A powerful PR tool
What do you like best about the product?
I love the Outreach tool that allows me to contact media directly in the program and track who read, skimmed or ignored my messages. This allows me to adequately follow with specific people. Another great feature is the reporting capabilities Meltwater has.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is probably the priciest of the tools, and every add-on is thousands of dollars. Sometimes, in the implementation and set up phase, the tool might get a little confusing, but there was someone I could contact every step of the way. If you don't know how to use Boolean search commands, you'll have to get acquainted with it so you can execute searches the right way, because the keyword search doesn't work as it should sometimes and needs manual tweaking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring our own brand, as well as our competitors, on social media and the news. We realized we could use it to see who is talking about our competitors and what our competitors are promoting on the wire, so then we can try to launch a similar campaign, or a follow-up story idea to capitalize on the momentum.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have the budget for Meltwater, go for it. Yes, it is very expensive, but it is worth it. If you have any questions, you can always contact your success specialist (your account manager) and he/she will help you optimize your account and utilize the tool to the full extent, so you get your money's worth.
Good reporting, lacks impact in Canada
What do you like best about the product?
Reporting has its benefits for press monitoring let's you provide detailed reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
The press pitch module lacks Canadian contacts and also misses searching Canadian national newspapers, like Globe and Mail.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Was not picking up all our mentions, google alerts did better. Benefits were for reports compiling that saved time.
Great tool to monitor your brand
What do you like best about the product?
Great tool to monitor your brand on internet (media, social media, etc). Once configuration is done you don't have anything more to do. Especially useful for social media (when you're not tagges) and for web media (as you can monitor also your products name even if your company is not mentionned).
What do you dislike about the product?
At the beginning some sources were not considered by Meltwater and we had to enter the articles manually. But after mentionning it to our account manager it has been quickly resolved by adding the sites.
Another negative point is that there is no API (we wanted to connect the tool with our global marketing report but no API seems to exist for now).

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Great time saver for monitoring. Same for reporting thanks to the PR reports we make with the platform. Make a great analysis of our positionning (number of articles, reach, positionning again competitors, etc)
Meltwater is easy to use to send out releases and provides good use data.
What do you like best about the product?
Sending out releases is easy once I develop the list or reporters for a particular topic. I also like the rapid feedback on who is opening the email, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
The beats listed for reporters don't always align with what I am looking for, so I don't find some reporters I need to include on my lists.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem is easy distribution of information. The benefit is getting a sense of what kind of information attracts engagement and what doesn't. I don;t want to clutter reporters' inboxes with material they don't want.

Be careful about how you identify beats.

Comprehensive media monitoring and large reporter database.
What do you dislike about the product?
Building and designing news releases could be more intuitive and simpler.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sending news releases, and automated daily news clips services. Streamlined services into one vendor, cut staff time to produce clips.
Valuable Platform; Fabulous Customer Service
What do you like best about the product?
The influencer database. The almost 24-7 customer service from our rep Andie --- FABULOUS!!!! Give her a raise! She always available when I've contacted her and always willing and able to help in any way I need. That's unseen in today's world. The media monitoring service is also terrific.
What do you dislike about the product?
The intense sales push. Ours wasn't too bad, but when I have tried to "sell" your fabulous customer service and wonderful platform and media monitoring service to colleagues, they UNIVERSALLY SAY, they can't handle the extremely pushy sales people and can't get beyond them to even learn about the amenities of the program.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No problems. Benefits are listed above....all fabulous.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get beyond the intensity of the sales people who are relentless and won't listen very well. The platform is fabulous and you'll never find this kind of customer service from any competitor that we've experienced.

What do you like best about the product?
Terrific customer service. Regular follow-up on newly created searches, and regular suggestions for relevant searches and products.
What do you dislike about the product?
Takes some work in getting proper searches, finding the balance between too much information and not enough.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows me to pinpoint issues of relevance to our clients that intersect with the work we do. I then follow-up with the client with a service offering, or just have a conversation.

Define your requirements very specifically. The support team is excellent.
Great media monitoring tool
What do you like best about the product?
The media monitoring capabilities and keyword searches enable us to keep tabs on industry news and competitor coverage, as well as tracking our own media mentions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Semi-frequent technical issues/error messages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the problem of how to stay educated and informed on the media landscape in our industry. We have also realized some media coverage through the outreach tool.

What do you like best about the product?
It's a great tool to consolidate tons of PR data into one spot without wasting time on a typical search engine.
What do you dislike about the product?
You have to do a lot of legwork in a search to make it work for you in a helpful way.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The newsletter design process is a little clunky. We've realized the daily alert system is a helpful way to start our day, though!
Positive experiences working with Meltwater on media issues
What do you like best about the product?
I like its ability to find the right news articles for our newsletter and the responsiveness to our feedback. I also enjoy when they check in to ensure we are satisfied with their service.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally slow to respond to questions, but not frequently enough to raise concerns. I would like to be able to download the dashboard data into excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to solve what opinion pieces we have put into the daily newsletter, and the benefits of being able to see the impact of the work we do within the news cycles.
