Quick to start, couple of tweaks are needed
What do you like best about the product?
As a user it's easy to get going with the basics of the platform. Full set up including things like field definitions, ownership of items looks as if it will be time consuming for all team members. We are early in our implementation but the AI feature has already been super helpful in finding fields that I don't know the location of inside of snowflake!
What do you dislike about the product?
Things like the popularity or view counts of a dashboard, table etc. seem to be limited to Select Star users. Would be much more beneficial to have popularity (especially for dashboards) be based on actual end user views.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a large data ecosphere including AWS, snowflake, fivetran, dbt, powerbi etc. Keeping these platforms documented and in sync can be challenging. Select Star brings all of that together for us.
Great oversights into complex data warehouse
What do you like best about the product?
I've found it great at surfacing relevant tables and columns from natural language queries. I work with a large data warehouse, and often am consuming tables that have been through many DBTs. It's lineage is a good way to get to the base data without manually reading and following the SQL myself
What do you dislike about the product?
I find that for tables with many dependencies, it's sometimes hard to visualise which parts of the query are resulting in which aspect of the lineage. It also surfaces tables that I don't have read access to in Snowflake when I try to read them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's providing insights into what is available for me to query, and how to debug data when the outcome is not what I anticipate
Straightforward, east to use
What do you like best about the product?
Clean UI that enables fast insights across several of our data tools

Would love for additional functionality, like monitoring and alerting
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Select Star helps us identify data usage both within our data lake and within our BI tools. This ensures we know where are critical assets are. We also leverage the tools when making updates to our data pipelines, to ensure we have a clear view on potential impacts.
Excellent Tool for Data Governance
What do you like best about the product?
Strong tool for building data governance muscles -- AI compatibility, quick feedback/response time from team & speedy incorporation of feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
Small things like sorting & searching functionalities could be improved, but team has been very receptive to feedback & quick to implement. Select Star has been a great partner for our organization as we build a data governance model.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before Select Star, we had little organized data governance at our company & this has helped us build a model that will be sustainable & scalable. It's a great tool & easy to use.
Great tool
What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been using Select Star for a few months now, and it’s become one of the more reliable tools in my data stack. The UI is clean and easy to navigate, and it’s helped me trace column-level lineage across some pretty complex models without having to dig through layers of SQL manually. That alone saves me a lot of time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Select Star’s been useful for lineage and metadata, but it’s not without flaws. The lineage view can get messy with large datasets, and sometimes it’s hard to filter down to what you actually need. The popularity and usage metrics are helpful, but not always accurate. It’s great for surfacing insights, but not something I’d rely on as a source of truth without a second look.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Select Star helps solve the problem of data discoverability and tribal knowledge. Before, it was hard to know which tables were actually being used, who owned them, or how things were connected without asking around or digging through SQL. Now I can quickly trace lineage, see usage stats, and figure out what’s safe to change or deprecate. It’s especially helpful for reducing back-and-forth when onboarding new team members or answering ad hoc requests.

What do you like best about the product?
One of the standout features is the column-level lineage. It’s incredibly powerful and allows me to trace data flows with precision, which has been invaluable for ensuring data quality and accuracy in my work.

Nothing, it perfectly meets my needs daily.

SelectStar provides better visibility into data dependencies, enabling proactive responses to changes that could impact business reporting.

Very easy to use lineage, data discovery and documentation tool

Can sometimes can be a little slow to load.

I use select star on a daily basis. I find it to be very useful for data discovery.

It makes navigating our complex data model substantially easier.

Nothing comes to mind. Curious to see what they build in the future.
