Best in-browser CAD experience available today.

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of access and sharing. No installations or high-end hardware is required. Sharing is as easy as sending a link. This is incredibly valuable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Performance can sometimes bog down, which can make development slow. Sheet metal design, forming tools, and tool pathing are still relatively novice.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are closing the gap between design in manufacturing using Onshape as our bridge. We have developed in-house processes that allow rapid fabrication of prototypes at record speed.

A strong player in the market

What do you like best about the product?
The following features are much appreciated:
Ability to access files anywhere
The simplicity in basic features
Metadata capability (makes searching operation very useful)
No mandatory CAD station requirement
What do you dislike about the product?
Very few things such as missing capabilities in drawing environment, searching can be made a little faster, ability to share 'Labels' with multiple users, and sharing/being able to view folder address.
Additionally, we should be able to customize how the table appears and what kind of information it represents. For example, if a document can show how many files are in it, or the latest REV of it, etc would be helpful.
Moreover, we needed to extract the links of each document and found no easy way of doing so. There are people who would customize it for us, but it would cost a couple thousand dollars.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our previous CAD package was down half the time, too complex, and required an IT support department that we don't have.
Onshape also simplified our Engineering change process by eliminating a step for exporting PDFs before approval now that viewers can see the drawings and comment directly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When we were in the market looking for a suitable CAD/PDM package, we compared these:
Onshape, Solidworks, Fusion 360.
Each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. We weighted each feature and capability and graded them. Onshape outscored others by at least 10%. At the end, it all depends on what your organization does and which package is more suitable.

Onshape is a complete and powerful CAD tool with besti in class PDM capabilities.

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Onshape is the ability to access a full-featured CAD system from anywhere, at any time, with no overhead computing cost. Onshape has never left me wanting for a core modelling feature and any obsecure tools I need are usually avalible or created through a feature script.
What do you dislike about the product?
Onshape has yet to provide a service that is compliant with Canadian Export Control regulations (CGP), which precludes its use on particular projects and applications.

Onshape could also use some develpment on making the drawing user experience more fluid. Presently the ability to co-view drawings is non existent and the ability to work with them on mobile is extremely limited. It would be nice to see some model based definition features iomplimented as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape as allowed me to develop and launch a high performance product without massive license and hardware costs. The ability to collaborte remotely has been immensly useful in design reviews and concept generation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend paying close attention to the PDM / version control type features of Onshape as they can be potent tools in your review, release, and change processes. I would also recommend committing some time to understand the nuances of the assembly features as they can be unique and powerful.

The best way to real time share and collaborate on designs

  • June 08, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
We have a team split between Europe, the US, and Southeast Asia. The ability to share, track changes, remote view, and have multiple parties edit makes this an enormous advantage for us. Also, we are often on the move. The cloud-based platform eliminates the need for expensive computers and reduces lag during working time. To date, we have not had any issues with lag due to connection. There is also the enormous benefit of link sharing through email which tremendously accelerated collaboration.
What do you dislike about the product?
Though the SW is improving daily, it still leaves something to be desired when doing assemblies; particularly, you cannot add OTS parts from Mcmaster directly into a part studio-- this is something most users we have are probably doing daily. I am not the biggest fan of the mating layout, it sometimes feels like I need to do a lot of pointing and clicking. I think the drawing tools could benifit a lot from toggle-able o-snaps, similar to Rhino. These give you much more fine control over your drawing boundaries. The assemblies themselves can sometimes get confusing in that a part studio that is then inserted into an assembly can have a different part count, often leaving my assembly doc with a list of part studios that all have varying BOMs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are creating lab automation robots with an interdisciplinary worldwide team. Onshape lets us share designs, convert to molds, split up the labor of part documentation, and even do some low-level product life cycle management with the revision tracking. All of this would be incredibly challenging and memory-intensive with standard CAD packages.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is not solidworks; stop comparing them. Each has their own advantages

What do you like best about the product?
can design at the same time with the teamate and easy to design sheet metal
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no 3d sketch feature on onsbape. I think if onshape have a 3d sketch feature it will be very helpful
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automation laboratory

Excellent Parametric design system

  • June 08, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The quality and integration of the top down design method
What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of features other programs have
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The simplicity of the interface leads to better design processes. Simpler design trees.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Know specifically what you need from a CAD package to understand if Onshape will provide the features at this time.

3D Printing Design Engineer Review

  • June 08, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Super collaborative and easy to use. The cloud-based functionality is great!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it can get a little bogged down on really complex models. Not quite as advanced as Solidworks or Catia for extremely advanced designs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main benefit is being able to collaborate in real-time with clients and other designers. I am creating designs that are optimized for 3D printing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
OnShape is the future of CAD. It is built for collaboration and making designing so easy.

Smooth cloud design

  • June 08, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is a working cloud CAD system with a lot of design features. The transition from previous CAD systems (Creo, Catia V5, SolidWorks, and Inventor) was smooth and fast. The team is updating the CAD system regularly.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some features I would like to see which are not yet implemented. The biggest drawback seems to be the missing offline capability and the lag we experience while working with large assemblies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a newly created startup, we needed a CAD system with which we can work together from our homes and which doesn't cost a lot. We were delighted to have found Onshape with its integrated CAD storage solution, the ability to work together without any hassle of checking out parts and in. It just works.

Onshape works very well if you have a good Connection

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the features that built into Onshape. Someone can learn some tricks from the online forum.
What do you dislike about the product?
I work primarily on a laptop and have a difficult time when I have any complex drawings at all.
I would recommend a computer with a lot of video processing and speed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can create working drawings for our fabrication team and know that there won't be any interference.

What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a litlebit slow if your internet connection is unstable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
