Onshape CAD
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape offers a robust suite of solid/surface modeling tools with innovative workflows and a great value proposition.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only real downside is that I have to be connected to the internet to work on my CAD models.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape allows me to share CAD models with clients and potential clients. They don't have to download, install, or signup for anything. A web browser and internet connection set the stage for me to share a URL taking them straight to the actual 3d CAD model, live in real time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Signup for a free 'public' account to get your feet wet. This beats the pants of the industry-standard '30 day free trial'. The only caveat is that your CAD models are accessible to other Onshape users.
Easy-to-use, continously updated, online CAD platform
What do you like best about the product?
Browser based, so it is easily accessed from the office or at home. It also means that rendering is done in the cloud, drastically lowering the hardware requirements for your system.
Onshape is also easy to use with extensive self-paced courses and webinars. Coming from other CAD software it is therefore easy to get acquainted with the new workflow and possibilities.
It is continuously updated. Every 3 weeks Onshape is updated, so that you are always working with the latest version. Since OnShape is cloud based, all your documents are automatically updated to the latest versions, so no troubles with not being able to open outdated documents.

What do you dislike about the product?
Models can still take quite some time to update, and since you're on your browser, its easy to get distracted.
We also experience quite some models unexpectedly breaking down, which seems to be an error in the underlying code. Although Support is easy to contact and has always solved the problem, it takes time to continue your work.
Lastly, when OnShape pushes a version update, models might get broken in the update. This means features might not link to the correct vertex and you would have to go through the feature tree to correct it. Not a huge problem, but takes time.

We can easily work with multiple users on the same documents, without fear of different versions. Version management is superb.
In these crazy Corona times it has also been a breeze switching from office to home use.

Tired of working with outdated document versions, not knowing which file was the last, complete one? Having a beat-down laptop which can't run hardware-heavy software like SolidWorks? Try Onshape :)
Very Helpful!!

I like the fact I can use On Shape anywhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing that I dislike; however, I do not go deep into the software.

Onshape Review
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is cloud-based, so sharing and collaborating can be done with any device- you just need an internet connection. I can share my Onshape workspace, in real time, with a coworker on the other side of the globe (or down the hall) and have meaningful discussions regarding my design. Being able to design multiple interfacing parts within the Part Studio is a HUGE advantage. Before Onshape, I had to design all the parts independently, throw them into an assembly, and then do micro-adjustments to make them fit just right. Designing them all together in the Part Studio is a huge time and anxiety saver. The way you build assemblies with Mate Connectors is fabulous- most parts can be fully-defined with only one mate, not three. Tech support is very quick to respond when you have a question. Other options for answers are in Help and Forums. Training is top-notch; there is plenty available to help someone well-versed in CAD to become competent in Onshape very quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
As great as Onshape is, there are numerous functionality deficits that some may be turned off by. However, Onshape is constantly evolving and adding to its functionality with Improvement Requests sent in via Support Tickets by the users. Every 3 weeks, a new update is launched and seemlessly incorporated into Onshape. It's just a matter of time before all the functionality of more-senior CAD packages will be present in Onshape, and when it does, it will surely be better than the rest. Besides, wherever Onshape's functionality may lack, there is usually a simple workaround.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Again, using Part Studio for my designs has made designing interfacing parts so much easier. And then assembling them with Mate Connectors- a breeze. One more advantage- in the 5 months that I've been using Onshape, I haven't had one single unannounced shutdown of the system. Huge time saver!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try Onshape. Take it for a test spin. Go through some of the basic tutorials to learn about the advantages of Onshape. Then you can make an informed decision based on your own experience with the package.
