An amazing piece of technology
What do you like best about the product?
The persistence of the Absolut agent. Having the ability to re-install itself even after a theft is unparalleled. The reports cover just about everything you could ever want to know about your assets. Geolocation is also an amazing way to know where all your assets are. Very happy to work with their success manager who has been a great resource.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface could still use a little polishing. I find some of the workflows to be slow, especially when I am searching multiple devices. I end up opening asset info in multiple tabs to keep my spot. If you don't, you end up having to re-enter your search. This is such a minor thing though. From a service desk perspective, it would be great to have some TeamViewer like functionality to provide remote support to our staff.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been able to use geolocation to recover stolen devices which also lead to the arrest of a theft ring. The reports have also made it easy to manage our fleet of almost 30,000 desktops and laptops including planning upgrades and replacements.
Vital in recovering "lost" equipment
What do you like best about the product?
The key to this service is the Persistence Module! A client had some DR laptops mysteriously disappear from their off-site storage and for almost a year we saw no activity in the Absolute console, until one day one of the machines checked in. We were able to take a look at the folder structure & files to see that whoever had it had wiped the OS and reinstalled Windows, but had copied some of their work data onto it, and from there, in conjunction with tracing their IP, we were able to figure out who took them. It turned out that the person had taken all the missing laptops, and we were able to recover them all, and were able to go through internal HR channels to do it, without getting law enforcement involved.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Absolute dashboard is a little primitive, but it gets the job done. I wish there were some more integrated scripts that allowed the uploading of device data to an FTP site of our choosing. It's possible to script that out, but it's not elegant and can also tip off the person in possession of the device that the transfers may be occurring.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our client has been able to recover missing assets, and that is a huge benefit as the cost of the devices far, far exceeded the entire sum of the absolute service for ALL devices that were registered.

The ability to remote wipe, remote lock/freeze, remote inventory, geolocate - what isn't there to like?

There's really not anything that I can say that I dislike.

Most recently the ability to remote inventory machines and to be able to remove data if necessary.

Locking computers with a message and survives everything other than a motherboard change.

I wish I could just have a credit card on file to add and remove licenses without having to use a middle-man to order.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We already have the computers encyrpted with BitLocker, so we just needed a way to lock the computer as well to keep them fully protected. The side feature of using their "self healing" BitLocker option is just a bonus.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I only know of two choices of products to lock a computer even after a person wipes it. It's to use Absolute with a supported motherboard, or use Microsoft Intune. Absolute works with all operating systems. Intune can only lock a computer to being used with one company if someone tries to install Windows 10 on it.
Great Product
What do you like best about the product?
Detailed interface, alerting on indicators of compromise (encryption changes, device ownership, last used, etc).
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that I don't have enough time to use the product like I want to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Assurance of salvation ..seriously..device assurance. In healthcare, it's important to KNOW that your devices are configured the way you need them to be and you have a means of verifying it and also recovering these devices. We're also looking at taking advantage of some of the powerful aspects of Absolute such as running scripts remotely...<-- lots of operational and security possibilities here.

I really like the break down of my devices all in one application. I like how I can break down the devices by OS.

I do not have a dislike about the application., except I wish I had been using it before this year.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am solving some inventory control for take home devices. The primary benefit is being able to monitor student devices and be able to track the device if the need arises.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for an application to monitor and track devices, Absolute is for you. If you need the ability to lock or freeze a device, Absolute is for you.

The newer layout takes a bit more to navigate then the classic view

We have used Absolute to track devices that have gone missing within our system as well as ones we know were taken. This has allowed us to drastically flip the numbers of recovered devices which has help cut down our costs.
