I have been using Veritas Alta Data Protection for more than 15 years, it has been able to protect any workload I had and I am sure it will protect any I will have in the future. It has been very reliable, always have worked for any restore, and it is contantly being improved with new features to make it most resilient with a lot of features to protect from Ransomware attacks and been able to recover your business really fast if needed. It can protect from physical, to virtual and cloud workloads, and use any storage device you may think, from tapes to disk (with deduplication) and cloud cheap object storage like glacier and similar. Also, if you can use always the same vendor you do not need to worry about migrating LTR backups if you change vendor.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Veritas Alta protects data from various threats like accidental deletion, hardware failures, natural disasters, and even ransomware attacks. It offers backup and recovery capabilities to quickly restore lost data.
Helps reduce costs, saves staff time, and is flexible
What is our primary use case?
We use Veritas Alta Data for data protection, regardless of its location, which can be on-premises, physical, virtual, or cloud-based. Generally, the backup location depends on the databases and the backup issue. Alternatively, a connected backup is sufficient for small, medium, and enterprise clients with a limited number of clients and mostly Microsoft-related workloads, such as SQL Server or Exchange. In this case, we recommend keeping one backup copy locally and one copy in the cloud.
We implemented Veritas Alta Data to protect our data from ransomware.
How has it helped my organization?
Using Veritas Alta Data to copy data from on-premises to the cloud is easy.
Veritas Alta Data is a premium product that requires minimal knowledge to use. It is flexible and can be used on Windows or Linux. With basic knowledge, we can implement the solution without any problems.
Alta Data's immutable storage protects our data from ransomware by making it unchangeable and recoverable.
Alta Data helps provide data protection across multiple cloud environments. The integration is smooth, so we can integrate between AWS, GCP, and Azure to move duplicate data to other locations.
The anomaly detection extension is available in the 10.1 release and can be used for VMware backups. In a future release, it will be available for other workloads.
With the addition of ransomware and anomaly detection to Veritas Alta Data, our clients are more comfortable knowing their data is safe. Alta Data is a premium product that requires minimal knowledge to get started.
Alta Data frees up our staff time because they need to check the system in the morning, and if there are any backup issues, the longest it takes to resolve them is two hours.
Alta Data helps reduce costs by freeing staff time to focus on other projects, saving the organization valuable resources.
What is most valuable?
The ransomware protection feature and anomaly detection are the most valuable, and the ability to integrate new cloud workloads is also valuable.
What needs improvement?
Alta Data should be made more user-friendly, and a video tutorial should be created to help new users understand how to configure and use the solution properly. The existing documentation is over 1,000 pages long, which can be time-consuming to read through.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veritas Alta Data for almost ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of Alta Data has significantly increased since 2020.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Alta Data is scalable and has the flexibility to work with multiple storage solutions.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we used Dell PowerProtect Data Manager. With the Dell PowerProtect Data Manager central console, we can restore data from a central console. With Alta Data, we can only restore data through the client and we need the correct password to do so. With Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, we can perform local and alternate recovery. No scripts are required for SAP HANA, which is not the case with Alta Data.
How was the initial setup?
The initial deployment is straightforward if we know the required steps. Otherwise, it can be time-consuming to follow the documentation, but even then, it is not complex.
First, I will check the compatibility of the system and design the components that are required by the customer. Once the design is complete, we will implement the system in a hierarchical order, starting with the media servers. Finally, we will install the reporting tool so that reporting can be done later. Reporting is not as important in the initial stages, so we need to prioritize the other tasks first.
One person is enough for the deployment.
What was our ROI?
Other backup solutions require contacting multiple vendors when something goes wrong with the storage, but Alta Data provides a single-vendor solution, saving our customers money.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Veritas Alta Data is now offering subscription-based plans with multiple licensing options.
Alta Data is 20 percent more expensive compared to the competition.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Veritas Alta Data eight out of ten.
I recommend Veritas Alta Data for larger and more complex environments. First, check the compatibility with the number of platforms to ensure they are supported. This way, we can avoid unnecessary expenditures.
The number of people required to maintain the solution is determined by the number of servers and locations. We have 17 people managing 1,000 servers per day.
Before purchasing any backup solution, make sure it is compatible with the existing systems and meets business needs.
Good data and ransomware protection with helpful support
What is our primary use case?
I have multiple virtual machines, physical machines, an SaaS workload, and some of the cloud workflows as well. There are also DBs, such as SQL, Mongo, and SAP HANA. I use the solution for backups.
How has it helped my organization?
NetBackup is kind of an enterprise-level solution. We are dealing with enterprise issues such as continuous data protection, et cetera.

It is rather easy to replicate data across your cloud environment using this solution once you've done it a few times.
The solution's flexibility in its deployment and recovery options is very easy.
Veritas helps provide data protection across multiple cloud environments effectively. It's the best solution.
In terms of the solution's anomaly detection extensions, we have some set of policies. According to that, and as per the organization's requirement, we have plans to protect our solution and this anomaly detection is effective for that. It helps protect our data.
Overall, Veritas is great and the services we get from the OEM have been excellent.
It's my understanding that the solution has helped our organization consolidate tools and applications, however, I don't have too much information on the process.
The solution helped free up staff for other projects. The time we've saved has been very good. It's better compared to other tools.
It's helped us reduce our costs for backup and recovery.
What needs improvement?
The solution is improving every day. The development team is doing great work.
If you have never replicated data across your cloud environment before, if you are a new user, the process can be difficult and has a learning curve.
Maybe a year and a half ago, during a backup, I had an updating issue with Java. We opened a ticket with the Veritas technical team. We saw that in the forum as well multiple people were having the same problem. Within one and a half months this issue was rectified. If you have concerns with the product, you can work with the team. They are flexible with customers.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for two years. The solution was also already deployed before I joined the organization.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is great. I'd rate stability nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is very flexible in terms of deployment and recovery times.
All of the data we use is connected to the network. They are immutable. We use, for example, Data Domain and Veritas appliances. Any kind of backup can be imported.
It's good at providing data protection across multiple cloud environments. However, we are just testing it for small amounts of data. So far, it's been very easy.
We have a clustered master server and geographic clouds, and it keeps the data very safe. It's easy to manage it. We can switch over to a disaster site very easily.
It's helped us consolidate from other tools and applications.
The solution frees up our staff for our employees. It helps us save time. We've saved more than 20% per day as we try to use automation capabilities. Many processes and APIs are automated and that saves us from manual work.
We've saved a lot of costs related to backup and recovery.
What needs improvement?
It would be nice if reporting was a bit easier. On the newer version, Veritas reports are difficult. We are using the report tool and it's so hard to create any report.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for a long time. I've used it for 15 years or so.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. I'd rate it nine out of ten. We use a geographic cluster and it's mostly stable.

The scalability is very good. I'd rate it ten out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
Sometimes we do need professional help from our support. I'd like to see more support in our time zone. Sometimes we have problems accessing professionals on the support team. Sometimes we have to wait a long time, which isn't acceptable as we work with a financial company and problems are often an emergency.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did previously use EMC Networker and CA Bright Store. We switched as this product covers all of our needs.
How was the initial setup?
The initial deployment was very easy.
It's a good idea to do some planning before beginning. You need a plan you can follow step by step. That's always our team strategy. Before we start, we have a plan, check it with everyone, and then move through the process. We might be planning the operation for two months. However, we often work with big domains. It's often a big operation for us.
We tend to have four people handling the deployment. We can handle big environments and multiple locations.
There is maintenance required once it is implemented. A minimum of two people tend to be required to maintain the solution.
What about the implementation team?
In the beginning, we may have used an integrator, however, now we are comfortable with the process and procedures and can manage it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't have any insights in relation to the pricing.
What other advice do I have?
I'm a customer and end-user. We have various setups. Some are on the cloud, some are a hybrid.
One of our policies, when we are working with the bank, is to use other tools and not just one.
I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. I trust the product. It's reliable. I like working with it. I'd invite others to work with it as well.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Microsoft Azure
