Easily accesible with great features and excellent integrated training

  • May 31, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to work from assemblies down to Part Studios. The fact that parts are not locked in files. The excellent support you get from Onshape. The very efficient online training coures, that enables you to get going quickly and add skills as you need them.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can run in a browser but you will probably need to invest in a dedicated GPU. - Working on a business laptop gets slow when you add movement or complex designs. I had hoped I could use just about any PC for Onshape, but no.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am designing a multi product solution, with many parts that need to integrate and work in different contexts. I also design the manufacturing tools for all parts. Onshape does all this very well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use a computer with a dedicated graphics card. Take the online training courses.

Onshape is Truly "Fearless CAD"

  • May 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to edit my documents anywhere and whenever I want to. This flexibility allows me to work while on lunch on my laptop or from home if need be. I Enjoy being able to use Onshape in browser, because it allows me to work at home and use the full functionallity of the product at all times and places. Another like that I have when it comes to Onshape, is the constant updates. Every month there is atleast one update that makes Onshape a better place for all engineers and other users. I enjopy the ability to move forward and backward in time on a project.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, the load times in Onshape can be a disruptor to the workflow I have. That being said, I can move quicker than in most other CAD programs because of the lack of crashes and program-breaking bugs. Another dislike I have about Onshape is the price. I wish there was a lower tier that hobbyists could buy and use for making fearless CAD.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problems I have solved mostly include the flexibility with other users. The ability to work in real-time with my co-workers on projects that would have been stagnant. We have worked on pleanty of projects when it comes to creating new products on Onshape, and it has allowed us to improve our designs with the upmost confidence. Being able to move forward and backward in the history of the part or project is whickedy important and allows us to really narrow in on a design to ensure we have all the design criteria met, and most of the time, exceeded.

Keeps getting better day by day, Ease of accessibility

  • May 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Accessibility from anywhere around the globe since it is browser-based, Constant improvements by the OnShape team in making it as smooth and as fast as possible
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes internet speeds can affect it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Work from home scenario doesn't require unique software installations; I can work from anywhere. All storage problems on the local system are gone. Multiple users can work more efficiently and with lesser mistakes with the OnShape environment.

Onshape should be everybody's go to CAD platform

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is one of the best Engineering software's I have work with to date. The cloud (SAAS) based approach to the Onshape Platform sets it apart from all other CAD software, and over the years, I have used almost all the other brands. It is completely aligned with today's engineering and collaborative approaches to engineering development. During Covid is allowed a seamless transition to working from home and collaborating with teams remotely.
What do you dislike about the product?
It could do with some additional integrated engineering tools that seamlessly interact with the Onshape. Engineering tools such as FEA, CFD, and Rendering tools that use mesh into the Onshape platform would be more beneficial than the current offerings, which are slightly more stand-alone. They are getting there, so it is encouraging to see.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving real-world engineering challenges, and Onshape has allowed us to do this in a way that no other CAD platform has done. All the features and its intuitive interface have allowed us to very efficiently develop our products and prototype them into a working state rapidly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for an intuitive CAD solution that meets your needs and is comparable, if not better, to any other software you have worked on, then Onshape is the one to consider absolutely. It has met our needs and more with our engineering product development.

Easy to explore multiple design options under structured branches without loosing design data

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I don't have to worry about loosing data and relationship among mutiple parts and assemblies when I generate multiple design options.
What do you dislike about the product?
Missing some useful features compared to others.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using OnShape as the main CAD system for new product development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Those who want to spend more time on design. But spend less time in administration would benefit from using OnShape.

Running CAD out of a database frees you from worrying about managing files.

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Running CAD out of a database eliminates a lot of wasted time managing files or fixing them when something breaks. Onshape uses "git like" revision management system, except files, are not saved locally. Every revision is saved, and you can always go back and branch into a new workspace when you realize you have gone in the wrong direction.
Another big plus is assemblies use datum targets for mating parts which results in much more stable assemblies and is faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
One disadvantage is if there are highly complex part studios with lots of dependencies, regeneration when changes are made can get very slow. Regeneration happens on Onshape [AWS] servers, so this is not somthing a faster workstation can fix. Regeneration times are seldom an issue, but it occasionally requires some planning to limit the number of dependencies in a part studio.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Onshape for product, machine tool, and tooling design. Onshape lets me work faster than systems like Creo or Solidworks, and I feel freer to focus on innovation rather than worrying about a PDM system or file system.

What do you dislike about the product?
Configurations are ridiculously powerful, but the update routine needs work
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
