great data discoverability tool
What do you like best about the product?
I'm a new hire and user of Select Star. It's enabled me to more quickly onboard and become better familiarized with our data. In my previous org, we had a custom internal tool that served a similar purpose but was way more basic -- just a searchable catalog of tables. Select Star contains that functionality on top of giving insights into data lineages, joins, and usage.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's slightly buggy and slow here and there but not in a way that significantly detracts from my experience using the product. It would also be awesome if we were able to see table snippets or insights into row coverage / distinct values, like is available in Snowsight.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
enabling me to onboard more quickly and answer my own questions around data lineage

Very happy
What do you like best about the product?
The product is very easy to use, and usually self-inituitive. I very much like the lineage depicted on the creation of tables and the connection with Tableau datasources, because any employee (from engineer to C-level exec) can easily trace the path of the information from dashboards to tables and vice versa.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of features for data quality metrics

I like the discussion feature on the items appearing Select Star.

What do you like best about the product?
Select Star gives the best view of data lineage for all the connected tools.
Another important feature was for documenting the metrics and summary which is very useful if multiple teams are working across the company.
The popularity of tables is a very nice feature to determine the most commonly queried table and most commonly used dashboard.

What do you dislike about the product?
There are no major dislikes that we came while working with Select Star
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data Lineage. Select Star helps to unveil the large spaghetti tower of data that we have and helps to understand how the data source and which attribute is affecting the frontend tableau/looker dashboard.
Documentation is another major challenge which can be tackled using Select Star as it has a great feature for auto data cataloguing, and metric documentation.
With these features, 70% of the time can be saved in the identification of problems (if any) and while building new products with data.

Great for deprecation use case & interesting features on documentation
What do you like best about the product?
- The column-level lineage and seeing multiple layers of lineage are super helpful for deprecation use cases.
- They're developing features that'll enable great documentation, which we're really excited about.

What do you dislike about the product?
- Not a ton of downsides, I'd say biggest downside is that it's another tool you need to remember to use / pay for.

Very helpful tool for data exploration and discovery
What do you like best about the product?
Selectstar is super user friendly and fast. Easy for me to navigate our and understand our tables.
What do you dislike about the product?
Navigation can be a bit confusing, but the search bar is great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Select star helps me quickly find and understand data tables and columns. This is especially useful when working with unfamiliar data. Understanding data lineage helps me ensure I'm looking at the right information too.
The tool has great features in addition to an excellent service team to solve complex issues

Some instabilities that occur while using the tool because it is in the development process and the lack of active community

Select Star is helping me with the implementation of data governance in my current company, as well as giving us clarity on all our data flow responsible for generating insights for the company
Easy to use, active innovating, great customer support
What do you like best about the product?
very easy to use. Non-tech people can use and contribute to data catalog.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some improvement can be done (e.g. support lineage for Json fields), but nothing I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It makes Data discovery easy for both tech and non-tech users. With new features like auto annotation, users feel more productive. The popularity feature is super useful for people getting insight into how a table is used. Love to see more such insight (e.g. query performance, estimated snowflake cost) added in the future for users to better optimize the tables and queries.

What do you like best about the product?
One of the best features that has helped our business is being able to see the lineage and determine where the data in our dashboards originates from.
What do you dislike about the product?
I just wish that we could ingest data from more external sources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Select Star helps us understand the evolution of our data and provides a "one stop shop" for the business to find the data they're looking for.

What do you like best about the product?
For us, it was the integration with the tools that we have in our data platform. They had native integrations so it was super quick to integrate and start using Select Star. They are also super responsive in the Slack Channel and quick to resolve issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are still some features that may not be there compared to some of the bigger rival products, but they are pushing out new features at an awesome clip and I think they will begin to start closing that gap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Select Star gives us a central platform to answer questions about the data in our platform. It is super easy for new users to quickly understand the lineage of data.
Select Star helps us save a ton of time on a daily basis! Column level lineage is invaluable!
What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful feature for my team has been the column-level lineage that gives us end-to-end visibility into our pipeline all the way from source to dashboards.
What used to take us 20-30min to do, hopping between different apps, now takes less than 1min and we can do it all within just the Select star UI. This saves a ton of time and prevents a lot of mistakes!

What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing to dislike about Select star! However, I wish there would be some more features around data quality and possibly a home page that lists all newly added tables (for the top 50 maybe) after the last sync with the DW

For us, Select Star is solving many different problems:
- centralized data catalog, accessible to users outside of the Data team
- end-to-end column-level lineage
- helps us establish data owners for different data sets
- helps us track data freshness
- allows for more transparency of the SQL code that powers our data models
