty broad support for audiovisual containers and codecs, but the management of and configuration of proxies has to be set up by the vendor and isn't very flexible. They use FFMPEG under the hood, like any self-respecting DAMS, but they don't let you customize how it's configured on your own.
Mobile UI/UX has a ways to go.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our vision statement for the Cortex is: "The DAMS is a solid technology platform that bridges divides between NYPR departments by enabling better, more streamlined digital asset management workflows, and becoming the most comprehensive repository of media assets with the most extensive set of metadata about each individual asset."
We're using Cortex for collection management, preservation, and access to "finished-assets" first and foremost. We're also using it for internal workflow management and a core integration platform for production workflows.

Powerful and elegant solution, bringing order to chaos
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate how customizable the product is, allowing us to tailor the DAM to the needs of our users and materials. From a design standpoint, Cortex is elegant with an easy-to-navigate interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
The speech to text delivers far from a perfect transcript but overall very useful. There are few downsides, and I believe with more work and time put into the metadata the better the product will become.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All our assets are in one central repository, making it easy for users to find what they need and allowing them to mine the wealth of assets, regardless of where they are kept on our servers. The facial recognition tool is fantastic at embedding personal identification into assets. We no longer have to look by sight to pull a photo. Being able to search across all assets by keyword is an absolute game-changer.
Orange Logic is a Tremendous Support to the BoeingImages.com Operation
What do you like best about the product?
Orange Logic has supported the BoeingImages.com site for several years and can honestly say that we've encountered minimal user issues using the OL platform. The Orange Logic team is fantastic! Not only do they respond to our inquires and concerns in a very timely manner, but they also provide feedback for changes and upgrades that will enhance the user experience. The platform has performed so well for BoeingImages.com that other areas of The Boeing Company have adopted Orange Logic for their business function. A huge Thank You to Ryan and Katie for all that you do to support the Boeing account!
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish we could transfer files between internal OL platforms such HDAM to BI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Orange Logic provides a superior level of asset management security which is essential for The Boeing Company. Prior to implementing OL, limited IP protection was in place for assets sent to external parties for use.

Using CORTEX | DAM Will Meet The Needs You Have And Achieve The Goals You Want
What do you like best about the product?
The best part of CORTEX | DAM is the flexibility. Each department within my organization has different business needs. CORTEX | DAM has the flexibility to meet all of them.
What do you dislike about the product?
With a system as flexible as this one, there is very little to dislike, as my concerns and issues are always addressed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to the Cortex |DAM tools and how metadata is handled, our clients can search for content with a degree of accuracy we couldn’t offer before. We’ve also implemented e-commerce to grow our business further and enhance user experience.
We’re also excited about the reports Cortex |DAM offers, which gives us visibility to the site and user performance we’ve not had at this level.

Digital Asset Management Lead
What do you like best about the product?
I love the flexibility of the system and the ability to scale the system up or down depending on our business need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cortex has a multitude of configuration options and functionality, so you need to have clarity in which features you want to roll out first and which you should pause for later phases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've been able to achieve highly scaled workflows and efficiencies through connecting Cortex with many production and tracking tools. Having the ability to do this allowed us to handle heavy workloads without the need to hire additional resources.
Powerful DAM with customizable permissions structure and rights management

Group to individual permissions, folders to single asset permissions.

Can be overly complicated. Many settings so needs someone very familiar to utilize the full aspects of Cortex.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collection of brand assets, photography, and video
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Very powerful DAM with decent API. May have too many functions for smaller groups.
State of the art DAM for photo and image intensive repositories

Good UI and presentation. The solution focus is clear and addresses requirements of enterprise customers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Customisation capabilities are still vaguely communicated. Similarly partnership and developer facilities are not clear
