Db2 is well known for reliability and scalability give it a go...

  • June 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Db2 is well known for reliability and scalability, and solid database solution for all your business needs including Data Lake, Operational Database, Data Warehouse, and Fast Data.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is quite a steep learning curve to using and deploying IBM Db2 so some investment in skills and training could be essential to maximise the product and deliver the correct solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The product can give Improved data availability, extended processing capacity, configuration flexibility and higher transaction rates when compared to other similar database products.

A stable solution that needs to improve documentation and scale computing

  • June 16, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What needs improvement?

The tool is not easy to use. It needs to improve scale computing so that the tool can be scaled vertically. The product needs to enhance pre-engine optimization and it needs to be more efficient in completing queries. The documentation should be updated to include different scenarios of deployment.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product since 2015.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool doesn't work as a distributed database based on customer needs.

How are customer service and support?

The tool's support team is hard to reach.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have also worked with Microsoft SQL server. This product is easy to use. It is also smarter in optimizing the queries. Microsoft SQL serves is also easy to maintain on the operations side when compared to IBM Db2.

How was the initial setup?

The tool's time length for deployment depends on the design and can take around two days to three weeks to complete.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the product to medium enterprises. I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

High performing database system

  • May 26, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
When I work with a DBA and they help me to setup indexes on large data sets, the performance improvement is jaw dropping. I love how performant DB2 is. Actually, it was the first database I used for my career, and anytime I need to use other databases, I am shocked to see their lacking performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface from 2010 has now been decommissioned, it was truly an ugly user interface, but it was effective for getting things done if you don't know the complete set of commands.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Provides the backbone of a high-performant service-oriented architecture. We need the system to handle as many transactions per second as possible, and we are able to get thousands per second. Thats for read and commit! Truly amazing performance.

A robust and secure database

  • May 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have been using Db2 for years. It has severed us well and the more recent versions have enabled us to do a lot more. We have used this is have better insight on our business and make accurate predictions when paired with other products.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main issue with IBM Db2 is it is harder to find good analysts and admins. We have had issues keeping our workers like everyone else and have issues finding them as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This database has been used as the backend on many of our production systems. It is efficient, user friendly, and very secure too. It is now being used in conjuction with a cloud database as well.

It is a stable solution. I rate its stability nine out of ten.

Presently, we have 200 solution users in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support team is good.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup is straightforward. The deployment process involves requesting access to different test environments and productions. It takes a couple of hours to complete.

What about the implementation team?

An affordable and stable solution to audit databases

  • May 16, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use the product to audit databases, SQL statements, and user activities. I am currently working on migrating the on-premise database to IBM Docker.

What is most valuable?

The solution helps secure the database. We can encrypt the data and mask the tables using the solution.

What needs improvement?

When we enable audits on our database, there is a server overload. The product needs to improve its configuration and storage.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable. I rate the tool's stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the product’s scalability an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The support team didn’t give me a quick response to the issue I raised.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is complex. Since the database has various types of data, we must integrate it with the audit server. An expert in Linux can easily manage the integration.

What about the implementation team?

It takes three to four days to deploy the solution. We needed help from IBM to implement the solution. We need only one person to maintain the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution costs less than other products. I rate the pricing an eight out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

Guardium can be used in confidential environments. There are many customization options available in Guardium. We purchased the solution in 2018. I will recommend the product for auditing. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

DB2 is a reliable database

  • May 11, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about DB2 is knowing that I've been using a database for over 20 years that is 100% supported and I'll be able to read the same data in 20 years without having to worry about changing technologies
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a database that has few DBA specialists but that can be solved by training them. It could also have more data migration tools from other database vendors to DB2.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My main use is for storing business rules and for storing data for risk management. These are environments with databases that are more than 20 years old, backed up, do not consume a lot of resources and serve many users.

Beneficial auto-tuning, helpful support, but field updating could improve

  • May 04, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The solution is running on top of IBM I proprietary hardware/software. It shows great stability. DB2 has improved the way our organization functions because we do not have to tune it. There is an autotuning function integrated into the OS, which is useful. On other databases, there is a need to do tunning from time to time.

How has it helped my organization?

Has a very good RDBMS with high throughput, customizable security features, and a reasonable licensing price.

What is most valuable?

The solution has many beneficial features, such as security, support, and stability.

What needs improvement?

IBM Db2 Database is not ACID compliant, which would improve it. Db2 lacks Isolation, so when two people are trying to update the same field at the same time it can become stuck. Other newer databases do not have this issue, such as Microsoft SQL, Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, and SAP HANA.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using IBM Db2 Database for approximately thirteen years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We did not have the need to scale the solution.

We are using the solution on a daily basis.

How are customer service and support?

We have a good SLA contract with the vendor for support.

I rate the support from the IBM Db2 Database a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I rate the initial setup of the IBM Db2 Database a seven out of ten.

The deployment of the database took one day and the application took some time because of the testing and integration.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the price of the IBM Db2 Database an eight out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

If someone is looking for a robust database with a reasonable price and security measures IBM Db2 Database is a good choice.

I rate IBM Db2 Database a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

IBM DB2 - a great database

  • April 25, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I has a great User interface. I can find what is going on a database just from few commands. It is easily manageable and one can easily diagnose the performance issues
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing which i dislike about the product. but sometimes i feel customer support should have been better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
earlier we were using mysql, which is having few limitations then we switched to IBM DB2 which is having vast features and it supports our application which just make it increadible as our application is very senstive. Cost wise we have saved a lot.
