Using PostHog for professional use for about a month now

  • November 02, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to integrate and implement into an application. The JavaScript library works great!
What do you dislike about the product?
More freedom and varieties of diagrams. Right now you're limited to a basic set, you don't have the tools to create a more advanced graph.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Giving insight into our application. Who is using it and how? We're experimenting with a new UI/UX, and PostHog gives us the information to see if the users are using the new features.

Good, even using it from a BI perspective

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use and good API to implement it with python or other stacks
What do you dislike about the product?
From a BI perspective, we would like to push data regarding the Users, to add information about them that we in our databases. But we are facing many issues while doing this, even using their API
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting more insights about the use of our app than using other tools like google analytics.

Posthog Experience

  • October 24, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Posthog Service has been great and very scalable for the heavy amount of events we ingest. The recording feature has been huge for our company and developers for troubleshooting customer and internal issues. Technical Support has been pretty great. Shout out to Tiina Turban for all the help troubleshooting and helping our setup run smooth!
What do you dislike about the product?
The application is complex, and finding the culprit for an outage can sometimes be cumbersome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
event ingestion on a large scale and session recordings to help troubleshoot and collect click data.

Has great potential

What do you like best about the product?
Combines A/B testing, metric gathering, feature flags and session recording all-in-one. Does not have complicated or sneaky pricing like competitors do. Straightforward product.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lacks maturity and stability. Some bugs in the dashboard that require logging out and back in. You don't have to dig deep to find missing features. After using it for just a couple weeks, found some features that were on GH with many votes but have yet to see the light of day. For example, there's no way to make a cohort by an event with a specific property.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
How to make data-driven decisions and stop guessing which features convert more users. PostHog lets us run experiments with our users to optimize conversion in our app.

Very versatile and powerful analytics tool all-in-one, once you know how to set it up!

What do you like best about the product?
- Live recordings
- A/B tests (experiments)
- The launchpad from which you can select actions no-code
- heatmaps
- design - it's quite beautiful and a good tool for viewing analytics
-> all-in-one solution, without needing to install extras like hotjar

Also, the trackers are quite aggressive (sophisticated).
What do you dislike about the product?
- Setup for more complicated tasks is challenging as the docs are yet incomplete. For example, several config options in the initialisation function are not explained anywhere in the docs (e.g. methods for adjusting GDPR). In any case, the docs should contain more examples through code than written explanations.
- No warning panel for experiments and other features before stopping/deleting them. I once thought stop meant pause and killed my entire experiment (wasn't too tragic as it hadn't fully started yet)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Validating design and product hypothesis, measuring out conversion funnel, quantitative and qualitative ways to analyse a customer

    Financial Services

Post has is a complete product experience tool. It was more robust than what I was expecting.

What do you like best about the product?
Auto capture and that you have an experimental feature. That really is the full stack and everything you would need to improve your product.
What do you dislike about the product?
Implementation docs could have been a little more user friendly and cleaner.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Giving us visibility into user problems.

Great for startups and agencies

  • October 03, 2022

What do you like best about the product?
PostHog was easy to set up and immediately started tracking events and contact data. We love the new screen recordings feature and how it auto-captures events without us setting up the telemetry - no code changes are needed. It's as simple as point and click - we use the "Inspect element" feature to define an event and then navigate to the "Live feed" to see if the events we just defined are being tracked correctly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The screen recordings is a fantastic new feature, but we experienced a few bugs. Hoping to see it polished as the rest of the platform in the coming weeks. Apart from that, the reporting feature needs some more types of graphs and features to replace the other tools we use entirely.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Two things we use Posthog for as an early-stage startup:

1. Easy access to feature utilisation data without requiring colossal development effort and time.

2. Observe how our users interact with our app and see where the significant dropoffs are, and improve the flow.

Looks like a good alternative too GA

What do you like best about the product?
I like the autoevents.
this looks quite usefull.
Sending in you own events seams quite easy as well.
The fact that there is support for A/B testing, heatmaps and session replays is awsome
What do you dislike about the product?
The reporting is a bit lack luster.
This might be a user problem, Im not that well versed using this tool.
But i find it hard to find reports on events that inclide event parameters
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The fact that this can be self hosted, and that the data can be stored in Europe is a big pluss comapring it with GA, where you have no controll over where the acuall data is stored.

Great customer insights - up and running in 10min

  • October 03, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Super easy to setup custom dashboard and build insights based what you are currently monitoring in your web application.
It's great to have auto-capture running. Then when you get more experience you can start to setup custom events and even look at customer behaviour in retrospect.

You can do many tests and monitoring without talking to a developer to set up your analytics.
What do you dislike about the product?
Building insights can be tricky and the amount of graphs you can build is quite limited.
Fx. I'd like to display vertical histograms, but only have horisontal barcharts to display. A bit annoying.

Also, you need to careful when you build you funnels. You can easily end up using the wrong data, unintentionally.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want to move away from Google Analytics as our primary analytics tool. And PostHog offers a great way to build dashboards and insights that helps monitor our MTMM. Also, the feature flags work great. Experiments look promising, even though we haven't had time to test it yet.

Posthog gives me a mix of excitement and wanting for more

  • October 03, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. Interface is very nice
2. Integration is simple enough
3. I can share dashboards by link (without anyone having to login)
4. Customer support answered relatively quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. I'm unable to quickly delete events
2. I'm unable to share "Live events" (or have "Live events" as a separate dashboard and then share the dashboard)
3. Number of features can be a bit overwhelming and I feel too scared to even start exploring.
4. Excluding events by attributes isn't working consistently.
5. Can't click on "N persons" in Funnel view to see the list of people in it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our product are software solutions for other companies developed on our AI platform. Posthog allows us to share KPI data with our clients through anonymous dashboard, without us having to developing (and maintain) things manually.
