What do you like best about the product?
THe cognos applications wore very rich and powerfull with great covernance skils.
What do you dislike about the product?
The aplication has stoped in time for several years. while other brands started to be self service, the cognos remain focused only in theis governance skills, and the visual has not inprouved for a long time. nos its getting a little bit better, but maybe, the time has passed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
data vizualization and basic reporting

If you have the need for a strong governance, it may be the right toll.
Full spectrum BI tool
What do you like best about the product?
Enterprise ready full spectrum BI tool. Good controls and metadata management and modelling.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be slow get get managed data in and start basic reporting
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Customer invoices and itemised billing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider cloud based implementation for faster ROI

Simplicity. The product works great and wonderful product integration with Data. The search is powerful and visualizations are great..
What do you dislike about the product?
Not exactly dislike. Too many powerful features and not organized as story books. If they were guidewires or guide by examples, that would have been wonderful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are moving our data into cloud and need to do plenty of data standardization. IBM Cognos quickly helps us, without writing queries, figure out our data, anomalies in the dimensions and the data distribution.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Plan pretty well and know the features, power and tricks before you take other products' comparison stories. Those products cannot meet the meta data management or, automated queries of IBM Product. They are no where near.

it is still a legacy tool compared to what is on the market

self service anakytics. Need to be able to guage the proper number of registered users which all seem to be combined into two buckets

Ability to generate and distribute a large amount of reports across the corporation
What do you dislike about the product?
The visualizations are not on par with other products. With each release the dashboarding products change

Provide a platform for the user base to access the Warehouse
Simple and User friendly to meet end user needs

Simple user friendly dashboard interface and the power it gives to end user to explore data
What do you dislike about the product?
With move to Cognos Analytics 11 lot of user interfaces changed drastically that needed extra end user training.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cognos dashboard has been a great addition and now lot of enhanced consumers are able to answer many of their questions themselves. With drillthrough capability added in 11.0.13 that will also allow them to get detailed data that contributes to charts.

Simple and powerful end user data exploration tool
Need to provide portal view of content

Full interactive reports that were introduced with Cognos Analytics 11. They give more control to users in analyzing/filtering their report data.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that portal pages were removed in CA11. They still work but there is no mechanism to modifying them or add more portal pages / portlets.

What do you like best about the product?
Enterprise BI at its best drawing on 40+ years of Enterprise BI experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
Perceived as old school and ownded by IT, but now available in the Cloud using advanced AI technologies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid BI from operational reporting to adhoc query. Easy self-service and guided analytics.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you've not taken a look at Cognos in a few years - make sure you do now!!! It's come a long way from the days of Series 7, now incorporating the benefits of Watson Analytics (RIP).
Cognos is a great reporting tool
What do you like best about the product?
IBM Cognos Dashboard Embedded is a great reporting tool. It allows you to view reports and information that normally would be too large and timely to digest.
What do you dislike about the product?
The creation is a little difficult, but overall, it is a great product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This allows you to manipulate big data into reports that management actually wants to look at.
