Secure File Sharing and Data Governance for Modern Teams

  • July 18, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte strikes a rare balance between ease of use and robust security. Its hybrid cloud model is particularly impressive — it allows businesses to seamlessly combine on-premise file servers with cloud storage, which is perfect for organizations that need to manage large files or comply with strict data residency requirements.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing Can Be High for Small Teams
While Egnyte offers enterprise-level features, the pricing structure may feel expensive for startups or small businesses, especially if they don't fully use the advanced governance tools.
Steeper Learning Curve for Admins
The admin panel is powerful but can be overwhelming at first. Setting up user permissions, managing compliance templates, or configuring hybrid deployment requires some technical understanding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Egnyte solves the problems of secure file access, data sprawl, compliance management, and remote collaboration, which benefits me by providing a centralized, controlled, and compliant platform to store, share, and manage files efficiently across teams, locations, and devices.

What do you like best about the product?
Secure file sharing internally and externally, with role-based access controls. Egnyte scans files for sensitive content (like PII, HIPAA, GDPR data) and helps classify it automatically.
What do you dislike about the product?
Uploading/downloading very large files (e.g., media or CAD) can be slow depending on network and location.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Works well with a wide variety of business apps (Salesforce, Autodesk, DocuSign, etc.).

Egnyte Holding Customer Data Hostage for $1,285—A Cautionary Tale for MSPs

  • June 16, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte’s support staff have consistently been professional, knowledgeable, and easy to communicate with. I appreciated being able to speak with someone fluent in English who understood technical issues without requiring multiple handoffs. That part was a plus.

Ease of use was decent, but not anything special. I can get the same with Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox.
What do you dislike about the product?
Where do I begin? The biggest issue came when I needed short-term access to a single account for one of my customers. Egnyte refused, unless we paid for an entire year of service—$1,285.92—just to get two hours of access. That’s not flexibility, that’s extortion. We offered to pay a reasonable fee for limited access, but Egnyte wouldn’t budge.

Another major frustration: there is no free or included admin account. You must burn a paid license for even the most basic administrative access. As an MSP managing accounts for clients, this is a serious limitation.

Ease of Implementation and Inegration: Not terrific. I had to touch each user's computer to get the Egnyte client installed. Also, the client is unstable, but to be fair, the OneDrive client isn't very stable either.

Recommendations to others considering Egnyte:
If you're a managed service provider or you value fair business practices, think carefully. There are other platforms out there with more flexible policies and pricing that don't hold your data hostage. Dropbox is excellent and you can get a BAA. Same goes for OneDrive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Egnyte solves the problem of centralized, secure file storage and access control, especially for businesses that need to meet strict compliance requirements (HIPAA, FINRA, etc.). It provides a hybrid option that works well for companies transitioning away from on-prem file servers but still needing local sync and offline access. There was a time, just a few years ago this was something special. Not so today, there are plenty of other choices out there that can meet and exceed your compliance requirements.

For my clients, especially in healthcare and construction, Egnyte helps by:

Enabling remote work without sacrificing security

Giving fine-grained access control to folders and files

Offering audit trails and DLP tools to meet compliance needs

Integrating with tools like Microsoft 365 while offering more control than OneDrive or Google Drive, but just barely.

That said, the benefits are undercut by rigid pricing and licensing models. The lack of a true admin license and the refusal to offer limited access options significantly reduce its value—especially for MSPs managing accounts across multiple clients.

Excellent Tool for Cloud Sharing and Storing

  • June 10, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it integrates seamlessly with file explorer, and that it's easy to share files or folders and customize who has access to them. I do use it everyday as all of my work files are stored in Egnyte.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only item I would like is to be able to customize sharing options directly from file explorer instead of having to go to the webb app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cloud storage and sharing of project files.

What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte excels at helping companies manage, protect, and secure their data, offering features like sensitive data discovery, ransomware detection, extensive audit trails, and compliance workflows for various industry standards (HIPAA, CMMC 2.0, etc.). It provides granular user permissions and reporting on data sharing.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the platform offers many settings, some advanced features like creating custom expressions for "Secure and Govern" tools are limited, requiring reliance on pre-defined options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Egnyte offers a good number of integrations with popular business applications like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Teams, and Slack, enhancing its utility as a central content hub.
