Extremely flexible for anomaly and trending detection

  • August 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
To create unique queries that are applicable to our business use-cases; we can use standardized templates but for trending and business performance metrics, creating our own query with our own historical time frames as reference is critical.
What do you dislike about the product?
I may have not figured out how to do this yet but for anomaly detection, our business can have a 'if this then that scenario' so 0% is not always going to be the case, but 1% could also be wrong - its almost on a case by case review and I haven't figured out how to manage that yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Right now, trending & anomaly detection

Tool is great for high level overviews, alerting, and objects with simple dependencies

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
navigation is easy, alerting has lots of settings that help us make these more relevant
What do you dislike about the product?
When looking at very complex relationships (table lineage) the UI is far too crowded to be helpful - as things expand on the dependency tree they will show up in parts of the screen I can't see, or the same downstream object will be listed in multiple places, making it easy to miss. This is especially the case with tableau views. The UI puts views before workbooks, which makes the dependencies blow up visually - can I first see that workbook A is downstream before the UI loads all 100 views in that book? Field dependencies are very challenging to get in the UI as well, I have to scroll through a huge list that repeats the same workbook several times, and there's no way to query or export these more efficiently. This makes the tool irrelevant to some of our most chalenging lineage questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Lets me see whether a field we are editing has dependencies, alerts flag large deletions or additions from key tables.

MonteCarlo is a critical piece of data monitoring

  • August 21, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Automatic adding of new tables
Built-in monitors (latency, deletions, schema change)
Table & column lineage
What do you dislike about the product?
Value anomoly detection monitoring is too noisy. It's tough to get right.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primarily monitoring latency automatically in our warehouse

Powerful tool that's key for data quality

  • August 20, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The features are diverse and it's a smart tool with the ML integration, and the amount of information available is very useful. It integrates well with Slack and notifies us quickly of issues. We monitor it daily. Our customer support contact is excellent.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI is occasionally difficult to navigate when I want to implement a specific change to a monitor. I'm not sure how this could be changed though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data quality, we can quickly identify when something unexpected has changed in our database and can quickly rectify before it has downstream consequences.

It is a great tool for data observability

  • August 20, 2024

What do you like best about the product?
The UI is very user friendly and intuitive. Ease of Integretion to various channels/sources.
What do you dislike about the product?
Few features need to be more stable. For example tagging must be simplified, usage of secondary query engine to test and create monitors etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having a centralized platform for monitoring and managing all the data anamolies is great.

Powerful data quality product with a passionate and dedicated team behind it

  • August 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Monte Carlo account team has been extremely supportive and dedicated to getting the tool installed and working as best we can.

It is simple to create new data quality rules, and has been easy to get started. There are many data quality rule options that allow us to implement a variety of validation rules very easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
The billing method of paying per table means that we have to be selective about where we use the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monte Carlo helps us monitor our data estate in order to detect data quality issues before our customers report them.

Monte Carlo does help prevent incidents by highlighting data quality problems

  • August 16, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I was initially skeptical about the value Monte Carlo could bring to our team, but since we started using it, it has actually helped us prevent a few incidents by highlighting data quality problems in upstream datasets. Previously, we would only discover such problems after receiving complaints from our consumers, which demanded significantly more time and effort to address.
What do you dislike about the product?
The team doesn't like the false alerts raised by Monte Carlo, which distract engineers. We try to solve this problem by utilizing different priorities, but it doesn't completely solve this issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main business problem is a lack of trust in our data, which means when something breaks and data becomes incorrect, we will only know about it when our customers come to us.
