Onshape was an integral part of my ability to start my own business.
What do you like best about the product?
There is a lot to like but the best has to do with the accessibility of it being web based and the fact that I can do full CAD work from my phone and iPad.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that sometimes it takes a long time to load large and complicated documents.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am introducing people to the world of manufacturing. Helping them navigate the convoluted twists and turns of taking ideas from a napkin sketch to a functional prototype and further to a first production run. Onshape allows me to introduce CAD to my clients in a easy to digest way. It even makes it fun for them to be able to participate in the design iteration process without having to make an investment in CAD software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it and use it. You will see that it does everything you need while offering new and innovative solutions for your daily CAD needs like simultaneous sheetmetal.
Simple, easy-to-use cloud based CAD
What do you like best about the product?
Three things I like about Onshape: 1) Cloud based - I can use it anywhere on any device. 2) Excellent tutorials and support. 3) It is continually improving and partnering with others to benefit the platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing to dislike about Onshape. It meets all our needs and some we haven't yet discovered!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In our manufacturing, we are moving more and more to 3D parts. Onshape is helpful in designing, tweaking and improving our manufacturing process.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make the switch from what you are currently using to Onshape.
Onshape has delivered overall design process efficiency gains greater than 50% over our previous CAD
What do you like best about the product?
We love the mate functionality & the document control-focused approach. We also love the cloud-based architecture as it provides data security & ease of access far beyond that of any competing solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
The drawing tools still need some refinement, and we would love to see the addition of full eCAD capabilities so that we could transition our entire development process into the Onshape platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Issues solved by Onshape include lack of native CAD document control, network latency & machine computing inefficiencies, intellectual property data insecurity, and extended development lead times. We estimate that the Onshape solution will provide ~$260k savings over the first three years of use, representing >350% ROI.

In almost any business environment, I have confidence that Onshape can result in valuable time savings & resource efficiency improvements while offering the highest quality CAD capabilities.
Onshape is great for startups and small businesses
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape allows a group of individuals to collaborate design ideas in real-time.
What do you dislike about the product?
The drawing features could use more capabilities. A better BOM system is needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ease-of-access allows simple remote collaboration even for inexperienced users, which is vital in today's society.

A secondary CAD program may be required for the documentation phase of design

What do you like best about the product?
Well, the fact that it's cloud based. I can use it anywhere I have a cloud connection

Not as fully featured as some CAD software

Injection molded part design and bottle design
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use an open mind and learn some of their design concepts. OnShape, like any 3D software is going to work differently from your old 3D software, embrace those differences and rethink your method of model construction and you'll be more successful in model creation.
Cloud based software makes collaboration easy, anywhere
What do you like best about the product?
Great support. Issues are resolved almost immediately
What do you dislike about the product?
BOMs are tricky. It'd be nice to be able to edit more retroactively

Working remote. Loading projects quickly and solving issues anywhere
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Fantastic for modeling and detailing simpler items. We use it for fabrication of steel structures and it is perfect
Modern CAD for startups
What do you like best about the product?
There is little to almost no need for a CAD admin, and no concept of a vault per se. Everything is done automatically in the cloud which makes IT admin work simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no large assembly mode, so you need to manually make documents lightweight. Only becomes a problem for us with very large models with lots of patterns and intricate detail.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working remotely has become immensely easier. There's no software to install, VPN to configure, everything works as easy as google docs.
Great CAD package that is cost effective and isn't tied to a single machine.
What do you like best about the product?
That OnShape is cloud-based and not tied to a single computer.
What do you dislike about the product?
That OnShape's performance is very dependent on my current internet speed, especially in places where the internet speed is sub-optimal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are designing the enclosures for our custom products.
Ever evolving 3D CAD software
What do you like best about the product?
The fact that it is constantly evolving and adding new updates as well as the custom tools. Being able to login in on any device, anywhere is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the program can lag when certain features are too intense, like complicate patterns.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to conceptualize our new product ideas and share them with prospective buyers as well as development key product features that are to accurate specs for manufacturing.
Excellent CAD package
What do you like best about the product?
Great for collaboration and great sheet metal modeling tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can sometimes take a while to load larger assemblies

Working with a group of engineers on the same document, we can collaborate easily with OnShape. Great quality of life tool for our team.

Make sure it covers everything you'll need or that you have correct supplemental software.
