A great tool that keeps improving
What do you like best about the product?
Its cloud bases systems are very good and its ability to support colabertive work. Overall it has everything most engineers need for solid modeling, sheet metal modelling, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Making drawings is the worst part by far. It is extremely laggy and has a delay for everything. It sucks spending 10 minutes making a part and 20 minutes creating a drawing. Overall its the biggest drag with the software. There are other issues with the drawings, such as not being able to make small movement that you would find in any other drawing software.
Its gotten better, but even after working with Onshape support it didnt improve. The issue stems from a large number of entities such no text which seem to slow it down.

We need to design parts in 3D. It lets us CAD in 3D
Onshape Digital Transformation
What do you like best about the product?
- Cloud-based allows for easy accessibility from anywhere on any device

What do you dislike about the product?
One major downside is the lack of an offline mode that allows for syncing your work once an internet connection is re-established. With Onshape being solely cloud-based, any loss of internet means you cannot access your designs at all. There is no way to work offline and then sync the work back to the cloud after connecting. This limitation could be frustrating if you need to work in areas with unreliable connectivity and it interrupts your design workflow. Having an offline mode or basic functionality during internet disruptions would be an important improvement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With SolidWorks, keeping our server and desktop hardware updated to handle the intensive CAD software was an ongoing struggle. Additionally, not having a PDM made file mapping a continuous chore whenever local file locations and/or names changed. Our design workflow was also constrained by limited remote access due to network bottlenecks. Pack and Go was the only cumbersome alternative.
In contrast, Onshape's cloud-based solution eliminates hardware bottlenecks by providing access via any web browser. All modeling occurs in the cloud, instead of local resource-intensive installations. Additionally, Onshape's built-in data management provides seamless version control and location mapping. Finally, the anywhere accessibility of Onshape enables our team to work without restrictions. By leveraging the cloud, Onshape provides the performance, data management, and accessibility that our previous desktop solution lacked.

Onshape Review
What do you like best about the product?
most of the file extensions can be imported or exported
web based software where no installation or updates are needed
easy sharability and document control all on the cloud so then we don't have to use our own capacity

What do you dislike about the product?
Layout drawing can be more detailed
Log of the commends listed can be helpful like Autocad
More shortcuts to minimize using mouse to click buttons

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There is a constant updates based on the user feedback and that's added as a new feature.
I recommend Onshape to anyone and everyone!!
What do you like best about the product?
It is cloud based and very easy to learn. The keyboard shortcuts are amazing! I love being able to have assemblies and parts in the same file. The benefits of Onshape go on and on.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a bit of limitation compared to Solidworks, but they release new features regularly and are catching up so it's not really a drawback.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape lets us design our parts and reference their dimensions.
Good for online CAD collaboration. Not so fast when it comes to loading large assemblies/documents.
What do you like best about the product?
Online collaboration and web-based is pretty cool.
What do you dislike about the product?
It gets slow for large assemblies/documents.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration between mechanical designers.
Perfect for startups
What do you like best about the product?
Always up to date, never crashes and allows the team to just focus on doing the best design work they can.
What do you dislike about the product?
No offline mode, but not a big problem in reality day to day.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape solves our previous version control issues by getting everyone looking at the same single source of truth. This makes it much easier for managers to know what is in the product, and what's not. Being able to see where released parts are used immediately flags fixtures and assemblies that are impacted by design change. Above all, Onshape has a modern and responsive UI, unlike any other clunky traditional CAD/PDM I have used.
Modern cad for a modern world
What do you like best about the product?
Great design philosphy, ability to use tools in multiple ways depending on complexity of project. Collaboration crucial and easy, vastly superior to all other cad solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
No offline access mode, which can make projects challenging in limited internet scenarios. Would be great if we could just access a model loaded with conneciton present, not to edit but to take measurements and view?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solves collaboration on all projects, across mechanical and electrical disciplines within our team. Never had a crash or lost file due file loss - and the git-style version management, branching, etc. is incredible!
Why I like Onshape
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is easy to use, always available and offers a great universe of 3rd party tools that use the data for advanced purposes.
A special plus of Onshape is its tremendous customer focus. All questions (also beginner questions) are answered fast and precisely and suggestions are rated and prioritized for development.

What do you dislike about the product?
The main problem is data storage. If for any reason (I cannot foresee but that might happen) I would loose access to the platform, all my work would be gone. It is possible to download data, but the whole context is gone. To have a function or at least a practice how to download all relevant data of a model would be helpful.
Another thing I am ambiguous about is the programming language. The great thing is that the code of onshape itself is published and can be used for personal extension. The downside is that the programming language is quite complex and that there is yet few and superficial training material. But like many other training material that I saw in the past 8 years, this tends to get better.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can focus on designing and don't have to worry about system administration and maintenance.
And I get fantastic support if ever I have questions.
Another great benefit are the many extension functions like Simulation, Rendering etc that make the tool more then just a CAD system.

Great Online CAD software with constant Improvements & Updates
What do you like best about the product?
With the online interface I can use Onshape anywhere. They're always improving and adding new features that are on par with the industry as a whole. Best of all each step taken is saved along the way making it easy to go back ontop of never having to worry about hitting the save button again - it's seamless and doesn't slow down the process.
What do you dislike about the product?
Being new to the industry not all usual features are available, but with the constant updates it is only a matter of time. The sketching and curve/surface construction experience is one of the major shortfalls I have found in my work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape provides the primary Mechanical CAD tool for our business. It supplies us with the ability to work together as a team to design, review, and export our products.
The most likely future of CAD
What do you like best about the product?
I like the branching and merging system, which drastically improves the process of iterating on a design. Traditional CAD assumes designed to progress in a linear fashion. In reality, there are tons of dead ends and circling back to do. Onshape makes that a breeze with minimal overhead.
What do you dislike about the product?
Any word processing is really bad. From embossed text to notes in your drawing. You might as well be using Notepad with 8 fonts only. Importing files like STPs and .DWG is also limited compared to competitors. Sure it can take the file type but the results are not great with the lack of controls for repairing your model.
Teaching new employees is also an unforeseen struggle. Every engineer thinks they can learn a new CAD system in a month but come close to there level of competence with a file-based system. They struggle most to get familiar with the Database format and the assembly mates. Onshape needs to develop a bigger presence at the University level.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The overhead for managing multiple users' hardware and software is basically zero. I don't need to ever think about setting up a PDM sever and trying to sink installed versions of CAD software.
