The Monte Carlo experience from a blue ocean user

  • April 24, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about Monte Carlo is the intuiative GUI. Wiithin minutes you can create data metrics for every field, or combination of sql joining commands, or even dimension mapping. In prior tools, accomplishing these tasks would have taken days.
Another positive is the way that the MC team listens to problems and seeks to address issues within the next release or so.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the biggest drawback is how tables in a schema are charges to customers. If I have a schema that houses 100 tables, but I only want to use 10, I am charged for the entire schema.
I would like to be able to select certain tables from a schema and only be charged for that subset.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Monte Carlo to implement data quality metrics across all of our platforms. By having these measurements in place, we can identify data gaps, outages, or improper data flows immediately and escalate to the proper team for resolution.

It's options for creating so many different types of monitor alerts including the Custom SQL alert
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing as such. But there's a scope for improvemt in Refrential Integrity alerts and Dimensional Tracking alerts
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Giving us alerts when there's any anomaly idenified int he data.

Monte Carlo is a staple for my platform

  • April 24, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Super reliable, highlights problems for us way before they impact my stakeholders.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much - one nice to have would be to see real recent queries when looking at a Table in Assets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alerting on data surprises. Catching issues at the last mile, resulting in fixes upstream to prevent us from being alerted again. Pushes ownership upstream to the right teams closer to the source of data.

Best in class data quality tool

  • April 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Monte Carlo default monitors make sure you don't miss any anomaly in your data. Specially of help are that they also work with field segmentation.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only way to integrate with Monte Carlo right now is through Redshift. If there was an API/SDK so we could send data or sampled data we would be able to monitor other data sources such as Kafka.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monte Carlo allows us to detect and prevent problems with our data because of problems in our infrastructure.

it alerts when processes are failing.

Intelligent Monitoring, Needs Easier Navigation

  • April 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like Monte Carlo for its AI features that automatically handle the creation of boundaries when you select a source to be monitored. The automatic monitoring of schema changes, metric changes, and freshness is also great. I appreciate its integration with Slack, enabling the creation of automated workflows and keeping everyone informed proactively. The AI feature and automatic monitoring save a lot of time by eliminating the need to manually think about boundaries or constantly check for schema changes. Setting up the system was very easy, as all systems were connected quickly through admin accounts, taking less than a day.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main thing I don't like about Monte Carlo is how you need to select tables. We're really careful about what tables and sources we want to monitor, and that takes quite a lot of time. It's not super easy to navigate and select or deselect tables from a schema. That could be improved in my opinion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monte Carlo saves us time by eliminating the need to manually write tests. It uses AI for automatic boundary adjustments and integrates with Slack for proactive communication. Its automatic monitoring alerts us to schema changes, which helps prevent issues.
