Fast searching API for anything!

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Algolia has easy implementation and easy data management. The searching is fast and it allows your users to find things quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not found anything that I dislike yet. Pricing is good and worth it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We allow users to search for careers, skills, open jobs, and projects internally at their company that they work at. We needed an easy search api so that employees could find opportunity. Algolia enables users to quickly find what they need. Additionally, the analytics gives us insight on what and how people search so that we can constantly improve our searching. Also, there are so many packages offered in terms of replication to make sure that data isn't lost. There is a huge community too around using their plugins like instantsearch that will help you really get started.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easiest search api out there. Everything else is harder to use.

Algolia for blogs

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It’s a better way to search our site, our audience is able to locate relevant pieces of our content even if those pages were created 4 years ago.
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup process was not very easy, although algolia was responsive to emails and did help us set it up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to track what new content we should create and see what old content people are searching for

So far, so good

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Faceting and speed. Faceting has improved user experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
Customization limitations on filters, for instance for array. The object index size is a worrying factor, which it should not be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Moving our search to Algolia has saved a lot of power consumption on our server side.

Best outsourcing decision

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to setup and easy to operate and maintain. They even give you a free javascript library that they maintain. The free tier is nice for trying out.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing I can think of, so far it's a good experience
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We don't have enough manpower to implement a commodity such as search. Even if we had the engineering pool, it makes no sense to implement a commodity feature such as search when something as cheap as Algolia exists

Great product, being a customer for months now, just needs cheaper plans

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Service overall works great. But would like that custom sorting didn't need to duplicate the index and count towards the plan limit.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still some clients don't like to commit US$ 35 for a search service. For a client that pays ~US$ 30 for a hosting, it is understandable they don't want to double the hosting cost because of the search.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Advanced search on 7000+ posters, including search by color: https://www.typographicposters.com/?r=255&g=0&b=0

Super fast search, bit basic in features

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The speed, the ease of development, the dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is (apart from the speed) quite unsophisticated. The entire model is geared to get you to pay more, more, more; which is a bit sad. Bug reports are countered with "we can only fix that on an enterprise server" (which is $1500+ per month).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving documentation search.
It is amazingly fast, which helps with refinement of the search query.

Impressive technology

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We installed Algolia and got it working with minimal fuss. The technology is what they use on ProductHunt, so you knw that it is battle tested.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing is slightly higher than expected, but we're happy with the service overall. We may be on a higher tier than is necessary, but needed some of the additional features because of the size of the data set.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Discovery on a large site is difficult-- Algolia helps users better surface our content.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Adds value to users, doesn't require a huge IT lift We were able to get it working quickly, but needed some help in figuring out exactly how to configure the individual search databases.

We look around at more complex open source solutions, but realized that we would have to spend more money on the actual implementation..

The least expensive engineer on our team

  • April 12, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Incredibly fast, easy to use. Very configurable and transparent in usage. Great documentation. Never have to deal with ElasticSearch.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Places API isn't very robust.
- Limited to 1000 records per page.
- Expensive for lots of operations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are building a marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of internet infrastructure products and services.

The search experience of our site is powered by Algolia's autocomplete. Our map is powered by Mapbox, with data coming from Algolia as well.

Working with Algolia takes away so many pain points that we don't have to think about search algorithms or other problems startups like us face.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is the easiest Search as a Service platform I have encountered as a front-end developer. Query JSON arrays with ease. Look no further!

Using Algolia for search throughout our system

  • April 12, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of use. it took us no time to integrate our entities to algolia and use the api for search everywhere we needed to.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can't point at anything that we don't like with the system.
one small thing is that you can't dispose a search while it's running (client side)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Speed and rich solution for search, doing it ourselves would have taken much more time with reduced functionality

Working as expected: incredibly easy integration, relevant results, quick searches.

  • April 12, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The amount of work that goes into maintaining and publishing Developer-focus documentation is great. Integrating was super simple because of how well they know how to speak to technical people.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maintaining configuration sync amongst indices is not easy. I have many indices that all need to work in the same way (prioritization, synonyms, etc), and they each need to be configured and updated individually. Having common index configuration that can be shared is something that you can only do programatically, but this means you can no longer use the web interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ecomm search in a luxury retail startup was not our first concern. We spend time on curating vintage products, photography, and focusing on brick-and-mortar stores. Sync'ing our product catalog up with Algolia and implementing their front-end JS helper meant we got up and running with instant search across our entire catalog in a matter of hours.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the Free Trial, you have nothing to lose. You can probably get an MVP up and running in a matter of hours.
