Onshape the future of online CAD
What do you like best about the product?
The integration of Onshape was extremely easy, transfering over to, from our traditional CAD package (Solid Edge) to Onshape was effortless. The online tutorials allow you the ability to learn quickly while continuing to work on live projects. If there is something you cannot find the answer to, Customer support is on hand to help. Normally you will recieve a reply within the hour often sooner. If there is something missing you want onshape to do, fire off a support ticket and onshape will create an improvement request.
We frequently use Onshape on a daily bases as our main CAD package.
There are many advantages Onshape has over traditional CAD packages, the ability to work collaboratively with others, document release control, renderings, publications, sharing data with others.
Creating large, complicated assemblies with lots of moving parts is very easy to achieve with the use of mate connectors, these connectors help you position parts in relation to each other and allow you to control the movement of the part within your main assembly.
I personally like the speed of modelling multiple parts together in one place, this allows me to create dimensional constraints between parts, this is especially useful at the concept stage when you are constantly changing dimensions and clearances.
With Onshape being cloud based, we no longer have ussues around updating software. We are a large company with employees in multiple locations around the world. With the traditional CAD package we all had to agree when we would update the software, quite often this ment we would be several releases behind the latest release. Using a cloud base CAD package like Onshape takes care of this for you, therefore allowing all employees to work from the latest release.

What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't alot i don't like about Onshape.
2D drawings are the only area where improvements could be made. Sometimes 2D drawings can take a while to open.
Broardband speed does effect the overall performance of onshape (time to open parts). However i've used onshape with a 8Mbps line and it's worked fine. However i would recommend at least 20Mbps for general usage and more for larger assemblies.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape allows our design department to use a collabrative design approach. We can shere data instantly between users , allowing for a faster project development.
Onshape vs solidworks
What do you like best about the product?
Sketching and 3d parts
Easy to take in hand

What do you dislike about the product?
Assembly constraint not realy usefull
2d module wasn't has good as soludworks when working with beam

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Online was for me the key point for using Onshape.
Absolutely brilliant CAD system that is much easier to use than expected.
What do you like best about the product?
Can be used on almost any hardware.
There is nothing that I have not been able to model in Onshape since i started using it in 2016.
It is really intuitive.

What do you dislike about the product?
There should be a setting to make the "name of a part that is seen in an assembly" default to the "name of the part" and not "part1"
It should prevent duplicate names in a document.
It should prevent duplicate names in a document.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows robust control of your product which prevents problems at the build phase
The simplest and smoothest CAD solution for us
What do you like best about the product?
No bulky local installation and no special workstations required
Integrated parts management, which was previously only possible with complicated PDM systems
Mature versioning and branching
Sophisticated configuration functionality for all possible scenarios and features
The ability to model all related parts within a single part studio - thus safe dimensional changes based on a few basic sketches
Simple sharing of designs and intermediate statuses within the team
Integrated rendering capability (albeit somewhat cryptic compared to specialized external apps, but still useful for quick presentations)
Very simple and well thought-out module for creating drawings
Overall, straight forward work with a fun factor and quick results and successes
Good community that actively participates in development in the form of programmed feature scripts for special cases (welding, cable routing, etc.) that can be loaded into the project
Monthly reports on new features and improvements (what's new after login)
I just love it, Onshape makes me addicted!

What do you dislike about the product?
Still no possibility to place small labels, logos or simple textures on partial surfaces within an assembly (such as stickers in Solidworks). If you want to see something like this, you either have to use the Render Studio or imprint the labeling correctly into the geometry...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prompt development of prototypes
Safe handling of subsequent modifications and versions
Creating info drawings for our webshop customers

Is cost effective, but lacks features I like
What do you like best about the product?
The biggest upside is that you can run on a browser and that makes hardware requirements a lot better.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downsides are that as a trained SolidWorks user a lot of things I find hard to find and some stuff just feels less powerful. I didn't use it long enough, so maybe the features were there, but they were really hard to find.
Also I think SolidWorks makes the 2D drawings much more flexible and simple, the toolbox is more complete and the multiple configuration in solidworks makes the drawings way more reusable.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used to design and build things for the company
A all platform CAD tool
What do you like best about the product?
I can use Onshape every where
Customer support is excellent

What do you dislike about the product?
Assembly that is a nightmare
Miss 3d sketch
Miss automatic calculation of ix and wx of a geometry of model.
A good frame building mode

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not be dependent on local storage
Onshape performance
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape configuration tool is the most powerful tool I ever saw and used. Onshape interface is user friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Improvement needed in release management. Bulk release of configuration and use in top level assembly. Lite users like production and sales can configure the model and update the drawing on their on without a full user license.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to struggle a lot with SW configuration, which takes a ample time to open a single file due to vast configiration list as our product are modular. But with Onshape we successful oversome that issue.
Onshape is a game changer for start-up engineering businesses
What do you like best about the product?
Often if you've used one CAD system, you've used them all but Onshape in a way changes that in a positive way. With the change in how data is managed makes it feels like there is more control of information while maintaining all the classic features of a CAD system any engineer would expect, it makes the software incredibly user friendly. The customer service and consistent improvement is invaluable and rarely seen with any other CAD offering.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has difficulty handling large assemblies which is the main reason I could see a business moving away from it as a solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a start-up we didn't and don't have the funds to spend on expensive CAD software so it's allowing us to fully function as an engineering team. We don't have the space for servers and the cloud based platform really solves that problem (and is considerably better than other offerings on the market).
The Best Conceptualizing Platform
What do you like best about the product?
Designing on the fly in assemblies by editing in context is great and the aggressive versioning system really keeps things right without getting in the way.
* The real time collision detection is great.
* Being able to measure other parts in assemblies when editing in context speeds the process up hugely.
* Never needing to worry about backups and saving is a great release!
* The render package is nothing short of amazing.
* Adding comments to parts is great.

What do you dislike about the product?
* There is no native dark mode. I find the white workspace background very tiring when working on concepts. I have added a dark mode app to Chrome for now...but it's not great but is saving my eyes.
* The default of loading the 3D Way on start up is annoying to me.
* I can't find a way to create a new part when in an assembly.
* The datum planes not visible in assemblies?
* I changed to a wide screen monitor quite early on and circles were on screen as ovals. I was working on a part that had both so this caused huge confusion. This turned out to be a monitor setting and nothing to do with onshape...it did burn a load of time though.
* Why are threads on standard parts and threads created on surfaces not visible as helical cuts? I have added a third party add on to give me this.
* The simulation add on has left me baffled...but I will take training on this in the near future.

The ease of conceptualizing speed of design progress and agressive versioning keeps everything on track.

What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly at the moment I did not run in any problems using Onshape.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working with 3D printers, I often have to modify cad files in a Design for additive manufacturing logic. For this aim Onshape rapresent the perfect solutions.
