SOVOS-Complicated Tasks Made Easy
What do you like best about the product?
SOVOS allows me to be 100% confident in our reporting for Sales and Use Tax. The website is easy to navigate and the files are easy to download. SOVOS is customer-focused.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing at this time that I could say does not work for me and our company when speaking about SOVOS. We have used the product for many years, and it has always been reliable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are registered in every state and even internationally. SOVOS allows me to be confident that the tax rates that we are charging our Fortune 500 companies are accurate and always updated.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend using SOVOS.

Assistance with monthly filing, data troubleshooting, and notice responses!
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be great if notice team were a bit quicker to resolve or respond to comments, as they tend to be time sensitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
They are helping us with all our state sales tax filings across our three companies! It would be extremely labor-intensive to handle these in-house, as we have a filing requirement in almost all 50 states across the three companies, so that would be up to 150 returns each month! Sovos has helped streamline that process and keep the internal work to a minimum.

The case system for asking questions and getting issues resolved is clunky
There is a slight learning curve but once you know what you need to do its pretty simple.

The color scheme is easy to look at and it is pretty easy to navigate.

I do wish the pages were a little more user-friendly.
I find that there are a lot of "things" on the page that you may not be using and can be confusing.

We use Sovos for handling our tax issues. It is helpful in keeping all the tax information in once simple place .

What do you like best about the product?
Sovos has accurate database for sales tax rates and taxability. The initial implementation process was comprehensive and thorough with lots of support from their team.

How different Sovos products work together.

US sales and use tax filing. It's efficient and accurate. Our team uses it to generate returns for the states every month and haven't had much issues at all. We rely on Sovos a great deal.
Newly Implemented with Sovos - Heavy usage of GTD and Cert Manager
What do you like best about the product?
I like the connectivity between GTD and Cert Manager which is why we choose SOVOS to handle our tax needs. We work with a large amount of exemption certificates that the credit department was manually dealing with until we started using SOVOS.
What do you dislike about the product?
It seems like the Cert Manager platform is still evolving to meet customer requirements. The email system could be better. If you could directly connect via API to email links to your customer list, the tool would be a lot more efficient for our credit department. Right now, uploading certs can be a very manual process. I'd like to see this improved in the future.
I also wish I had more control over the users. Anytime I need to add or make changes I have to open a case, even as the administrator on the account.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving a few problems. 1) GTD allows us to be hands-off with tax tables, 2) Cert Manager is keeping us more organized and prepared for an audit should one happen, 3) we are using SOVOS to file all our returns so our AR team no longer needs too.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Sovos is a big company, so unless you are paying extra for a support plan after implementation, know that you will be dumped into a case management file if you have issues. They have also made API changes without alerting us that we had to troubleshoot ourselves. The solution is good, but their customer communication on technical changes could improve vastly.

What do you like best about the product?
Tax return automation is essential for a large corporation. We've been in partnership with Sovos for many years, we've supported and assisted each other with the advancement of the software as it stands today. In 2011 we partnered with Sovos to help establish more goods and service codes for the medical device industry. We've had an excellent relationship through the years as we've worked together to create a seamless process for our tax filings.
What do you dislike about the product?
In recent years the helpdesk/portal has not always had the same quality of support as we came to enjoy in the past. Many of my colleagues within the business would agree. In addition, we purchases some software that didn't work out that resulted in many man hours wasted.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's essential for a business with multiple jurisdictions that sell items with different taxability to manage their sales by having sales tax automation to keep track of continual changes. The effort required to maintain compliance in a few states is vastly different when you do business in most U.S. and Canada. Selling into more countries adds a whole new level of complexity; without automation, it's almost impossible.

* The reporting tool is a work in progress and sometimes you cannot get the information you need easily

* Had an antiquated tax engine - actually 2 to allow for taxation in all our jurisdictions. SOVOS GTD allowed for the consolidation of tax engines into one.

Long Time Customer
What do you like best about the product?
STS and outsourcing the sales tax returns. I don't have a tax department, and we file returns in almost every state. If I receive a notice from a state regarding an error or payment deficiency, I send it to Sovos, and they do the research and correct the problem. I have a good working relationship with my sales tax preparer.
In addition to the time savings, outsourcing the returns is less expensive than adding a full-time employee. I have been using this service since 2009 and over the years have had several sales tax audits. To date, I have not had an audit with any material findings.

What do you dislike about the product?
Occasional quirky system issues. For example, last month I could not run a transaction detail report. I will say that Tech Support has always been quick to solve any issues that I may encounter.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are in the process of moving from on-premise to the cloud. At the same time, we are installing an Oracle patch to replace the system transaction ID number with a customer invoice number on the monthly transaction report. Currently, I run the transaction detail and then send it to my IT department. IT then has to run an SQL query to match the system ID number to an invoice number. I need to know the invoice number in the event something needs to be investigated down the road.
