Solid Edge metal sheet design

  • July 27, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Well I started using Solid Edge because while designing a metal sheet part in Fusion 360, I hit a road block.
I wasn't able to add hemmings, dimples and all other features you would consider standard with Metal sheet design. Switching to Solid Edge gave me more control over that. It feels like a solid software for 3D design.
I still have to practice more to be more comfortable. But as someone who used SolidWorks before, it has this same feeling of being able to do much more than Fusion 360. On top of that it's free!
I think it's a great way to improve my 3D design experience and even perform physical tests without breaking the bank. Because as an Hobbyist/Entrepreneur, you don't always have the ability to spend 100s every month on a software just to test new designs.
What do you dislike about the product?
My issue with Solid Edge is being able to modify past actions. I MIGHT have missed that such a feature exists somewhere in the settings; because I know Fusion 360 and SolidWorks have such features.
But also, it might be slightly unstable and tends to crash. I do perform complex tasks on the software, and no software is perfect, but I believe there could be some improvement on that side of things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Metal sheet design was the big reason for me to use Solid Edge. I am able to have much more control on my design. The built-in features are great and save a lot of my time. Also the included simulation is great, as it avoids using external software.

Synchronous technology

  • July 27, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It makes modeling fast and flexible, combining the best of parametric and direct modeling. I use it regularly for 3D parts, assemblies, and technical drawings, and it handles everything smoothly. The interface is clean, the tools are powerful, and performance is great even on mid-range hardware. A reliable choice for serious engineering work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can mention the user interface can feel outdated, and the learning curve may be steep for beginners . Some menus are cluttered, and finding the right tools can take time for new users. The software is clearly designed for professionals, but beginners might find the workflow less intuitive at first
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Over the past year, I’ve been working extensively with Solid Edge to bring product ideas to life — from early 3D concepts to final technical drawings ready for production.

What sets Solid Edge apart for me is its Synchronous Technology — it allows fast, flexible edits without breaking the model. This means I can respond to design changes quickly and keep projects moving forward, even under tight deadlines.

3D printing uses

  • July 26, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As I am someone who doesn't use a lot of software. I wanted to make some small 3D printed knife stands for my house. I took the help of my son and learnt the software to make things on my own. The tools are very descriptive of its own. Which helped me to learn it quickly
What do you dislike about the product?
I did not find anything that I disliked about Solid Edge. The software is simple to use and great for first-time users as well. I found it a little difficult to integrate, but later on I managed it on my own
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helped me to learn something new and bring out a creative aspect in me. Empowering me to build stuff on my own and create customized things according to my need

I have used Solid Edge for my academic projects to design, assembly and renders

  • July 26, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has really good design workspace and is very efficient especially with renders and overall time taken to render. The assembly sections was quite seamless even with large assemblies
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI can be improved and made more user friendly. A lot of repetitive clicks could be made into a shortcut. The access of the software isn't readily available and it took a while to get used to the interface and software
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The software is very efficient and smooth there is no crashes while designing and while assembling multiples parts it did not give any trouble and it was very responsive

Reliable and Powerful CAD Tool

  • July 26, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Solid Edge makes both direct and parametric modeling easy to use. It’s fast, flexible, and the interface feels clean. I can handle large assemblies without much lag, and the built-in simulation tools save me time switching between software. It’s great for both quick edits and complex designs, and really supports everyday engineering tasks well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the software feels a bit heavy, especially with bigger files — you need a good PC for smooth performance. Some features are hidden in menus and take time to get used to. Also, cloud sharing and real-time team collaboration tools could be better. But overall, the benefits easily outweigh these small issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge helps me design mechanical parts and assemblies faster with its synchronous modeling, which makes editing much easier. It reduces the time spent reworking models and improves design accuracy. The CAM integration also allows me to generate toolpaths directly from the models, saving time during manufacturing prep. Overall, it speeds up both design and production while reducing errors.

Used it for my academic projects

  • July 26, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I found it easy to install on my PC. It also has a very user friendly interface. I used it for most of my computer aided engineering drawings and 3D modelling.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really didn't see any issues with Solid Edge. I thought it was great for a beginner by being self explanatory process which eased up the learning curve.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used in one of my final year project, It helped me develop the prototype by aiding in visualization and how different parts integrated to make the final product.

Solid Edge review

  • July 25, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge has the advantage of being user friendly and provides good features for 3d modelling like creating weldments assemblies in which the whole material can be selected at assembly level instead of parts.
What do you dislike about the product?
The problem with Solid Edge as it is faced with large assemblies is that it has the tendency to crash in the middle of work without a prior save notice which can create work loss if you don't save frequently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps as any CAD 3D modelling software in creating 3d parts for any project or machine before sending it to the manufacturing phase. Also it helps simulate the structures for stress analysis which can help find any material selection or strength problems in the manufactured parts.

What do you like best about the product?
It allows me to create 3D models of the equipment with their piping and specifications, very useful for correctly learning the operation of the equipment and training the staff.
What do you dislike about the product?
Solid Edge is a very good tool, but I would like it much more if it integrated an AI bot from various companies like OpenAI, Google for a better experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
They provide cutting-edge solutions for 3D design for a wide range of industrial sectors, which particularly benefits me as it allows me to design complex equipment in real time.
