Strong community with limited issues and prompt updates

  • December 13, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
security patches are released same day as the issue is seen in most cases

strength of kernel, maturity of the platform
What do you dislike about the product?
redhat 7 systemd changes a lot of workflows, new syntax takes time to get used to
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
redhat is the platform to host business critical application

the OS itself is very robust, and is almost never the root cause of any issues

Great supportable Linux platform

  • December 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
RedHat has a first rate support organization and a platform that is stable. The attention to keeping the platform stable and enterprise ready is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
The costing structure to RedHat is a bit of a problem and really should be looked at by the organization moving forward. I feel like lower the entry point will make it a more adopted platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a stable Linux distribution for the enterprise that we could purchase manufacturer support for. This allowed us to reduce the expertise required and thus lowering our cost because we could rely more heavily on the vendor support.

Great quality that I recommend

  • November 30, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Red hat was used at my previous position daily. The open source support and compatibility with all applications our team used was impressive and ideal. Never had any problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Using red hat Linux does take some getting used to, especially if you're a Microsoft only kind of person. It doesn't take long to feel confident though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My application was in defense and space with the programming of the different pieces in a military contact.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I definitely recommend others to look into red hat Enterprise Linux for their needs (with a real consideration towards their team's capability and strengths).

The best server operating system every created

  • November 03, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The operating system is rock solid and versatile. It can run for months with the most minimal of TLC (trust me I have done it). It comes with everything you need to run a basic website, a LAMP site, or a standalone database just by installing a few extra pieces of software that automatically come with the distribution. Just looking for a better desktop, okay; just put it at run level 5 and you have it. I have been using it for ten years for everything from database and web hosting to filling out surveys on my laptop.
What do you dislike about the product?
Finding affordable training is very difficult. In fact, in my experience the only training provide for Red Hat Linux is the main vendor and the resellers. There is not much, if any, wiggle room on the price.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used Red Hat Linux as the back bone for core business infrastructure and have seen a high ROI in the way of uptime and overall stability. One system that was migrated from Windows to Red Hat had to be rebooted every three days in order to prevent a crash. After the migration, it ran non-stop for an entire month before we just took the system down for patches.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The great thing is you can try it before you buy it. Go to the website, download a trial copy, and play around with it. You will not be disappointed.

RedHat Enterprise Linux is a great resource for support for RedHat Linux

  • October 25, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The online support resources are very good
What do you dislike about the product?
We use the less expensive Academic version, so there is only community support, which is not always as helpful as a live person for certain problems
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We rely on RedHat Linux for our group, so this product allows us to solve many issues we have with their support offering. Their support is substantially better than CentOS.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need support, particularly for complex environments, RHEL is the way to go. However, if you need the latest, cutting edge updates, you may want Fedora. RHEL is usually behind on kernel versions and software packages. It really is mean for Enterprise; those locations that want stability over latest Linux updates.

Great OS for applications

  • August 28, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, stability, updates are easy
What do you dislike about the product?
User interface lacks but KDE is still helpful
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Revenue management, Sales and catering optimization
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take a training class and use it often (use it or lose it)

The most stable Linux for Enterprise

  • August 25, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The most stable Linux distribution
Most of our customers have RHEL deployed so we have to make sure our program runs in their machines.
What do you dislike about the product?
Of course the service but right now I'm registered as a developer to maintain the system by myself
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The cross-platform issue. We have to make sure our programs run on all of our customers' machines. The benefit is our PO.

Solid Linux Distro for Enterprise Use

  • August 16, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One won't find bleeding edge packages in Redhat Enterprise Linux, instead, only tried and true, rock-solid packages will be encounter. When one's primary goal is to build a server that won't fail, this is a good thing. When problems to occur, Redhat support responds quickly to requests and, at times, sent employees to our worksite to provide assistance.

Redhat Kickstart allows one to script OS and application installations so that consistent builds can be rapidly deployed.
What do you dislike about the product?
When a licenses lapses, one can no longer patch the server that the license is assigned to. This can be problematic in an evironment where procurement can be sporadic and/or delayed. That said, Redhat support is excellent and, when I have encountered this issue, Redhat was happy to issue temporary licenses while we waited for procurement to complete. Licensing, at least in the environment I work in, is done on a server by server basis; it would be nice if it was possible to purchase node level licensing so that unlimited Redhat instances could be stood up in a VMWare cluster.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Redhat allows us to reliably host products such as IBM Websphere and DB2 with the knowledge that if assistance is required, it will be available. When using a free Linux distro, one is left to search for answers on their own, but with Redhat Linux, there is comfort in knowing that help is available if needed.

Love RHEL! Great Oracle Solaris replacement

  • July 28, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ext3 FS, NFSV4 support, SSH keys, grepping, able to use with relative ease!
What do you dislike about the product?
Support can be shaky from an enterprise perspective but their communities try to help a lot and provide detailed assistance
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Internal apps, infrastructure configuration, administration, scaling, grid farms, etc
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have 5+ years working on it, try features out, get trained!

Good, solid OS

  • July 24, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Extremely stable, good support, easy to find help online since it's so widely used.
What do you dislike about the product?
Steep learning curve, must know the syntax and be familiar with CLI
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Stable, less micromanagement to keep things running, no weird bugs that seem to pop up all the time in Windows
