Austin's Review

  • November 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that i dont need a powerful computer to 3D model and that I have access to all my documents on any computer connected to the internet. i really love the sheet metal tools that onshape has and continued to develope.
What do you dislike about the product?
On very complex assemblies you start to see the limitations of cloud based cad. Documents become sluggish and load times are longer. Onshape support has been helpful in providing insights to improve our workflows. I also would like to recommend that native rendering and textures be added to onshape.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use onshape for work and personal design. It really helps to visualize a design fully and definitely is helpful to our manufacturing team. The main benefit of onshape is that we are able to easily and quickly collaborate as a team to complete projects and fully flush out a design.

Seamless Integration

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape's integrated PDM features, intuitive assembly mating and collaborative work features are fantastic
What do you dislike about the product?
Still a few features missing, but no deal-breakers. Things like fasteners of any length (or commonly available lengths) rather than just ISO/DIN lengths would be great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Assemblies in Onshape are robust which solves its own problems. When things do break, there is a complete history to roll back to any point to retrieve or examine things.

What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive features and tools layout, multi-user enterprise collaborative functionality, cloud-based software increases accessibility to files. Copy workspace tool, I use it every day.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Drawings segment still needs some improvement, there are still a few quirks i'd like to see improved. Mainly concerning section views, break views, and aux views. They do not label or align properly. Detail views also are not fully supported with break views.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Modular design using common parts and assemblies across the product library. Onshape enables seamless networking between all parts within the enterprise.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to check your PC hardware specs are at optimum capacity, in order to fully utilize Onshape assembly performance. Large complex assemblies can still lag pretty significantly. Make use of simplified 3D models when you can (omit any internal non-critical features in the design)

Most user friendly and capable CAD program on the market today!

What do you like best about the product?
I'm also a devoted Solidworks user and given that Onshape was built by the original founders - it allowed them to step away from the inherent legacy support required by Solidworks and gave them an open book to start from scratch and build from what they learned along the way.
What do you dislike about the product?
The obvious is if you have no internet connection or a slow internet connection you're screwed. There is a huge investment required for building web + desktop + mobile suites of products so it would be really nice to have the ability to download your document (part studios, drawings, assemblies, and anything else) into a tablet or mobile app (Onshape already has the mobile versions) that you can just carry around with you.

Secondly I wish they had better support for flat patterns (svg, dxf) for use on CNC machines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I build things for my own personal use, for my mining company, and small one-off projects. I can design, look at, review, and then build something in literally a fraction of the time. Using modern day equipment I can cut, fit, and fabricate and it's right from the start.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I see many users that use products like SketchUp, Fusion360, and Illustrator to do CAD-like work that OnShape just excels at. Onshape should have a switcher campaign.

Cloud Based Design Software

  • November 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
So far I am very happy with the fact that all files are handled through the cloud allowing for very minimal computing requirements. Also based on the file structure, it is a very interesting approach to no longer have to manage actual "files" in the traditional sense. This seamless integration of how the documents are managed will allow our company to scale up on the design side of our work very easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the main dislikes is coming from a more complete design platform of Solidworks, there are some key missing features such as a weldment/frame generator package. Currently any structural or piping runs need to be manually generated or done through the use of a custom script.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of our key issues we have is that we are relying on google drive to handle the sharing and storage of our design files. This has resulted in problems where files can become corrupted or slowed down to the how the files are backed up and synced. Sharing of files can take hours and has resulted in certain users to work locally and upload when required to backup causing collaboration issues. With the collaboration features and the built in ERP system of Onshape, this has overnight changed how work can be thought of and handled.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ensure that the abilities of Onshape suit what you try to design. Even though it is a very well though out design platform, there are some key features that could be deal breakers and cause more issues than benefits depending on your needs. The pace of updates is impressive and nearly invisible in the sense that no upgrade files and installs are required so the growth of this platform is exciting to be a part of.

Love Onshape; CAD Gamechanger

  • November 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Collaboration becomes so much easier with Onshape. Version management within Onshape also feels so much smoother than that of other CAD systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Drawing tools are still a bit rudimentary. Sometimes there are some GD&T maneuvers that cannot work out with Onshape, so I end up using Notes as a workaround. I really wish external collaboration tools for Enterprise users was more advanced. With SSO, I believe our organization cannot share our CAD with external collaborators.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primarily collaboration issues that existed with other CAD systems, such as PDM/SolidWorks.

What do you like best about the product?
Possibility to cad from everywhere phone table computer
What do you dislike about the product?
Still some feature that need to be added . Like weldment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborative design is way better. Also no need for a super highend computer. Always new updates
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep listening your client for new features!

Great tool for us

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The availability for all team members and the abilty to concurrently work on a project minimizing errors and re-works
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I do miss some CAD features like Geometry analyzer and the ability to play with importing options that other CAD systems have. We do need tools since our basic design input usually needs re-working or at least diagnostics to see what can be used and what not.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Main cad platform now, so almost all designs come in through OnShape (except some translations to be done outside of the system). The benefit is to be able to have a TEAM effectively workj on a project without the need to have servers, shared files, down-the-road updating, proof-checking on several workflows, etc.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This tool is my everyday necessity to enhance the productivity of my organization and to bring the versatility in my already designed products. Through this tool I have collaborated with my team members and stake holders across the world and together we are working the betterment of our company. This tool has made possible to develop new product without being distract by file-based software.
What do you dislike about the product?
Till now I have not faced any basic issue which could not be resolved, sometimes I faced the issue in the slowdown often mobile application and initially it was difficult for me to take the first step as no training videos were there to help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Through this platform I am capable of easily launch the product design by getting started my PC and even the mobile application works really fast. I appreciate its quality services and it is not that much technical tool. I am capable of experiencing the real-time design reviews, commenting and simultaneous I can make changes by collaborating with my team and by sharing of vies together, because we create multiple designs through this too.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This tool is highly recommended it is very reasonable in price and it would help you to open new doors regarding the product development. Also this software is very much helpful for the productive companies who deals in designing related to any filed like chemical, electrical, mechanical etc.

OnShape offers very sophisticated tools for modeling any complex geometry.

  • October 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
OnShape has become one of the best CAD modeling software as it provides you with easy to understand user interface and also gather all like functions into a single tool that makes it easier for a user to deal with any complex geometry.
Another important point about OnShape is its color theme for different surfaces in the geometry. This helps users to understand and deal with geometry very easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the points I don't like about OnShape is its import option. I had one very complex file which couldn't get imported into OnShape while it did get imported into Creo. As a model CAD tool, we expect the import and export tools to be as flexible and powerful.
The second point is that we don't have an auto-correct option for any geometrical or modeling errors in the session.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am dealing with complex CAD models such as a whole city model with all buildings and roads, medical devices, CPU cabinets, and others.
For medical devices, I could able to create features as low as in microns unit which is one plus point for any CAD software. It is very easy to delete any part or face with the features provided in OnShape.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
OnShape is the best CAD software available currently in the Market. It's very reasonable with respect to price and gives much more in terms of features as compared to its competitor. I am a Solidwork user too, but believe me, its way easier and powerful than Solidworks.
