Has assisted our customers in deploying safely, thereby reducing both risk and hassle

  • May 12, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are a Veracode reseller and we utilize their solution for software vulnerability analysis. Our primary objective is to identify any security issues in open-source libraries that have been rejected. Additionally, we perform dynamic code scanning and employ Static Application Security Testing for comprehensive application security testing.

How has it helped my organization?

Veracode prevents 100 percent of vulnerable code from entering production.

Veracode has assisted our customers in deploying safely, thereby reducing both risk and hassle. Additionally, the solution has aided in reducing the costs associated with problem resolution. We noticed the benefits within the first day of using Veracode.

Veracode's policy reporting for ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations is excellent. We only need to specify the regulation we must comply with, and the report will be generated instantly.

Veracode provides visibility into the status of applications at every phase of development. It is one comprehensive integrated system, but we can also utilize specific features like SAST if we require it.

In the absence of Veracode, the security team typically informs the developers about the policies that must be adhered to, and they enhance the code in a manner that ensures compliance. However, when Veracode is utilized, this step becomes unnecessary. Each individual focuses on their respective strengths, allowing for seamless collaboration.

We have compared Veracode with other solutions, and its false positive rate is the lowest in the industry.

Veracode's low false positive rate is key to our ability to avoid being burdened by false alerts and focus on fixing code.

Veracode's false positive rate of the static analysis has helped save us time.

Veracode helps fix flaws. Our customers have reported that it is faster and more compliant, making it easier for them to send out reports to various stakeholders when they have questions. For example, when dealing with higher-level management, we can create a report containing comprehensive statistics and informative pie charts, which greatly assists them. Additionally, this helps demonstrate the value of Veracode during internal assessments.

Veracode helps our developers save time.

Veracode helps improve our security posture as it ensures compliance and simplifies the process.

Veracode helps our developers save costs.

What is most valuable?

Static code scanning is the most valuable feature. Moreover, Veracode integrates with various frameworks and workflow solutions.

What needs improvement?

Veracode has the capability to identify flaws in the code. I would like Veracode to also have the ability to fix these flaws in a future release.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veracode for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veracode is an exceptionally stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can scale Veracode from one to thousands of applications within a minute.

Veracode is used by some of our customers for individual applications, as well as by others for thousands of applications.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is great.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In addition to previously using SonarQube, we also employed several other solutions before transitioning to Veracode due to its superior reporting capabilities.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The deployment time depends on the size of the built solution. If we consider a relatively modest number of apps, I would say that they can be up and running within a day or two. We first completed a good analysis of what our customer wanted and because Veracode is a cloud solution, we can have a code scan running within minutes. It is easy to integrate other frameworks and work with applications that are already integrated with Veracode. One product owner or software developer can handle the deployment.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed in-house.

What was our ROI?

With Veracode, the benefits are clear, and we can see a return on investment through the visibility it offers. This enables us to fix flaws sooner, thereby reducing the time to market for our customers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veracode provides value for the cost, with no additional charges apart from the standard licensing fee.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Veracode a perfect ten out of ten because it consistently delivers on its promises.

Those who are concerned about Veracode's price should be aware that the solution holds value. Additionally, they should consider that other solutions are on-premises and require additional fees for reporting traffic processed, unlike Veracode.

The maintenance is all taken care of by Veracode.

Veracode is so straightforward that I have no advice to offer to anyone.

There are many companies out there that do not consider code security when thinking about cybersecurity risks. This holds true even for larger companies, where it is still a greenfield situation.

It's easy to integrate with various cloud platforms and tools

  • May 11, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Veracode to scan our code before release. The scan ensures our projects will have no issues. We only use Veracode for customer-facing and revenue-generating web applications.

How has it helped my organization?

Application security is paramount. It's essential to check any extended web applications we are using. Veracode enables us to check integrated segments that are based on other websites. We can also perform a light scan on some of the smaller customer-facing web applications.

Veracode provides visibility into application status, but we do not use it during every development phase. We only use Veracode before the code goes into production. It improves our DevSecOps. We use an agile process, so we have less time to fix issues when we discover vulnerabilities. Veracode helps us fix many critical issues but only if it is compatible with all the technologies.

It helps if the products you use are from preferred vendors like Salesforce. If your tools are incompatible, you might get some false positives. You can still use products that aren't from preferred vendors, but if you use tools like Salesforce, etc., it will automatically recognize and ignore these issues. It cuts down on the time we spend investigating.

The overall false positive rate is good. It is about 70-80 percent accurate. In some stages, we have to let issues go and defer the fix until another time. We might wait to release a patch later.

Veracode adds value when we run it in an integrated environment where all the core systems are similar to our production environment. It adds value to the developers in the final stages of testing or the QA environment. We can use it for functional or system testing. That is where it adds value for the developers by enabling them to fix many of the issues. Nothing flows into the queue box. We can say it has been effective if it's up to 70 percent, but if we consider the environmental constraints, it's around 30 to 40 percent.

It adds daily value by improving the security posture of our customer-facing web applications. A developer could make a mistake not caught in the QA process.

What is most valuable?

I like Veracode's ease of integration with various cloud platforms and tools.

What needs improvement?

I'm also a cybersecurity expert. In addition to vulnerabilities, I am looking at this from a holistic cybersecurity perspective. Bringing Veracode in line with the latest vulnerabilities would add value. We see APT issues often, and some processes could be left vulnerable if our tool cannot cope with them. It would improve Veracode to bring it up to date with current threats that the cybersecurity industry highlights.

I would also like Veracode to offer training and certifications that users can do on their own time. It would encourage people to build skills that they could reuse across the board. Many other software publishers offer this. It helps build a user base and generate interest. Training is an excellent way to market your product. It would also be helpful to build a user community online to create a knowledge base of expert users who can answer questions and advise Veracode on ways to improve the product.

For how long have I used the solution?

We been using Veracode for five or six years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

SonarQube is another solution we've used. SonarQube has some limitations, and we feel like it isn't keeping pace with the technology landscape. We had to reconsider our tool, which led us to adopt Veracode.

How was the initial setup?

We had some challenges initially, but I think that was due to a lack of training. After deployment, Veracode doesn't require much maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veracode's price is reasonable because of the value it offers. If you don't catch bad code before it goes into production, you have to spend money to rework it, and a security failure in your product can cost your company. We think it's worth what we pay.

It would be nice if Veracode were bundled with some preferred vendors like Salesforce and offered at a discount.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veracode a nine out of ten.

Offers dynamic scanning, static scanning, and software composition analysis

  • May 08, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use Veracode for product testing.

We exclusively utilize Veracode for a product used in our consulting services, which we provide on a licensing basis.

We deploy Veracode in the cloud and can utilize any cloud provider, including Google Cloud, Azure, and AWS.

How has it helped my organization?

Veracode's ability to prevent vulnerable code from entering production is both effective and thorough.

The SBOM feature is straightforward, making it easy to create reports. The SBOM feature is crucial to our organization because we can utilize the report to effectively present a product to customers, demonstrating its viability and security.

Veracode has helped us improve our secure coding practices, which, in turn, has boosted our confidence in selling our products.

We were able to experience all of Veracode's benefits for our organization within the first year.

Veracode helps to provide visibility into the application's status at every phase of development. This helps us ensure that our code is secure from the start, saving us time that would otherwise be spent sorting through bugs at the end.

Veracode's false positives are beneficial for our developers as they assist in organizing and understanding the implications of these false positives.

Veracode has helped our organization address flaws by identifying our mistakes. The initial usage of the solution was challenging due to the large number of code lines that needed to be read, but it became easier over time.

What is most valuable?

I find all the features valuable, especially dynamic scanning, static scanning, and software composition analysis.

What needs improvement?

When we engaged Veracode to conduct the manual penetration testing, they were extremely slow in completing the task and delivering the report, causing a delay of two to three weeks for us. The duration of the manual penetration testing process needs to be improved.

The cost of the solution can be reduced.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veracode for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veracode is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veracode is scalable. Veracode is used by around four people in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support response time is slow.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. Veracode is a virtual platform, so all we need to do is upload the code, and it will be ready to use. The deployment was carried out by one of our senior product managers.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veracode's pricing is on the higher end, but it is acceptable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated multiple solutions, including BlackBox, three years ago. However, Veracode was the only solution that had all the features and also had a proper certification system in place. The other solutions did not provide a comprehensive suite. For instance, they offered static scanning but lacked dynamic scanning, whereas Veracode provided both, along with a training module.

What other advice do I have?

I give Veracode an eight out of ten. The solution is comprehensive, albeit a bit costly.

We have not observed any impact on our policy reporting and compliance with industry standards and regulations since we started using Veracode.

The false positive rate is slightly high, but we are able to manage it. The false positive rate of the static analysis has not affected the time we spend on the tuning process.

Veracode has not affected our developers' time significantly, as the response rates for certain tasks have been slightly slower.

I recommend conducting a cost analysis and rate of return evaluation to determine whether the solution is worthwhile. I highly recommend using Veracode for complex products, but it may not be as valuable for simpler ones.

Veracode does not require any maintenance.

I have learned that it is necessary to plan our strategy for the product and security prior to using Veracode.

Code Scanning over Veracode

  • March 31, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's a tool to make a static code scan and detect the exposed secrets or passwords before the application is released. We can create multiple sandboxes and run various parts of the code individually. Veracode can be easily integrated with CI/CD pipelines, making it easy to trigger the scan.
What do you dislike about the product?
Any meditation of false positive flaws is not straightforward or internal to the team. There is always dependency on the Veracode admin team to mitigate the flows, interrupting the overall workflow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Veracode for static code scanning to identify the vulnerabilities.
It helps us identify the same and fix the code as per the action plan.
We even conduct secure code review end to end for better code processing.

Does good analysis and increases our security level, but needs to be improved from the usability and pricing perspective

  • May 12, 2022
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use it for code analysis to see if there are any vulnerabilities in the code. I'm heading a startup for this, and I have a development team of about 14 people. They upload the codebase to Veracode, run an analysis, and take the results. If there are any vulnerabilities, they fix them.

How has it helped my organization?

It reduces security vulnerabilities and increases our security level. It has been helpful in reducing our security debt.

Having a centralized view for our developers and security professionals is very important. If there is anything in the cloud or infrastructure, we need to know proactively. Otherwise, we wouldn't know when there is a security compromise. So, we have to be prepared so that if something happens, we know where to go and stop it. It is not always about fixing and making your code zero percent vulnerable. That doesn't happen generally, but you need to know the areas where something can go wrong. If those areas are your critical systems or critical data security parts, you can act accordingly and quickly.

The centralized view has improved the visibility into the status of our application code. This visibility is very important because we need to know the condition or status of our codebase.

Scanning with the solution has increased our fix rate, but I don't have the metrics. It has also helped to increase the productivity of our security and development teams.

What is most valuable?

It is a good product for creating secure software. The static code analysis is pretty good and useful. The mitigation recommendations provided by the scanning engine are also pretty good.

What needs improvement?

From the usability perspective, it is not up to date with the latest trends. It looks very old. Tools such as Datadog, New Relic, or infrastructure security tools, such as AWS Cloud, seem very user-friendly. They are completely web-based, and you can navigate through them pretty quickly, whereas Veracode is very rigid. It is like an old-school enterprise application. It does the job, but they need to invest a little more on the usability front.

From the pricing perspective, it is not very convenient for startup organizations. They should have options to onboard it for the startup ecosystem quickly and affordably.

There should also be strengthening of the developer community.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for almost a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I didn't find any errors. It is available and stable. I didn't have any issues with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Its flexibility is very less. It is a very rigid application. Currently, we have six users of this solution in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

I interacted with them once. They were very good. They were very friendly and supportive. I would rate them a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't use a different solution previously. The company started just a year ago.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For enterprises, Veracode has done a fairly good job, but its pricing is not suitable for startups. The microservice distributed architecture for a startup is very small. I had to do a lot of discussions on the pricing initially. I previously worked in an enterprise organization where I used Veracode, and that's how I got to know about Veracode, but that was a big organization with more than a thousand employees. So, the cost is very different for them because the size of the application is different. Its pricing makes sense there, but when we try to onboard this solution for the startup ecosystem, pricing is not friendly. Because I knew the product and I knew its value, I onboarded it, but I don't think any other startup at our scale will onboard it.

Its pricing should be based on the size of the application or organization. For a startup organization, they can provide credit-based pricing. They don't need to reduce the price. AWS, Google, and other vendors do the same where they don't reduce the price, but they give credits. I have been in the industry for 15 years, and I have seen that people don't like to change technologies for many reasons. For the first year or the first 18 months, customers can explore the product completely free. If the first year is free and you are onboarded, you would stay with it if it does the job. If the product is doing its job and adding security value, there is no reason to change it in the second year, and you are also ready to pay because, in the first year, you have tested that it is working fine. A company that has used it for the first year would definitely need it in the second year because they keep adding code to the codebase. Another option is that, like Cloudflare, they provide a very slashed rate. Cloudflare onboards everyone at a very cheap price, but when you start exploring the actual use cases, they start adding.

What other advice do I have?

It is a good product, and you should consider it, but it can be elevated more for startup culture. It should be more pricing-friendly and user-friendly. There should also be strengthening of the developer community.

We are only doing code analysis with it. For manual penetration testing, we have to contact an entity.

It hasn't reduced our scan time. It also hasn't helped our organization with certification and audits. We're a small startup, and at this time, we don't have audits, etc. We might do that later.

I would rate this product a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

    Hospital & Health Care

A must-have tool for your security arsenal.

  • October 18, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Over the years, Veracode has made the tools much faster and more thorough. Their Support group is very good, too. It's great to be able to schedule a consultation, and most of their consultants have been fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
On the static scan, sometimes a flaw is detected during one scan, not detected during the next, and subsequently detected on a third. The inconsistency makes it hard to track. Also, they do not make it easy to mitigate flaws other than those for a static scan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The platform helps identify any security flaws you have in your code. Also keeps developers on their toes with regard to making sure they don't introduce any *new* flaws.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've been very pleased with the Veracode Application Security Platform. It's very easy to use, it's quick, and their support if very good. I highly recommend checking it out.
