SimScale Initially For Flow

  • August 06, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SimScale is intuative and quick. I have compared it to other software packages and whatusually takes days has been widdled down to less than an hour. My dedicated Customer Support person (Luis Goncalves) has been extremely helpful when I do run into issues. That fact that SimScale is cloud-based allows me to work on other things while a simulation is running whithout having to worry about bogging down my system. The initial use was for flow simulations. However, I find myself using it for structural simulations as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have run into times where there will be something wrong with the model and/or mesh where SimScale will restart and then sit stalled for hours unless I cancel the simulation. This happens more on the flow side of things. If it is that large of a process, I would rather see SimScale fail then use up my Core Hours.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SimScale is helping me find unexpecting leakage in our valves and dampers. It is also helping me build more structurley sound parts to handle harsher applications.

Easy to use online simulation

  • July 17, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to import CAD files from local storage or online (I use Onshape for example). Even when the CAD is imported, the editing tools on SimScale are good enough to modify anything to match what it wants for the simulation to run.

There is a good spectrum of simulation methods and types, and they are easy to setup and run. For my use, I have students running simulations, and the fact that I can access their models online makes troubleshooting and verifying them easier than trying to send files back and forth.
What do you dislike about the product?
Online obviously has its downsides if you don't have internet access to view and run the model. Help/tutorials are a little lacking so setting some simulations up for the first time can lead to errors until you poke around in the various settings for a bit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easy CFD/FEA analysis for university project teams. The students on the team can collaborate at the same time, and I as the instructor can review, without any of us having to pass files around or work on the same computer.

Easy to start, hard to master. I just started CFD and i've felt super comfortable with this platform

What do you like best about the product?
lots of guides and very intuitive interface. Customer care has been super-supportive and the guides are easy to reach. very approachable post-process with good depth
What do you dislike about the product?
there's practically no middle ground between the easy automatic controls and the super in-depth ones. you either trust the sistem or feel lost if you'r not expert. given that is a cloud based system, when you get errors, sometimes you feel like you're dealing with a black box
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
ease of use CFD for aerodynamic development with tons of depth

What do you like best about the product?
I like the best its browser-based structure, fast workflow and good overview over the project. Customer support is very helpful and responsive.
What do you dislike about the product?
I saw acoustic module was available in the past. Would be great to re-introduce it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Aerodynamics, heat transfer, pressure drop at internal flows.

Efficient and great for collaboration

What do you like best about the product?
I think that SimScale's primary strength is the fact that we're able to run CFD simulations entirely in the cloud! This means that it's very easy to work on projects with other people as we can share our work very easily and it takes the computing stress of CFD off of our hardware. Additionally, customer support has been very responsive when we ask for help.
What do you dislike about the product?
Overall, I wish the CAD feature in SimScale was a little more user-friendly. Right now, it's a little difficult to work with so we usually have to be pretty careful about having our models CFD-ready in our own CAD software before putting them into SimScale.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SimScale is very useful to us because I do work with it primarily in an extracurricular club on my college campus. Not every member can afford to buy a very nice computer to be able to run CFD simulations, so SimScale allows any of our members to work on simulations from their own device. This also means that all our progress is stored in the cloud and we can share it amongst team members very quickly.

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use and hassle free integration, no need to download apps/drivers, etc. Great customer support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the results take time to load and lag a bit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thermal analysis, helps learn which part of the design is over heating and need cooling, etc.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that there is an active forum which responds quickly to queries and helps users out.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes i feel it's not as accurate as Ansys
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is benefitting me by all simulation related work. I use it to run my team's simulations for FSAE and we will be designing our front wings for the very first time, thanks to SimScale.

Perspective from a student

  • July 15, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to use and good looking user interface. The manual makes the interpretation of the data clear. The ability to import from Onshape is useful as it is what is used most at my univeristy.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the modal analysis there isn't an option to do a free body. Quite alot of the tutorials online are outdated and aren't relevant or aren't as easy to translate into the new user interface/ features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SimScale allows me to conduct modal analysis and FEA on a structure which is what is needed for my university projects. Not only does it have visual graphics but I can also export graphs, plots and data.

Excellent for those looking for cloud-based simulation!

  • July 15, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SimScale has a user-friendly interface which makes it very conveniently for those who are relatively new for simulations. The fact that users can perform simulations entirely within their web browser and it doesn't require any local installation or dedicated hardware makes it amazing. Besides, detailed documentations and several tutorials are available for additional assistance to users; and, their customer support is excellent too!
What do you dislike about the product?
Everything looks great and there is really nothing I dislike so far!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have a hardware limitation to perform large-scale simulations and SimScale enabled me to run the simulations easily since it is entirely web-based and doesn't require any local installation or dedicated hardware.
