Good analytics for BIG data
What do you like best about the product?
Cognos is a really useful, powerful platform that can handle a LOT of data and gives you the freedom to organize and compare data in many different ways. I can look at trends in data over different years, quarters, months, etc, and I can also compare across departments at my company depending on how I query the data.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a fairly steep learning curve when using Cognos. It isn't always very intuitive, but lots of that has to do with how your company sorts and organizes their data. Also, there isn't a great way to visualize the data other than by using numbers. It isn't great at helping outsiders understand the information quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to find trends, answer specific questions that department heads have, and track expenses, budgets, basically any data that we want to. As long as the people who need the answers understand the basic information at our company, Cognos does a great job of helping everyone move forward with better information.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're expecting Cognos to be like Tableau or other data visualization software, this isn't for you. It's good at handling BIG data and keeping track of thousands of lines of information, but it doesn't do much to visualize it. It can present it in numeric forms and

Search options, Updated Interface, Modern Charts, easy to manage.
What do you dislike about the product?
Admin Tab is still old school. It can be improved, especially in terms of monitor.

Financial reporting, Operations reporting, Customer reporting, Cubes

It is really useful for peeling back layers of data to filter to one's specific needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is hard to get used to and not incredibly user friendly at first.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to manipulate my company's data to ensure there is equity with staffing. We are then able to adjust anywhere we need to.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take time to get to know the product and its various functions, like cubes. Once you become familiar it gets much easier to use and find the data you need.

What do you like best about the product?
Today's changing world requires agile solutions that help us anticipate in order to improve our business productivity. Cognos is one of the easiest Business Intelligence tools to use due to its intuitive user interface, easy to navigate, and with which we can create dashboards and infographics and generate professional reports that we can export in multiple documents, such as Excel spreadsheets. Decision-making has never been so easy, based on an analysis of data models extracted from hundreds of records, providing the necessary solutions to answer the most difficult business questions, finding patterns, while reducing costs. Another great advantage is the flexibility and scalability of the application for SMEs.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are many bugs in the tool. It requires a very costly investment for your company. It is a very heavy tool that requires a lot of disk space for the OLAP database. If you are ready to invest in the platform, this would be a very good decision. We have improved in decision-making, in the agility of the business process, and in relationships with customers and suppliers. The time to market is reduced.

I totally recommend it, as long as you can afford the investment, because it significantly improves productivity, allows you to create reports, perform analysis of the collected data, and in a short time it will help you make the best business decisions for your company, while also increasing the quality of customer interactions.

Comprehensive Analytics & Reporting Solution
What do you like best about the product?
I like the way IBM has unified its reporting tools with a dashboarding, reporting, and modeling interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
Errors that are generated could be better-explained.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using Cognos Analytics on-prem, we're using a governed central source of truth (single FM model off of an EDW for back-office data) to combine information from several areas in our Oracle data used in a wide array of reports.
