Mimecast Email Security
What do you like best about the product?
We use almost every Mimecast email security product. Attachment scanning, URL scanning, Sandboxing of files, and Archiving. They all work fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their phone support is good. Their email support is very lacking. Very slow response times and unhelpful answers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Mimecast for email protection and archiving. It blocks just under 500,000 emails a month for us. Mimecast scans emailed URL's, sandboxes all file attachments, blocks all spoofed emails for internal addresses, and much more. It is worth the investment to protect end users from themselves.
Instant Email Security and Filtering
What do you like best about the product?
The Mimecast Secure Email Gateway provided an instant solution to the email security and content filtering solutions we were facing. We now have the ability to make granular changes to our email delivery environment and filter unwanted emails from our system. We also rest at ease knowing that all of our emails is now filtered for both unwanted emails as well as attachment and URL filtering to prevent cybersecurity issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Web UI interface leaves a little to be desired. There is definitely a learning curve to learn how the interface operates as it relates to the multiple layers of protection the solution offers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Mimecast Secure Email Gateway protects our email environment from spam, phishing, and multiple kinds of malicious content.
Mimecast does well for blocking spam.
What do you like best about the product?
The spam capabilities and how it cuts down on spam
What do you dislike about the product?
You have to now get an authentication code everytime you log into the admin console.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
spam amount
Mimecast Secure Email Gateway Just Works
What do you like best about the product?
Policy implementation is easy and it just works.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lookup for policy definitions is not always intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Edge filtering, email security. We have quantitative data on threats prevented by Mimecast, management loves to see big numbers.

What do you like best about the product?
First off the UI is clean and intuitive, we were an Office 365 Exchange in the cloud shop, navigating their security and mail flow portal was brutal. Secondly, Office 365 spam and malware blocking can't hold a stick to Mimecast's out of the box rules, which can be tweaked to fit most any use case you can think of. In our first week of implementation, we discovered hundreds of malware files that Office 365 was just letting through.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have had some difficulty getting an impersonation rule configured to needs but I believe mostly it was more of a learning curve to figure out how Mimecast uses regex to parse an email which seems to be slightly none standard. With a decent amount of trial and error, I believe we are satisfied with the result and it has already proved to be more efficient than the rules we had set up in Office 365.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the biggest problems most companies/organizations face when it comes to email security is, Phishing attacks and Mimecast has proven that when it's done right it makes your life a whole lot easier. We have also found a huge side benefit/issue we didn't know we had, with Office 365 a users account can be repeatedly attacked using SMTP in a brute force attack with little to no knowledge on the company/organization knowing, these compromised accounts would then, in our case, be used to send massive amounts of spam/phishing emails from our users accounts. The Mimecast Soc has helped up detect and remediate tons of accounts with the for w=few days of implementation and continues to find more every week.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't pay more for the same features.
Mimecast is a solid and effective email security product
What do you like best about the product?
URL protection is quite good. Ability to retroactively block a malicious URL saves a lot of headaches with regards to phishing scams. While it doesn't always automatically correctly block malicious links, the ability to manually add it and instantly ensure no one else is able to hit the site is invaluable. URL protection registration ensures you know who actually clicked the link as opposed to who received the email for followup and remediation.
Ability for users to interact with their hold queue via multiple methods (mobile app, Outlook plugin, web console, scheduled emailed summary digests)
Web scale
Flexible licensing true-up model
Simple DKIM implementation for outbound mail
Azure AD synchronization/authentication
Auto-whitelist for basic SPAM checks based on outbound email messages (if you email an address, the reply bypasses basic checks reducing chance for false-positives)
Auto-generated detailed weekly and monthly statistical reporting

What do you dislike about the product?
The administration console menu structure is unintuitive. Have to constantly dig to find the correct page and there are often multiple pages that can show similar information.
Drilling down on log entries is sometimes a manual copy/paste search exercise instead of one click (eg, directly jumping to the source email message for a clicked URL)
They do a poor job of monitoring their outbound IPs for RBLs. We often have to open a support case to request our tenant outbound IP range be changed as our outbound mail is being blocked by the recipient. That being said, we haven't had to do this in a while so they're either getting better at proactively managing this or are simply appearing on fewer RBLs.
Antivirus engine does a poor job of catching MS Office vulnerabilities, leaving it up to our O365 backend to catch
Had a month this fall that had a handful of days with significant email delivery delays up into the hours but that seems to be resolved and it was the first issues of the sort since migrating two years ago

Mimecast E-Mail Gateway Review
What do you like best about the product?
Solid platform, good feature-rich, decent support
What do you dislike about the product?
Much too much downtime - they should have this side solid by now
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
E-Mail, malicious URL scanning
Overall Great Service, Implementation Can Take Time
What do you like best about the product?
Mimecast as an email filter is great. It stops stuff, plain and simple, much more than 365. And while the UI is a little cumbersome, they are improving it all the time.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have implemented several of their products, and I will say that availability of implementers is an issue. Every engagement has taken a lot longer than expected. And of course you always have the difference in the 'sales promise' and the 'actual delivery', but that's common for this arena.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phishing is way down, many less incidents, overall improvement of security posture.
Game-changer with today's security threats
What do you like best about the product?
Thorough and strict filtering of undesirable email
Sandbox for attachments
Vetting of URL links before opening
Very granular in its controls

What do you dislike about the product?
The personal portal could be more user-friendly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Given that a majority of threats come in via email, Mimecast has helped us take a significant step forward in building a better security posture. Many bad emails simply don't get to us (BEST spam filter I have seen in 20 years), and for the ones that do, all attachments and website links are checked. Game-changer!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Buy it!
Flexible and powerful
What do you like best about the product?
Support has helped us tweak the settings based on what we're seeing in the console. Excellent history report shows everything, or you can filter very easily. Unfiltered you can see blocked (and why), quarantined, accepted...everything. If you don't see it, that email did not get to you, and in our experience it has been a Sender issue every time.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does require us to do some of the lifting and I have discovered there was a lot I didn't know about fighting spam. I turned on one block setting and started blocking emails I didn't want to block.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When we initially setup the software we were getting tons of false-positives but this subsided after several weeks of use after which time I assume the system started to pickup on the types of emails that we consider legit.
