Best Platform for Rapid Application Development

  • January 10, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
IBM Domino has all the tools (Database, development tools) to rapidly develop applications. You don't need any additional software or tools. It is very easy to develop applications in a short time. The product is mature and stable, and also has backward compatibility. Applications developed in Version 4 still works in version 10.
What do you dislike about the product?
IBM support and marketing was not good for such a great product. With HCL taking over, we expect better support and marketing. HCL should also emphasize Application Development aspects of the product rather than Domino Mail.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We develop CRM, Purchasing, Accounting, Law Office Management, Document Management, Property Management software with the Domino platform. Domino is easy to develop and maintain. Domino Database is very stable, we do not have any problems with customers data held in DOmino Databases.

Great development platform with the ability to manage your PIM

  • December 06, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With Domino your investments in applications will never be lost because of the ability to run 20+ years old applications - which sometimes are business critical - also on the current and extremely modern platform. Other manufacturers aren´t able to claim this possibility.

With the new Domino V10 platform you also are able to access all of your data inside Domino NSF via Node.JS and push them to any frontend you like. Also the new feature called DQL ( Domino Query Language ) gives you the option to get your data with SQL like commands.

And the next great enhancement with Domino V10 is the native Notes Client for iPad ( and hopefully also coming to Android Tablets ) where you can access and work with your applications either online or also offline.

With Notes V10 you get some of the for years requested mail and calendar features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, the weak point of the environment is the client but like multiple times mentioned by HCL the Domino V10 release is a server oriented release with some extremely great enhancements. Notes/Domino V11 ( coming in 2019 ) will be a client oriented release and looking back of the speed and professionality of the Dev Team at HCL creating Domino V10 I reach out for V11...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Great benefits because of the RAD platform with all "embedded" microservices coming in one platform. And with the possibility to "attach" all great platforms like SAP, Salesforce and other ones you can have all important informations in one place.

Domino V10 apps help to quickly achieve business goals

  • December 05, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Domino has been and still is one of the easiest ways to build business apps in a secure and modern way. You can choose to run those in the Notes client, in a browser (you prefer) or even now on an iPad without any complex modification. It is a platform to build rapidly applications for your business. And it is MUCH cheaper than MS Sharepoint or SAP.
What do you dislike about the product?
IBM has not done much around IBM Notes/Domino for a while but since the partnership with HCL anybody can trust into the product again
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Domino has no business department or industry target but you can easily build complex workflows and forms without the need of a complex infrastructure. It is available for on-premises use as well as in the cloud without any difference.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Please give it a try. Even if you left it before. It is also available cost-free for development/testing purpose (Community Server).

IBM Domino: The Swiss army knife of application development platforms

  • November 29, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I can create highly functional, highly secure client/server workflow applications in a third of the time it takes my talented colleagues to create them in .NET. Domino development is by far the most rapid application development platform. IBM keeps innovating Domino to allow me to keep up with the evolving state of the art.
What do you dislike about the product?
Every software product has minor bugs but I wish IBM was faster at resolving them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Electronic forms approvals/tracking for HR, Engineering, Quality Control, ISO 9001.
- Web front-end for legacy databases.
- Automatically process invoices sent as email attachments.
- Automatically emails out reports as documents are scanned into a Document Imaging application.
- Corporate email, calendar & directory.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You just can't get more bang for your buck. I do recommend you get a second opinion about which IBM licenses to buy, and how to deploy in your organization, and which apps to develop first to be a quick hit. Find a consultant / mentor with 15+ years experience in Domino to get you off to a good start.

Domino - Best all round business app development & delivery toolset for the modern mobile age

  • November 15, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Comprehensive integrated RAD package for building modern apps for both desktop, mobile & cloud. Apps can be easily integrated to create fully functional business systems such as ERP, CRM, etc and can be linked to IBM Connections for a fully immersive on-line social experience, with the ability to access multiple back-end SQL databases and connect to IBM Watson for AI support. Domino servers can be distributed worldwide, and will automatically synchronise app data across all servers using built-in military grade encrypted communications. It is suitable for SMBs (low entry cost) as well as large enterprise installations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Needs better support for integration with MS-Office suite and PDF files. Needs more flexible printing functionality in native Notes client. Native Notes client is fully functional but does need some modernisation, but this is in development.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently building a fully integrated ERP/MRP system complete with Financials, Payroll, HR, Purchasing, CRM, Inventory Management, Estimating, Order Processing, Production Control, Shipping and Quality Management. Domino supports very fast application development, offers native support on mobile devices, on-premise and cloud environments, and supports fully distributed and replicated applications and servers, full email services and simple administration. Basically, Domino just runs and keeps on running. It is scale-able for SMBs to large enterprise environments. It even supports applications developed in the '90s unchanged!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Although IBM Domino is typically seen as a legacy (and outdated) platform, in fact it is surprisingly modern in its outlook and functionality. It supports NoSQL databases as standard, but can also be fully integrated with standard legacy SQL databases. It provides a comprehensive RAD environment that supports modern programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, HTML5, as well as the original LotusScript and @Formula languages. It is object based, has built-in enterprise level mail services and supports web services. It can be easily integrated with IBM Connections to provide industry leading Web 2.0 social networking services, and supports mobile and clound based deployments. The Notes client runs on Windows and Mac platforms, and Notes applications can run natively on the Apple iPad Pro.
